We are going to make mistakes.

If being flawless were a prerequisite for progress - no-one would have accomplished anything ever.

Just get of the horse, wyl. You are embarrassing yourself.

No i am not...I am not talking about buying the wrong pens here.

The club completely embarrassed itself over the last 7 years because of making dumb and bad mistakes

I am tired of supporters like you making excuses rp when you have been through it all.

I expect more.

You are an outrage [censored]. You just want to be the bloke that is THE MOST [censored] off for THE LONGEST amount of time, and have THE HIGHEST expectations over and above the high expectations we all have.

I have tracked our terrible drafting in thread after thread dating back to 1999. It is the major reason we are in this mire - we look to be making better choices and it has to continue but mistakes will be made, we have had our share so hopefully we can get on a bit of a run but we are going to miss with a few just like any club would and have.

Roos' track record for making the right calls maybe >>>>>>>> yours?

I'm not claiming any expertise -as I said in the post, what is the case for this course. It is not intended as a criticism in any way, simply looking for clarification from the supreme experts on Demonland!

One has a laser boot the other doesn't. One loves the defensive stuff like tackling the other not so much.

Picking Salem breaks our usual mould of picking someone with iffy disposal and defensive skills.

Thanks Robbie. Very helpful. I look forward to those long, raking accurate left foot Davey like passes feeding Clark, hogan, Dawes and Howe.

What a sight!

Why? A Good Club gets it right.

Good clubs get it right? Have a look at Hawthorn's first round picks 2002 - 2006, or Sydney 2006 - 2008 - there are some massive fails in there.

You constantly reduce every debate to simplistic catch phrases that at the end of the day are both meaningless and inaccurate.

It's a good point. It's about building a team, not about getting a champ with every pick (as nice as that would be).

I think Roos can build a team, and that means that 30 odd players get an extra couple percent out of themselves. That's very different from the 2007 - 2012 mantra of getting players and the rest will look after itself.

I'm still on the fence as to whether Roos can turn this place around, but he has the knowhow, background and gravitas to give it probably the best shot it has.

i am talking top 10 Picks. No one has come near iur incompetance.

We cannot afford mistakes anymore.

Attitude is the first priority.

We must all push the club hard on this.

It's my view and it will remain.

If my expectations are HIGHER than your then so be it.

No mine are higher.

rpfc: I expect to win 8 games.

wyl: Well I expect to make finals.

rpfc: [scoff] I expect a top 4 finish next year.

wyl: That's nothing! I expect to see Roos during GF parade!

rpfc: Expecting a loss then hey!? I expect to see Roos at Melbourne Park after the game with the cup!

wyl: Looking small?! I expect to see Roos at the Oscars with the cup running his impressive naked rig up and down the aisles!

rpfc: I could think bigger with my head in a thimble! Roos WINS an Oscar FOR running his impressive naked rig up and down the aisles and then wards off an invasion from a rogue Asgardian fleet with help from a fire-breathing Jack Watts, an invisible Jesse Hogan, and Jack Trengove whose power seems to be time manangement!

I know this thread is part joke, part "bring back the like button", and part trolling back through our recruiting blunders, but I am very happy with what Viney and Taylor have produced from the draft this year.

But I have been happy with the prospects with previous drafts as well, and I think this is the crux of what needs to be different for the future, we need to make sure our development is spot on. Because I truly can't believe our recruiting has been that bad in the past, I think the club has failed some players with progressing from being an up and comer to an AFL player. How many who won rising star nominations are now on the scrap heap?

Why don't you write a book and purge yourself of the past 10 years, that way you'll get over it, hopefully, and we won't have to suffer it any more either.

We are about to start a new era with a new board, coach, recruiters, CEO, players, chairman and boot studder so get over the past and get in to the future.

Why? A Good Club gets it right.

Regardless of whether we are a larger or smaller club.

We made bad decisions in the past because the club overall was lazy.

This must be over...

But i am sure you will allow those "mistakes"....doesn't mean others should.

i make mistakes in my job i am out...simple.

No they all make mistakes Wyl

Hawks - Dowler & Thorp

Pies - Chris Egan, Rusling

Cats - Kane Tenace

Bombers - Gumbleton

Those are off the top of my head and I am sure there are others they have taken who never made it

As it currently stands we have not made any mistakes this year! None of them have played for us yet!

Exactly! Roos is not about getting a team of champions, rather he is about getting a group of guys together to make a champion team! He has the runs on the board and I am finally confident after many years!

Everyone can have high expectations but they also have to be realistic. The draft system will tell you that many, many mistakes have been made by all clubs. No-one is perfect (except me!).

I think debating whether we should have have picked Nathan Freeman over Christian Salem is missing the point. As Paul Roos said you need to look at this year's draft as a package. The debate should be whether MFC will be better served by the recruiting of Dom Tyson, Christian Salem AND Jayden Hunt over Josh Kelly and Impey/Crouch/Taylor.

Effectively we have traded Pick 2 (Kelly), Pick 20 (there were 3 mids still available in Impey/Crouch/Taylor), and a late pick that GWS didn't use for Tyson, Pick 9 and Pick 57.

When I look at it like this I feel comfortable with our decisions.

Vis a vis our recruiting; what gets barely any air time from the press is our new No.1 J. Hogan.

Last year the criticism was that we had given away a top pick for a player who would not play in 2013. This year our draft selections have been assessed on our "3" draft picks. In fact we have picked up what could easily be classed as a top 2 pick in Hogan as well as Salem et al. This makes for a pretty solid draft period in anyone's terms (if you ask me)

None of this is a major problem mind you; I am happy to be floating under the radar.

I understand the point you're making and I agree with you as far as it goes.

But the main issue is whether we are able to turn Tyson, Salem & Hunt into serious contributors on the field. From now on, it really doesn't matter whether Kelly and Crouch might have been better or not.

We need to focus on making the best out of what we've got. As I'm sure the club is doing already.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
