I blame Carlton.

Had it not been for the infamous Kreuzer Cup game at the end of 2007, we'd have had picks 1 & 2 in that draft, not pick 4 which we ultimately used on Cale Morton.

CM, I can't speak the name shouldn't even be mentioned on this site ever again!!!!!! Good to have a laugh though, eh DA?

Why is everyone saying he was the wrong selection, we overlooked Dangerfield and Rioli etc.. Morton at the time was considered a top 3 pick to the point one recruiter said he was even a number 1 choice.

We were all salivating at the prospect of a tall midfielder who could run all day and hit targets with his pin point passes that was much talked about during the championships. He was a Larke Medalist, All Australian under 18s and we all thought we had a genuine superstar our hands. Heck I remember people on here were comparing him to Adam Goodes and Mathew Pavlich.

His first 2 years was quite good but I just thought Dean Bailey didn't use him properly. Ever since he had that Knee injury against Essendon at Visy Park one pre season match, it all went downhill from there.

This also proves how shonky our development was. I don't think Morton is a bad player infact I could see the talent just needed the right coach with good experience.. That's where we made the mistake of getting Mark Neeld instead of an experience coach like Rodney Eade or Ross Lyon. By the time he went to West Coast I seriously believe that was the end of him. His confidence was that shot from Neeld, that psychological mindset was way down

He is still young so I hope this is a wake up call for him and goes back to the WAFL, works his ass off and gets picked up again. The talent is there..

Cale is a part of a past we should leave behind. I'm not saying this in a holier than thou sense nor because I wish to cover for the ass clowns who picked. I reckon we should give this a rest for the sake of message board unity. I disliked the old regime but to be frank, I care not about them anymore.
He isn't coming back nor should he.
P.S. One question though... Does anyone have the link of when Mario from Doncaster got stuck into Schwab on SEN?^_^

How about dreams?

Is that your missus BBO?

I think he'll definitely find his way onto another list, probably as a rookie.

Guarantee he will with teh new WAFL host club arrangement he will head from East Perth back to his old club Claremont

Correct. It is dead set unfair that this kid is branded as a squib over a bit of selective editing. He ran to position for the continuation of play. I clearly remember the commentator jokes at the time but they were followed by the appropriate qualifiers. This continued "run away" story is pure nonsense.

Edit. Nasher is a faster typist than me.

Oh good lord, Bitty. Can't you show some discretion with your avatars? This is supposed to be a family friendly site. A little bit of vomit rose up to the back of my mouth. You sure know how to spoil a thread fella.

Cale looked promising under the attacking Bailey game plan. Was never the headbanger in the Neeld mould. In the end fate was against him. When was the last time a magpie legged footballer made it? He was the kind of footballer that would have been a star in Robbie Flower's day.

We are in a new era, guys. Do you think for even a second Paul Roos is thinking about Cale Morton (or Jordon Gysbertsif it comes to that). As much as I feel for those guys, and the personal sadnesses the demise of their AFL careers may represent for them, the revenge threads on here does none of us any favors and frankly are very undignified.

Get over it guys.

We are about to begin a fabulous new era. The past is the past. Let's learn what we can from it, but let's never be a captive of it which a lot of posts on here seem to be..

She's one of my strappers.

I think I preferred your previous BBO!

Recruiters from other clubs also rated Morton. There are employees still at the MFC that defend that selection.

He was one mistake others could have made.

I think the bigger mistakes were selecting players other clubs thought were not in contention that early like Lucas Cook, Gysberts,

Brad Dalziel must be very unlucky... he played some good games in 2nd half of 2013.

Adam Simpson likely keen on the Hawthorn style game plan that relies a lot on very accurate kicking from half back. Therefore better to get rid of Morton and Dalziell now.

Only need to look at Garland and Birchall and Isaac Smith to see how tall, hard running half backs or wingman can be very good players but Morton just had 1 or 2 flaws too many.

I think that sums it up: a mistake that others could have made. It's debatable (and I'm not arguing one side or the other) that it's excusable given that most of the footy world agreed that he was worth the early pick, but surely it's beyond contention that it was a mistake.

And roll up roll up for some of the most insipid, poorest recruiting display by any professional? sporting club this side of the universe!

Shheeeit how can we be so bad OR IS IT GOOD at

A) Picking duds

B) Failing to develop on almost any player on our list!

Cale Morton sheesh another great great pick up

And so I do not care for the party line

'"He was rated by other recruiters" bultish

Others may have rated him but,

Fact is we picked him at 4

And don't get me started on Gysberts!

When will this miserable recruiting and non player development end?

Has someone put an ancient curse/spell on us that just cannot be broken?

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
