Hopefully sooner than later Gawn or Spencer replaces Jamar for good but it hasn't happened yet. Clark needs to play 2nd ruck otherwise we're top heavy forward if all of Clark, Dawes, Hogan and a 2nd

Will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

I love listening to him tbh

I'm tipping he'll say "process" a lot and basically paraphrase much of what the presser content was this morning.

Sounds good to me, he did win all australian when he was rucking for Brissie.

For those that say it's dangerous as he's injury prone, well he injured his foot playing forward so obviously injuries can occur anywhere

Another thing he said of interest - the two most important things for us to work on are midfield depth (worked on already, obviously), and two-way running. Two-way running, the ability to get back and forward, is something he said he noticed we sorely lacked this year.

That's a good start! And get the backline coach to work on our kickouts too!

He also said that something that's important to work on throughout the year is getting a stable gameplan in place. He said that, no matter whether Hawthorn or Fremantle or Geelong etc. win or lose, you can identify exactly how they play the game. So for us, he wants our players to be consistently able to play a brand of football weekly, such that you can look at Melbourne, even if we're losing, and see what we're trying to do.

Heard a little bit of Roos on SEN and then straight after on 3AW.

Most interesting thing he said - his plan for Clark is for him to be a second ruckman. He thinks we get a lot better as a club if we have Clark as a ruckman/forward.

Well this answers some questions for me. If all our big men are fit then, at most, only two of Jamar, Gawn, Fitzy and Spencer will get a game.

I couldn't imagine more than one getting a game if we have, say, Gawn rucking, Clark playing fwd/ruck, Dawes and Hogan playing forward.

Just too top-heavy.

Be interested to know what Clark thinks of being a forward/ruck - he seemed really keen for the full forward role when we first recruited him. Perhaps the injuries he sustained playing forward may have changed his mind though. Either way, as long as he is on the park I would be very happy. Just the thought of Clark, Dawes and Hogan starting off a game in the forward line and immediately monstering their opponents with some good old push and shove action is most enticing.

Fitz is also a backup for Dawes I would imagine.

Though I'd like to see Fitzpatrick get more game time, he impressed in the latter part of the year, and at his age, is only going to improve.

I was sure that part of the appeal of Clark coming to the dees is that he would play in the forward line as he didn't like the ruck side if the business.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Initially I would think they would be looking at Hogan as the 3rd tall forward who can play high as well as deep. He has mid pace over 20 and he is athletic as well as a bull. So Dawes and Fitzy as KPF's with Clark rotating through ruck and forward. That is if all are available - we never seem to have that much luck!!!!!!!!!!

That is an insult to Gawn.

FCS, Jamar's output has been VFL standard at best. Roosy for god-sake, don't worry about game plans with Jamar; I just want him to tap the ball and not end up lying on the ground leaving us with a 3 on 4.

Our rucks will sneak forward more under Roos. If Jamar is our no.1 ruck come mid-winter, I'd be very surprised.

As for Clark, over the past 2 years, per game played, he has been the best forward in the comp in relation to quality of delivery. But, I have felt that we were at our best when he pinch-hit in the ruck. He has a presence that Jamar does not have. He gives us a 4 on 4 after the tap.

The other thing Roos will be dead against is "bomb entries" forward; and instead honour the hit-up. Clark isn't that much of a hit-up, if you get my drift.

Remember the stoppage game plan is the basis of Roos' defense. That requires 2 strong rucks. Having 2 of Spencer, Jamar and Gawn is a disaster but having Clark is perfect. Clark could easily be the best 2nd ruck in the comp that's for sure. And Hogan and Dawes cover him forward.

Oh for a super fit Clark! I see him as much a super ruck rover causing mayhem in the centre square a la Roughie, in between rucking stints and periods up forward. A fit Clark can do all three rolls and drive opposition coaches to distraction (well only if the other 21 players are doing something).

I think that was more of an issue for Dawes - his game suffered a lot from being played as fill-in ruckman and never getting a stable run as the forward he so obviously is.

I've always had the impression that Clark was recruited with a 'whole of lifecyle' plan, playing forward until we developed options there (heh, once upon a time that would be while Watts developed there), then moving more to the ruck to support the emergence of Gawn (and whoever else) once Jamar retired.

Jamar's poor year in 2013 kind of messed with the plan, as did the all-round tall-man turkey-shoot that was our injury list. But I think the notion is still valid.
