Injury List - Round 14

Misson says Frawley should be right to go this week. McKenzie is 50/50. Grimes is about to commence contact training, but his stint on the LTI doesn't finish until next week.

I'd say Evans and Grimes might be back at similar times (2-3 weeks away), whilst I think Jamar and Viney will be another week or two after them.

Round 14 Melbourne injury list

Mitch Clark (foot) indefinite

Michael Evans (foot) 3 weeks

James Frawley (hamstring) test

Jack Grimes (collarbone) 2 weeks

Mark Jamar (toe) 4 weeks

Joel Macdonald (toe) 1 week

Jordie McKenzie (elbow) test

Nathan Stark (ankle) 3-4 weeks

Jack Viney (toe) 2-3 weeks

Are other clubs subjected to as many long term injured as the demons? Its not a rhetorical question.

I really wonder if we have a history giving players longer to return to the track.

I thing we were just born unlucky we seem to get bad injuries to our better players every year.

God only knows why.

Hopefully we will welcome back Jamar and MacDonald soon, we are also really missing Mckenzies ability to use the ball.

I think part of the problem is our 6 most competitive players shoulder the load of the 6 least competitive players, along with poor execution requiring superman efforts to score or stem the flow.

May have missed it but Clark is now indefinate.

This smells like forget 2013 to me.

I just hope that he has a future as a player at all. Serious injury with overall a pretty poor prognosis compared with almost any other fracture. Give him all the rest he needs.

Pretty scary when you think about how much he and Dawes get paid and really they are just an added cost with medical expenses - seen little return on these investments at this stage. I have serious doubts about his ability to get himself right long term and contribute consistently

I thing we were just born unlucky we seem to get bad injuries to our better players every year.

God only knows why.

Some possible reasons:

(1) lack of appropriate fitness/conditioning for the style of game being played

(2) poor skills leading to players being forced to twist and turn more than they should to get a ball (I seem to recall that's how Jamie Bennell did his knee)

(3) poor skills leading to players being forced to put their bodies in positions where contact with other players occurs which would not have happened if the ball had been delivered properly

(4) and some unavoidable contact issues (such as Jack Grimes' latest injury)

dead right mate

posters thought that mn had no idea but the fitness program that weakened the players the last 2 preseasons was to counter this exact problem, long term injury and recovery rates are expected to improve as the 3rd preseason is completed this summer

at the moment were still paying the penalty for the 2008-2011 preseasons and fitness regime

I don't disagree with you Monoccular, lets forget 2013 we are now not going to play in finals!

I hope that we can get one year out of him in 2014 but I have to admit I am far from confident he will play again.

We have given up a lot for bugger all so far, not his fault of course

Is this discussed anywhere? Not discounting your opinion but wondering if I had missed something. Thanks.

Confess I have a vested interest in owning a shoe shop but it does indicate the importance of the foot and foot care and why a correctly fitted shoe suitable for use is essential.

Comment was made during the Port match that one side had made a decision on stops in anticipation of the weather and were forced to rotate players who changed their shoes when the decision was seen as wrong.

Ankle Knee and leg injuries are quite often an outcome of incorrect footwear, Too much, too little or just wrong unit being used in the wrong circumstances. there is a lot more technology in footwear than most people consider

It is important that training and match situations have different footwear and different soles for different surfaces can have a big impact. Even the construction of the toe box and the rigidity or suppleness of the leather will have an impact on toe condition. Not to mention lacing which can compensate for different foot structure

Specialist insoles can compensate for overuse situations eg where toe is used as significant take off in Jamar case, or in circumstance attributed to Viney (hot spot)

Not sure what you can do with dumbell dropping have never heard of safety caps for gym shoes may be an opening

Unsure if Melbourne have a preferred boot provider but it could be worth considering and I would assume that we have specialist podiatry consultants within our medical and support team

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
