Yeah, two threads in the space of 10 days? Can't understand why he rates even one.

There seems to be a few journalists out there that give the MFC a hard time.I'm not sure whether they have it in for us though.

I think it is more likely they see an easy target and one that is currently wounded, so it's an easy kill, demonstrating how weak they are personally.

This begs the question: Are there any MFC friendly journo's out there? Can anyone rate the journo's in their opinion from most venemous to the MFC down to the most friendly?

It would be interesting to see the opionions.

If you think about it, getting Paul Roos and Peter Jackson were kind of like our priority pick and to demand a pick on top of this is a bit greedy.

That being said I hope we get one but life moves in if we don't.

I'm struggling to think of what you are getting at here. So we get a good coach and CEO, well yeah it's about time. I don't for the life of me see what this has to do with a priority pick. This is Barrett & Bartlett logic, it just doesn't stack up. The PP should be based on performance and our performance is poor. Bartlett in particular seems to think we should see what improvements we make under Roos, I don't think so.

1 pay TV channel, 2 free to air channels that really cover the game, AFL.com.au and club websites and then 2 major papers and yet they feel they need a media awards. Have you ever heard of anything so self centered?

I don't know about that.

I think they should be given incentive to strive for excellence in their field.

I just think its a shame that the bar is set so low.

There are hundreds of AFL media contributors. More than play the game.

It's definitely not as few as you may think.

Rubbish. These are appointments that the club made themselves, not concessions from the AFL.

PJ was recommended, and then he targeted Roos and we got our man.

You may wish to believe otherwise, but there is no conclusive proof.

We made appointments just like any other club does.

If WestCoast get their first choice, does that amount to a priority pick?

You may think that the money we are to receive also amounts to assistance, but surely you're aware that EVERY club receives money from the AFL each year? And differing amounts to equalise the competition?

Our allocated amount has effectively just been adjusted because the AFL have become aware of how behind we actually are.

We still fall behind in onfield talent, and that is where we require assistance if the AFL want us to be competitive sooner rather than later, or rather it'll give us a higher probability of being competitive sooner - there are no guarantees.

He lost me completely with the "Andrew Demetriou tells James Hird he should quit coaching immediately" bullship. He never said that, but DB ran off to tell JH the incorrect information like a 12 year old school girl telling her friend that the tall girl with glasses called her ugly.

I had dinner with some family friends last night, who are long term North Melbourne members, and even they hate him, thought that was hilarious!

I loved Garry Lyon last night, Barrett going on about Melbourne and it was great to show some Melbourne Arrogance come from Garry saying somthing along the lines the club doesn't care what the the other clubs think and they will do what they want.

He won a lot of awards at the AFL media awards night last night.

So did Caro.

To think that those 2 set the standard...

Well knock me over with a feather! Media Awards....self indulgent backslapping exercise to make each other feel better!

A big night for Selfies!! but in the end WGAF

How would Garry Lyon know? He does not speak for MFC and its better he is not in any position of responsibility there.

Doesn't really have to know anything to make that statement RR. It's a pretty safe assumption that all clubs will do what they think is best for their club.

Really and truly. What would Lyon know and what on earth gives him any legitimacy to speak on anything to do with Melbourne?

He only played 226 games for the club, was captain for seven years, is a dual Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Medallist, was leading goal kicker twice, an All-Australian three times, played state of origin for Victoria, coached International Rules and is a media personality, featuring on television, radio and in newspapers. On the other hand, us keyboard heroes have the credentials to say whatever we like on any subject under the sun and to do so with impeccable authority.

LOL.

And no other Club has been under AFL hypercare financial and resource support like MFC.

Lyon even recognises that he is foremost a media person and has largely avoided involvement in MFC club affairs. His small involvement some years ago was a complete disaster. Regardless of his record at the Club he does not necessarily speak for nor represent the Clubs position on any issue.

Reading what the scum wrote about us in this weeks sliding doors makes my blood boil, we have poached brett Allison and Ben Mathews, both have connections to Roos, not sure how we are robbing other clubs of their assistants.

That's purely your opinion, Rohypnol.

We've been promised money.

The amount differs depending on who you ask.

Other than that, the board went to the AFL and asked for a recommendation of who we should replace Schwab with.

Anything else is speculation.

I await your derogatory reply.

I'm just glad you're not a mod anymore cos you'd just delete the post & ban me.

Its one of the dumbest things I've ever read. How are we meant to improve if we don't pay overs for quality assistant coaches?

Maybe he should speak to his own boss big Hutchy about how much overs he's getting paid

Mathews would be getting paid more being a front line assistant rather than development coach, so that's just offering him a better opportunity

and Allison and Roos are old mates, haha not sure who we are trying to poach for way overs?

maybe Adam Simpson and Scott Burns? maybe he should write something about Brisbane and West coast too haha

Understood but he's still entitled to express his opinion as a Melbourne person irrespective of whether or not you think his involvement with the club was a "complete disaster" or otherwise.

BTW in the recent history of the club he's not on his Pat Malone as far as being involved with disasters are concerned. Do we write them all off from ever having an opinion about the club again in their lives?

Nah you fit in well with irrelevance around here.

Why would the AFL promise money and push a CEO consultant?

Which other Club has been 2 wins and 54% and sacked or push out their President, CEO, Coach and 1/2 their Board, football and commercial departments?

Yes we are just your standard garden type run of the mill club going through business as usual.

What a train wreck. And if you can't piece the PJ and AFL connection then fine.

He isn't a Melbounre person. He's a media person. The same goes for Mike Sheahan.

I not sure public utterances about the Club from any of past ringleaders of the circus is appropriate or needed. There are enough precedents there with past Presidents and CEOs.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
