No no no.

That is way over the top. Fyfe isn't that good. Fitzy will be better than any of them, and be a gun in the midfield - mark my words.

Your a muppet

You're a muppet. At least get your insults correct. Or try to.

Easily the worst.

Maybe there needs to be a thread for serious rumours supported by quotes from the media, radio etc and this one for rumours with no foundation at all...?

Isn't that what a rumor is?

Old, at your age I hope that you will cease and desist using American spelling. Rumour.

Sorry, but pedantry is one of the great pleasures of life in my dotage.

Was more talking about the ones from mates, people hanging around airports etc, separating the credible from the not so credible

That's better!

Back on topic, had a night lunch with an old friend on mine last Friday. Conveniently, a player who will be drafted I'd imagine in the top 10 of the draft this year popped i

Actually on the thread topic, last Friday I was dining with a friend when a young lad predicted to go top echelon in this draft dropped in and was nice enough to give us some of his time. Without probing too much we asked him who had contact with him, how the speeches went and where he was expecting to go.

Very very interesting hearing how aggressive some teams were in getting answers, and how personal others were in asking questions I thought wouldn't normally be asked in a job interview situation. Nonetheless that topic is for another time.

The important thing was he briefly bought up Tom Boyd and I asked him what he thought. They had played a few games together along the journey and I asked him if he was surprised about the hype. His response was: 'I feel sorry for him'. I replied he's about to be picked up number 1, be on $150 clicks a year and have an AFL career surely you're kidding me.
His response was I'm not feeling sorry for him for that.. I feel sorry for him because he'll never ever be the player people want him to be. He is 205cm and 105kgs playing against boys. He stated in the local TAC comp, his teams FB was 81kgs. He and his teammates said his one attribute is overpowering opponents, and for his size he even does it poorly in comparison. His skills left alot to be desired and unsurprising due to his height but this lad said he was the worst below his knees for any PF he'd played with. He stated Daniher and Hogan were far better options and would influence their clubs far more. He used Patton as an example and stated how he dominated TAC Cup and since coming into the AFL has had some good games but is still yet to impose himself. Boyd isn't half of what Patton is, and compared how in the future he saw a Jack Watts (expectations far outweighing performances).

He said he was a great guy, a good teammate but it was very interesting to hear. I've always said I wouldn't be interested in Boyd I just want a midfielder but given this, I'll pay close attention to his career and see if infact he was proven correct.

???

Sorry sorry posted before I'd finished for whatever reason.

He further went on to mention that he considered himself very lucky to be in this year's draft as previous had far more depth after the top 6. He said your top 6 in the draft will be great players, have starred their whole career and have only ambitions to be the greatest possible footballers, but said after that he'd be interested to see who goes where. Said the stature of most in this years Championships were a bit smaller than that of last years comp. Don't think he played last year but maybe just knew the players involved. Regardless was quite interesting listening to someone with an actual inside view.

I'm really hijacking here, but finally I did ask if Melbourne had spoken to him before the combine.. They had.
I asked him about his thoughts in coming to Melbourne, and he said like anyone you do pay attention to the terrible year they had, and how bad development and team harmony looked under Neeld. However, he stated he was shocked at how he considered their interview to be one of the most indepth and constructive. The line of questioning was very direct and the approach the club has about where it's going and the type of players it wants was very firm. They did touch on the past and expressed to him that the MFC wanted to draft players who wouldn't stand for poor results and is he the type of character who plays football for passion or because he's always been good at it. I don't know if it was a dig at current players but seemed to be incredibly interesting.

I asked if he'd be happy to come to Melbourne and said yeah I'd be stoked.

GWS is going to be the AFL's biggest basket case, players don't wont to go there and players want to leave. The Gold Coast at least can sell G Ablett aand the lifestyle.

The lifestyle up there includes the new rulers of the Gold Coast, the bikie gangs.

I was just really interested to hear what a current draftee has to say. Not disappointed in the least in what you got from him. Great job.

Fitzy better midfielder than Fyfe and Judd - that will take some topping for POTY.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
