Move Sylvia on while he has currency

Soidee

Recommended Posts

After watching most games this year I am more convinced than previous years that Sylvia has to be traded. Watched him closely today and he is at best a cameo player who just does not present enough.

He has currency and will add to a higher placed team. We will not miss him nor his patchy performances.

He is a senior player but not a leader.

Lets get some value for him by trading.

Soidee I am not slagging you off.

But mate where have you been the last six months.

The guy is at years end an unrestricted free agent.

You cannot get any thing for him.

He cannot be traded.

He stays or goes to wherever he choses next year.

There is nothing we can do about it or get for him.

Understand?

I'd like to keep him. I think he has been v good this year, and I want him to play in our team as we improve as I think he will improve with us.

I like or optimism but I do not share it. 10 years not much return.

Would be shocked if you could trade a pick under 35 for Sylvia...be a huge win.

Stupid thread, because he can't be traded.

Stupid idea anyway, because he is one of our senior players (like it or not), third for tackles, first by a country mile for inside 50s and, oh, had another 20-odd touches today, which is happening a lot.

What would we possibly gain from letting him walk? Spot 40 on the list for pick 80 or something?

FMD.

Time for a (potential) AFL first sign and trade deal where by we give Sylvia a contract only to then move him on as a contracted player.

Personally I think we keep him and his under achieving ways. I'm not sure what we gained from Moloney and Rivers leaving except for criticism.

If the money is right ie. cheap and commensurate with his lack of standing in the game I'd be inclined to sign him on. I don't expect any level of improvement but we bemoan our lack of skill and big bodies. It is time to realise he's a high half forward flanker not a midfielder though.

He'd also be leading our inside 50 blaze away turnovers quite convincingly. Unfortunately his old mate Moloney isn't around to challenge him for the title.

It absolutely amazes me that people still don't understand the rules of free agency.

Well heres a thought. we somehow orchestrate that he finishes in the top 3 in the b& f. He goes free agency and the AFL, who by then have refused to give us a PP, give us a first rounder for him instead ( which may mean pick 3) ...am I being too hopeful?

If he was not a free agent I would agree totally with you!

I saw a half assed effort from him today yet again...dont care what the possessions say.

Chases every 2 qtrs....or seems like it...

Unlike Dawes who chases at every contest and is twice his size...1% ers matter...

????? I am sure its been said, but he is a free agent. He either signs with us or he signs with someone else................ he can't be traded.

There is simply no point in not trying to re-sign him.......... regardless of how disappointed you may be, he is still in our best dozen players and should be our best player. So we will be weaker if he does not sign.

I think the AFL have basically stated that Free Agent compensation will be very minimal after the outcry last year.

Good point.

Better get rid of him, quick smart.

As I said I'd keep him but any thoughts on him playing well or having a real dip are very kind. Regardless of the talent he may or may not have he could offer a lot more with his kicking that's for sure and his work rate around the ground is still a long way from a top player.

Absolutely don't agree with this at all.

Sign him up MFC.

ASAP.

Which is dumb because the compensation seemed very reasonable last year and considering their isn't an established market it makes no sense. I don't understand who St Kilda were meant to buy last year in FA. There were no FA's of talent anywhere close to Goddard. Loading up on Rivers, Moloney and Byrnes with the money spent on Goddard wouldn't have helped the saints!

I don't really get what people expect Sylvia to do each week. He is in our top 2 or 3 players every few games and when he has a poor one he still manages to collect 15 possessions or so. Letting him go would leave a further hole in the midfield of any senior players apart from Nathan Jones. Can we seriously expect Jonesy to carry the midfield anymore than he is atm?

Further convinced he simply is not a pure midfielder but a high half forward.

Behind a good midfield playing that role with short bursts through the middle will only see his best. Unfortunately that will more than likely be at another club.

Really hope we can keep him though, if a question of $$$ we have the cap space.

Sylvia will help us win the premiership.

He is a gun.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
