Time for some blokes like Tynan, Taggert etc to step up. Back half of the season, new coach, push for the seniors boys...

Strauss in the forward pocket - is that something regular for him at Casey? Or is this new?

A bit like Nahas at CHF for Coburg...

Kyle Matthews was once skipper of the Casey Scorpions, a courageous one and a really personable young bloke. Lately, he's been drifting between the periphery of their senior team and its development league (ressies) side and I've been wondering why. This long article provides some insight.

Men acquitted for brawl that injured VFL star

A sad business this 'Jack'...

Hardly surprising.

The Australian 'justice' system never gets it right, and our judges are pathetically soft.

Feel for Kyle Matthews right now, but every Australian should be angry and fed up.

If Adrian Bayley cant get the maximum sentence for rape then who can?

I feel angry and fed up that once again a mixture of alcohol and testosterone has resulted in a very serious injury.

However the evidence, at least as outlined in the article, is heavily conflicted and criminal guilt requires a finding beyond reasonable doubt -- from the evidence outlined in the article there does seem doubt as to whom was the aggressor.

And yes I agree with your assertion regarding Bailey and just what, having been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt, what level of depravity and premeditation is required for a maximum sentence to be applied -- and more particularly in his previous offences.

truth is, most of us, we just don't know. I don't know what happened, but I believe in Kyle Matthews,,,, & I don't know what transpired in court.

The problem with this, like the David Hookes case, is that Jury's are inherntly stupid and inexperienced in this environment. They don't understand that legal defense often relies on misrepresentation and arguement to muddy the waters and create doubt.

In this case and the the David Hookes case the victims were trying to leave and yes there was verbal abuse. In both cases the perpertrator CHOSE not to return inside and defuse the situation but to strike out and cause PHYSICAL harm. I don't think I need a lot of evidence and legal arguement to determine where guilt lies. Let the Judge determine severity and mitigating circumstances.

Without knowing anything other than that article, how can punching someone "because I thigh he was going to punch me" count as self defence?

It's the old street fighters first rule of defence, if an argument starts get in with the first hit. Usually ends the argument immediately. That a jury fell for the evidence presented where the perpetrator has felt threatened so has gone the king hit is sad but no use blaming the judge when its the jury system. The jury system is not perfect but it is much better than any alternative, a bit like democracy really.

If I was a juror and I heard a lawyer asking about killer Kyle as a nickname I would've heard enough to practically get up and leave. Anyone who has ever seen him play knows he isn't a killer. Not to mention he's about 70kg dripping wet.

Anyway they've seen the best defense on offer in the criminal case. Time to go hire a lawyer and win the civil case!

Essentially, deanox, one acts in self-defence when one perceives an immediate threat to themself. The argument here was that the defendant thought that Matthews was about to hurt him, and so acted in self-defence.

Really big game today for all MFC players, but in particular Davis, Magner, Couch and Taggert. They're all (largely) untried, but with a new coach and with some underperforming players, the chances will come.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
