The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I'm really hijacking here, but finally I did ask if Melbourne had spoken to him before the combine.. They had.

I asked him about his thoughts in coming to Melbourne, and he said like anyone you do pay attention to the terrible year they had, and how bad development and team harmony looked under Neeld. However, he stated he was shocked at how he considered their interview to be one of the most indepth and constructive. The line of questioning was very direct and the approach the club has about where it's going and the type of players it wants was very firm. They did touch on the past and expressed to him that the MFC wanted to draft players who wouldn't stand for poor results and is he the type of character who plays football for passion or because he's always been good at it. I don't know if it was a dig at current players but seemed to be incredibly interesting.

I asked if he'd be happy to come to Melbourne and said yeah I'd be stoked.

Whos doing the interviewing DL7? is it Viney, Taylor and Roos? or just the first two?

Only the Sydney 7 mil 5 year crack. I reckon freo will have a crack before he signs anywhere. They should have a fair but of cash,

So it's crack now, is it?

I'd be disappointed if he revealed who it was, that's not for us to know. The info he has given is insightful, interesting and more than enough. No need to ask for a name.

Yes, better not to know

Yeah for the sole reason that anyone who knows Boyd could be offended by the comments made and I wouldn't want to start a conflict over a private conversation albeit the small chance it would be.

Brisbane Demon, the conversation they had as I mentioned was a few weeks ago prior to the end of the season. Roos had just been appointed and wasn't involved, but Jackson was and he was involved minimally in the interview, just as much to introduce himself and briefly outline the direction of the club. It was Viney, Mahoney and our recruiting manager but I'm not 100% sure if it was Taylor. He started the role this year didn't he... So you'd presume it was him.

Thanks for sharing this.

I also respect the fact that you haven't mentioned the young fella involved - good on you!

Having said that, whoever takes Boyd will have a star in the making.

Cheers DL7.

Is this kid a realistic chance of ending up at the Dees?

I don't recall seeing any mention of what position the mystery player plays... or perhaps I skimmed over that part? Is he a player that we would be in need of and more particularly, someone we would want?

I just find this great.

Of all the rumours flying about.

None has come out of the MFC.

At long last our leaks have been fixed.

The only thing we will get out of the club is announcements.

Either that or we've achieved nothing noteworthy.

Heard the same again today:

Sylvia club is confident will resign

interest in Levi Greenwood

Fitz a possible trade item.

Perfect time to trade him as his currency will never be higher. We have enough tall forwards so he can be used to help us bolster our midfield depth.

I thought there was a rule against trading a guy in the first year after signing a new contract. If someone knows if this is correct or not please advise.

Either way I don't think we will trade anyone of value. Instead this will be a rather unremarkable trade period aimed at bringing in a couple of midfielders through trades otherwise we will hit the draft.

Roos will go for the old Sydney way of trying to find value with 2nd and third round picks.

As for DL7's post about Boyd it's interesting. But I wouldn't believe the young kid as an expert. If he played for the Dandy Stingrays I bet that the coaches all tried to tell them Boyd could be defeated and wasn't that great in order to psych them up for the grand final. No doubt a lot of gun forwards carry attributes that give them an advantage at under 18 that they lose at AFL. Tom Hawkins was the best example of a man child who then started to do what he did in under 18 at AFL level it just took 5 years. Jesse Hogan will struggle next year I'm pretty sure to kick more than a goal a game average.

hogan viney toumpas generation will be the ones to reap the rewards if they come. sad to say it but everything is stacking against clubs like MFC to improve. the "premiership window" theory is no longer valid. With FA , the big clubs will stay up there, constantly topping up with guns. theres no guarenteed fall back to the pack for the big clubs anymore. just go buy a fyfe or a franklin and away you go again.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
