Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This makes me sad. He never actually played like I hoped he would, but I loved the way he went about things and always hoped he'd put it together and become a star.

I never thought he was going to be a star but I really wanted to see what he could do under Roos. Titan's point about two way running is valid, but I'd still have kept him over Nicholson. Oh well, all the best to him.

Always rated Nev's endeavour and personality, be he consistently seemed to be out of his depth at AFL level.

Nicho's only chance will be as a relentless 'in your face' tagger. His decision making ability, and skills, are not even close to where they need to be. It must've been line ball as to whether he also got delisted this year.

Whilst Roos clearly wants hard bodies who've been in the system for a while, Travis Tuck would excite me more as a player on our list than Nicholson.

Nicho will come good. Elite fitness and speed. PR to help his decision making, find him a niche role and he'll be a decent player.

The only way he gets a game is in our backline, with Nev gone we are light on for small defenders. He shouldn't get a game in our midfield, but would compete with Strauss, Clisby and Terlich for a spot

Correct me if im wrong but Nicho may well still end up delisted.

Depends on draft day doesn't it. If we select three kids in the draft, then upgrade Clisby with the 4th pick our list is full.

If we then decide there is someone we want in the PSD we can still delist Nicho to make room on the list.

To be brutally honest I don't reckon either Nev or Nicho are up to AFL standard or would take our team to the next level. Both have far too many limitations. Good luck to Nev, no one could ever say he didn't have a dip...

With Jetta delisted does that mean we now have zero games of experience with indigenous players on our current list? When was the last time that happened at Melbourne?

The club should not recruit indigenous players for the sake of it, but I suspect we'd be a better balanced team if we had some of the obvious talent available from players with that background.

Hard to say.
The year Nev played the most games in a season was 2009 and I was in Japan at the time.
He seemed like an honest trier but as others have said not up to AFL standard. He would probably kick arse in the VFL/SANFL/WAFL but this probably is one grade above where he is at as a player.
Good luck Nev. You are a Demon now and forever.

I wished we kept Nev. I really hope someone gives him another chance. He has good pace and aggression, he could be a good asset for a team lacking run. All the best for the future Jets...

The first thing Nicholson needs to do is keep his damn hands still when kicking the ball.

Until he fixes his fundamental kicking action flaws he will struggle.

I hope not. I'd prefer that all Demon players removed their non-dominant hand from the ball and controlled it onto the boot with the dominant hand.

The method you describe recalls James Manson, David Cloke and Warrick Capper et al.

You are really gonna hate watching young Jesse then, I assume during a game you have an Isocam on Nicho, I find his kicking is a lot better at Casey, he is like a lot of our younger/inexperienced players, he needs a consistent run in the AFL to get used to the pressure, I don't think it is his kicking action more the choice of where to kick it, the pressure does that.......

It's a fair point. Has implications for the push into the NT as well.

Neville Jetta will keep training @melbournefc through this exchange period

Sounds like he is a chance for our rookie list.

Was just about to post that I clearly saw him in the theatre for the AGH presentation in the video on the club website today...

Looks to me like he's trying for a rookie spot, and would have a good chance given the lack of depth in this year's draft class.

I think it's somewhat wasteful to give the spot to a player who we're (I'm) already pretty convinced won't make it. But by the same token, due to the qualities he has, I wouldn't begrudge a player like Jetta the opportunity at one last ditch effort under a competent coach.

Nice to see you are convinced, any rookie spot is speculative, that is what they are there for, knowing Jason Taylor and Kelly O'Donnell, there will probably be a couple of left field in there anyway......can't see Nev being a waste

It depends Nasher, we have 4 rookie spots to fill, we keep hearing how shallow this draft is, does Nev as a rookie give us a little depth particularly in the our small defender department, at this stage we have Grimes, Terlich, Clisby, Strauss and Nicholson, I still think Jetta is a better footballer than Nicholson, Strauss and Grimes are injury prone and the other two are entering their second season. We won't lose out by have Jetta around for another year as a rookie.

I wouldn't have thought I was saying anything particularly controversial there, given that he's been on the list for 5 years and never came close to cementing his place. I'm not being critical, I've already stated in this thread that I like the guy and his attitude for the game, I just don't agree with hanging on to NQRs forever. Spots on the list are valuable - even on the rookie list - and should be treated as such.

I agree somewhat with your opinion/s in this regard. In watching training ( have not missed the opening training in the last 15 years.).Nev just does not have his attitude fully switched on .Knowing his position was on the line, I would ave thought he would have prepared himself for opening day in absolute pristine condition,he wasn't - therefore leaving the room for another.

Does not deserve a rookie position IMO.

Are you sure that we are only eligible for four rookies as I thought that some teams had six? What is it that qualifies/limits teams for a specific number?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
