Sydney has made a bid to steal Lance Franklin at the last minute

As the article says, if they do manage to snare Franklin and steal him from GWS then surely something is going to happen re living allowance.

Realistically, with the amount that Tippet and Franklin would be on they shouldn't be able to fit them in, along with all their other stars.

I'm not sure how Franklin can refuse when "there are a host of reasons that could win over Franklin. Franklin’s close mate, Wallaby Kurtley Beale, has returned to Sydney to play Super Rugby for the Waratahs, who train at Allianz Stadium, next door to the SCG...".

And yet every club goes feral about the possibility of us getting a priority pick this year, having been one of, if not the, worst performing club in the history of the game, on and off field, over the last 7 or so years.

This is BS. What's Tippett on?

As an aside, I'd take Hogan over Franklin.

If he goes I suspect we might hear something on the subject from the Hawks. Might be fun.

It's bloody ridiculous that Sydney can afford this amount with Tippett and the rest of their list. Higher cost of living, hey?

Equalisation is a myth.

Free agency is biassed towards the clubs in the premiership window and or with cash to splash.

The GC and GWS pick and AFL support tilts the playing field further.

Clubs like Sydney, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong can just top up year on year with the better players from the bottom half of the ladder leaving for a crack at the premiership.

Trips to the US are just used for the powerful clubs to get into the ear of the AFL not to effect any real change.

Pick 2, sign-and-trade with Sylvia, throw in Frawley.

Do it.

Anywayyyy, Swans have a few players retiring and Mumford looks set to go so could probably afford him. They wouldn't be the only team in the league with two 700k+ players in the team.

Brisbane are requesting 1.8 million dollars in emergency funding needed because they totally screwed up a bid for Paul Roos, still bitched about us getting any money.

The fact Sydney finished top 4 and are paying Tippett over a million dollars a year and can still afford at least 1.4 mil a year is just crazy, how much extra are they getting? no bloody wonder they're up the top all the time..

Agree with this. Peter Gordon was taken as the token charity case.

I hope Eddie is getting ready to shell out, nothing has come from this trip at all yet.

Yes, very hard to fathom that one! I'd prefer Hogan too, Franklin no way worth that much money, but then neither was a former No.1 draft pick!

Franklin would be huge for them in a marketing sense, but imo Cameron would still be their best forward.

And both similar style of player. Don't see them being cohesive. There is also Patton. Big forward line!

On the flipside this should p##s off some of their players and hopefully force out some quality young mids. The extra salary cap has to go.

thats it, exactly...

I'd be interested to see who they'd let go to make this work.

Relax. Buddy will end up at the Dee's.

Hope Swans land Buddy. Eddie's head might just explode over the cola. ????

Swans have had a host of players retire, might lose Mumford, no wonder they've got cap room.

He needs the diet version

Exactly, I've been as critical of the salary cap concessions as anyone but I can see how Sydney might have some room to offer Franklin (remembering the AFL will probably pitch in "Ambassador" money too).

I only wanted him to go to GWS to boost AFL interest even more in Sydney's West. Nothing is better than watching the great game grow in NSW.

In todays Hun they are saying with retirements and a few swans who want to leave eg. White and Mumford there would be room in their salary cap to fit in Buddy.

Buddy is renowned for not liking the promotional aspects of the game so the swans may look a way better deal than GWS.

lol - if they want to blow all their money on one player then go ahead.

Since Round 13 Tippett had the most amount of kicks to when inside their 50 out of any other player in the league.

When he was injured it showed they relied on him too much and had no one to fall back on (something Collingwood should be worried about...)

Makes sense for them to offer so much to Buddy. With him and Tippett playing it will be an imposing set up.

But might cause some issues when their young guns want a pay rise.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
