Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You would want to throw in Gilles and Pedersen to sweetin the deal!

Sweeten for us you mean? How about we go a step further and offer Ped, Gillies, Bail, Davis, Tapscott, Tynan, Taggert and Nicholson for Karnezis and their first rounder? Could entice them.

Does Sam Blease hold any currency if we were to offer him up?

Not really.

We spent a priority pick on him and got him for a first round pick at #17 in 2008.

Was doing well last year but has gone significantly backwards this year. His effective disposal rate has dropped to around 55% and in terms of averages leads for the least amount of tackles, ranked 31/35 for contested possessions, 28/35 for uncontested possessions, 28/35 for kicks, least amount for handballs, equal last for disposals, second last for marks, 28/34 for clangers, and hasnt taken a contested mark this season.

But third last for frees against and top 10 for average goals. Some of the best footy I saw him play this year was when he was up forward but his turnovers absolutely destroyed him and our score... (was against Collingwood and I lost count of their conversions from turnovers).

He does get a bit of support from some DLers here and did have a good year last year but we wouldn't get anything for him.

I reckon Blease could be a great addition to an already good side. The speed he has is very, very rare. A good system with good coaches and he could be a very handy player.

Dustin Martin for $700k?

Yep, I'd do that in a heart beat and it's realistic if we can land Choco.

Not sure Roos would approve of such a move if he were coach, but he might be able to land us Luke Parker.

If we lost Sylvia and delisted Davey, we could easily afford Dusty.

We are going to have to do something anyway and it's a figure we'll have to pay to get players here.

Land Choco as coach with Adam Simpson or Junior McDonald as his 2IC.

Then pay sheep stations to get Martin, Sloane AND Fyfe. Instantly, we have a midfield.

All of a sudden we have an okay list (our bookends are very good) and an effective coaching department.

Fyfe is a pipedream, he is a WA lad, so it's unlikely he'd leave.

Sloane, Parker, Sidebottom and Martin should be high on our list.

Any of those players would go a long way to helping Nath Jones out.

The AFL need to give us extra cap space to get these players across.

A priority and extra cap space would be good.

I'd take Dustin Martin in a heart beat, but he has not changed his ways, he still plays up just as much as he always has, no matter how many articles Richmond allow about his new routine working for him..

Proves if you play good footy you get breathing space. But don't for a second believe he is a new man.

Saying that I want footballers, but the people on here wanting a good off field culture, this guy won't help that at all.. Could make it worse. But if he gets the ball and puts it through the sticks a couple of times each week I don't care..

The thing about extra cap space is we have no money except the alleged $2.5mill that the AFl are to chip in. Unless they are going to give us the extra cap money each year, we simply cannot afford it. We could easily dig a deeper hole for ourselves with a bigger cap.

I think Parker signed a contract extension a few weeks ago, so I think we're no chance.

A bit of info on the Melbourne recruiting team:

Taylor rapt with new recruiting role

DESPITE Melbourne enduring a remarkably difficult season as club, first year national recruiting manager Jason Taylor says he’s relished his inaugural season with the Demons.

The former Collingwood recruiter joined Melbourne in January this year, after becoming an experienced AFL recruiter.

Taylor, who was right-hand man to the highly respected recruiter Derek Hine at Collingwood, said the fact that Melbourne had put together a strong recruiting team, including full-timers Todd Viney, Kelly O’Donnell, Gary Burleigh, Tim Lamb and Darren Farrugia, had made his first season with the club an exciting one from a recruiting perspective.

“Nothing’s too much for them – the guys are always willing to work hard, and we work well together,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“We get on well and we communicate, which is critical in what we do. We’re all on the same page, so it’s been really enjoyable from that aspect,” he said.

“On a personal level, I’ve got my head down and am just focused on the job ahead and navigating through the year to try and find the best available talent in the national draft.”

Taylor said the work that he and his team put into identifying the next Demons was “incredible”.

“It involves an enormous amount of travel to view live games throughout the country. Then you’re reporting on players, who are assessed over those games, over the weekend.

“Throughout the week, we simply review the weekend’s assessments to assist us with planning ahead to the following week.

Taylor said there was some genuine talent on offer this year, but he added that the scrutiny of the recruiting industry – on the talent identifiers and the players – was simply greater.

“There is a level of expectation that’s probably thrust upon draft picks – not just from the media, but the public interest is growing each year. That puts a level of expectation on the player, which can be a bit hasty,” he said.

“If you look back on history and some of the champions of the game, their first 30 to 70 games – there wasn’t that expectation on them, even some of the elite players. If anything, that expectation needs to be doused a little bit.

“That might be harder on the athletes coming in, and you might not always see peak performance. We have to pick people who will prosper through a range of their personalities.”

Taylor said there was a pool of around 160 players Melbourne had monitored this year, which included watching matches live, plus “a helluva lot of vision during the week”.

“It’s pretty much non-stop and you could work 24/7 for what you need to be covering, but it’s important that you work as a team, delegate and support each other. It’s intense mental work, because you take in a lot of information,” he said.

“From there, we go through the interview process, where we interview the players, and that’s ongoing from the start to middle and latter part of the year.

“There are heavier periods, but we need to make sure we research behind the scenes as well. It’s not just about viewing the player.”

Taylor said there is an “enormous amount of work” that goes into selecting a player, and he works closely with Viney and Josh Mahoney in list management areas, plus pro scout O’Donnell.

“We need to pick the right player to prosper at AFL level, because it is really demanding and getting more demanding every year. The key element of that is being prepared and not to make decisions on a whim,” he said.

Its the kids again ... given our lack of culture highlighted in 2013, players would be mad to give up their current premiership window in any top 8 club. Kangas and Lions plus Eagles are all top 8 chances in 2014.

I suggest its Daisy Thomas and then kids as our best hope. Maybe someone like Levi Greenwood at Kangas is a chance as he has ben squeezed out in 2013.

Jack stevens from the saints? could be a good trade for a second rounder or something like that.

If he is on the table.

Two others from saints, Gilbert and Dempster. Both medium sized defender, both can play on a variety of feds.

Both are types that we dont quite have atm.

Gilbert has great run out of the back line, could give our midfield good use of the ball.

Dempster is a bit older, little bit of class about him. Good skills.

Im not saying we should go get all three, but these guys are options that could benefit the development of our mid field.

The reason i bring it up is st kilda need youth, we could prob get players of their calibre for a late pick or trade.

I think gilberts disposal is questionable.

Thoughts? particularly on jack stevens?

Greenwood is tough and a decent player. He also needs an opportunity. I wouldn't mind him as a midfield addition.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
