Even if all our young mids come through in the next couple of years,we still won't have anyone with the class of Scott Pendlebury.

I think we should offer him a $9 million / 7 year deal with the Captaincy as a sweetener.

We need a Marquee player at the Dees and just his coaching of our young mids would be priceless.

C'mon Melbourne, pull of a ruthless deal for once!

Nothing.

Let's develop the best list under the best coach. Sydney will go backwards this year by trying to buy a premiership. Have we not learnt anything from Tilbrook, Templeton, Moore?

It doesn't work.

We have potentially an elite list if you also have an elite coach. Roos has proved he can do it just by being smarter than everyone else. And he will.

Let's not demotivate our budding stars by adopting yet again a cargo cult mentality.

Shouldn't we see how we go this year first. Roos will either do 1 of 2 things.

1. Turn our entire list around by making the majority of our boys perform better than they have previously, which in return should make the team far more competitive and instantly inject the culture and belief in the players for making the change.

2. We have another poor and only slightly improved side, which will indicate the majority our players just can't compete at AFL level and we would then be forced to trade in some big names to replace the duds.

I for one hope it's the first scenario. Should mean we won't even need an A grader trade as we are starting to develop some A graders ourselves type thing.

In Roos we Trust

Why don't we try getting someone a little more realistic.. Bryce Gibbs.. Out of contract free agent.

We may already have our own Riewoldt....we might

I'd offer Pendlebury big money but only on a 3-year deal. Doubt there's any chance of him coming but then I laughed at anyone who thought we'd get Roos when Neeld was sacked.

At least the recruitment of (Collingwood Captain) Moore worked out, despite the other two being major duds. Moore even won a Brownlow playing for us if i recall!

Id rather throw money at Ollie Wines. Decided not to sign a long term deal with Port that was put in front of him mid year.

You actually have to wonder if he might harbour a desire to come back to Vic and play with his mate !!

Moore was a good example for not getting a big star player into a dud team. Had zero impact on out fortunes then. We were crap when he came and still crap when he left with the big bucks and Brownlow. Better build a robust side that plays with a bit of elan first.

You offer Pendles big money and a four year contract, but you don't put ridiculous Sydneyesque/GWSesque deals about. The AFL will bail those two out, but the MFC aren't on such solid ground. A lucrative four year deal could still be very enticing for Pendles/Trisomy 21.

Call me gullable, but I did hear a rumour at last years draft that we took Toumpa before Ollie on some form of agreement that after his manditory 2 years at which ever club he ended up at, we were going to throw him a decent sized contract to come to the Dee's (where he preferred to go due to his links with Viney). So then holding back on resigning with Port mid year certainly didn't prove anything, but it did keep that rumour alive.

I know I am probably dreaming, but what a move that would be at the end of next year. Ollie to the Dee's for a 3 year deal.

I literally watch Port games just for Wines. I was guttered when we didn't pick him and was even more guttered when he ran a muck on us Round 1. He's just another heart and soul player like our Jack. Except he had far better mids around him than poor Viney.

Phhhh.....under Roos' tutelage of our new all-conquering midfield he would struggle to get a game :-)

Don"t forget he's offering the Captaincy too as a sweetner

Even Buddy didn't get that !

This must take the cake as the most stupid, irrelevant, waste of time post ever.

If you don't like it then don't comment plain and simple.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
