Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Your legal nous would be appreciated here but give Dank has categorically stated that the payers have done nothing wrong and he can clear them, it seems surprising that none of them have challenged the decision in a court and subpoena'd Dank OR taken him to a civil Court for damages.

Surely someone can force him to provide any evidence he claims to have.

The reality is that Dank has no such evidence and that he's delusional. Any decent human being who had evidence that could clear either the NRL or AFL players or both would already have given that information to ASADA.

I too expect that is the reality but it tends to be human nature to buy into hope.

I'm just surprised no one has brought him to account. I can only assume that means no one, not even the players, believes a word he says.

?..........

That day in February 2013 will certainly go down in my mind as the blackest day in Australian sport and especially, for its two major football codes.

Maybe, so far......but far blacker will be the day that these drug cheats get off with a puss* weak penalty, or none at all

*no, I am not a Kiwi - that is what spell check did to what I really said !

That says a lot about you.

How is the self flagellation coming along?

I prefer the simpler things, like supporting Melbourne

Surely these things are one and the same :-) Edited by monoccular

I really am flummoxed about their elimination final.

On one hand I want them out of the finals.

On the other I kinda hope the Bombers win with a goal after the siren following a controversial free kick. Hopefully Brad Scott's whinging head will explode.

I have the same dilemma, but you offer a good solution DA, also I like the scenario of Ess doing ok this year and then failing miserably next year under their golden boy.

Schadenfreude? You bet!

North will roll them, don't worry

I agree, but not really the point, the crows, magpies, eagles and suns have every right to feel a little [censored] they have been allowed to play finals with cheating allegations hanging over them

That's the positive I take out of the messy situation. Stuff the pies, crows, eagles and suns- I take pleasure in the pain they feel.

Absolutely disgraceful that the afl is spineless enough to let essendon take a leak on the integrity of the game

Sir Paul -- the "integrity of the game" is as big a myth as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

I agree that this trashes what little may have remained, but it has long gone.

Wow!

Wow Indeed!

The Mind Boggles One question though How the hell did the Journo get his hands on a supposedly confidential document. Strategic Leak or Cloud Hacked lol

Please oh please Middleton would you throw a hand grenade in the next 48 hrs to make the finals even more interesting.

Imagine the Football Media go into a maddened frenzy of outrage, outbursts and overly dramatic opinions.

Media to any Essendon Player/Coach/Official: "Can you tell us how you feel about what's just unfolded"

Essendon Player/Coach/Official: "Well yes it disappointing but you know in this industry you have to move on really quickly and you don't get time to dwell on this decision

because we have another court case coming up next week. The boys are gutted but we need to focus on next week and try and get and our

structures right and make sure that we come to play next week"

But beelzebub trawling through publicly available documents sounds so boring. The "secret documents" and "confidential report" sounds so much more exciting. Thank you Fairfax Media for once again putting the element of intrigue and conspiracy into the boring task of keeping up-to-date with what's happening in the world.

Heard this morning on 3AW from Sly of the Underworld who is a barrister in Melbourne that Justice Middleton will be handing down his decision a lot sooner than Nov/Dec. From what he said I assume there is a good chance it could be announced during this final series. Sly was surprised that Middleton has made his decision so soon. I might be wrong but I assume this could be in favour of ASADA more than EFC.

Praying for Middleton to come out and rule in favour of ASADA today, I still think the comments of Little coming out after the trial and saying he hopes it all just goes away will come back to bite him

remember during the trail Middleton said any ruling in favour of Essendon would be done on the condition that in his opinion ASADA could re-gather all of the same evidence without any issues, he wants to see Justice be handed out here and isn't stupid enough to think Essendon aren't trying to sneak their way out of this.

Under the subhead "prohibited substances", the report says there is "player knowledge of the storage of WADA-prohibited substances at the club based on interview transcripts and quoting examples".

GONE

Essendon brought the court case to say the way ASADA got this evidence was illegal and the Notices should be permanently stopped from being issued. They are saying if the Notices are voided ASADA doesn't have the power to force the players to give this evidence again. I don't really understand this as ASADA has since been given legislative power to force athletes to give evidence. Apparently there is some argument that players can refuse to give evidence that is self incriminating. I don't know how that works as surely that's the point of the power. Anyway this is obviously the evidence Bombers brought the case to stop.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
