Watson and Watts

Recommended Posts

If as reported that upon Peter Jacksons request Watson has had a chat to Watts about what he went through then it just shows how great a bloke Watson really is.

Never heard a bad story about the bloke.

And Jackson isn't mucking round either- great to see.

And good on Jack too for seeking ways to improve himself.

Jackson identified that Watts was going through many similar things as Jobe did in the first few years of his career- big expectations, struggling for consistent performances and all the mental stuff and how he turned it around to become one of the best in the game.

Put Jobe and Jack in contact and subsequently a meeting or meetings (I don't know if ongoing at all) took place between the two.

I reckon it is great to see from all parties for different reasons each.

It was interesting also to hear the discussion of potential presidents. The Kennett thing could be happening. I have mixed feelings on that one. He would undoubtedly get results, but he tends to be a cold-blooded bastard who sees the end as all important and could well make sacrifices that we don't like in the short term.

Good on PJ, it doesn't hurt to have ties with Essendon.

We already have ties with Collingwood, we are forever indebted to them - they have generously given us their home game the past decade.

Eddie bats for us when we are on the deck.

Good on Jobe Watson, along with Gary Ablett Jr, they are the best people in football - especially helping out kids.

I just hope Watts was listening to Mathew Lloyds HOF acceptance speech

He even mentioned Jack Watts and explained how he was told and shown to have more physical presence

After being terrorized as he put it by Steve Kretiuk he was really upset and expected sympathy and got exactly the opposite

Without that guidance we may never have seen Lloyd develop into the unique name of the Velvet Sledgehammer

The key word is development and we all know we have a problem in that area

...had a problem in that area. I think the FD now would never had sent Jack out on that Queens Birthday to be publicly humiliated like he was.

i don't remember him being publicly humiliated

I remember a kid having a quiet debut while we got smashed which is not in the slightest bit unusual

Please describe to me how you have reached this conclusion

Are you serious? I thought it was widely acknowledged that debuting Watts in that manner was the wrong decision. It was like watching a lamb get slaughtered. He was clearly a target for them to make a statement. His first touch he was smashed from all sides by about four Collingwood players. Alot of people formed their opinion of Watts in that game and haven't wavered since.

This is fantastic of Jackson. We need to retain Watts. The kids love him for one thing (I know that doesn't seem to rate as very important in the minds of some which I find odd to say the least), but if we ever become a good team, he'll have a big role to play. Slowly but surely I've noticed his physicality improving as well. Small but positive steps.

You can choose not to acknowlege the generosity of Collingwood.

But we'd of been far more than 5 million in debt if Collingwood hadn't of given us their home games.

The only thing pathetic here is blokes like yourself.

I didn't hear the speech, but if this is what was said and Jack doors not go hard this week, it's likely he never will.

I actually thought his physicality last week was acceptable.

Oh dear.

The CEO involving himself in football matters.

That's a no no, surely?

Where are the crackleheads calling for him to be sacked for poor governance?

So happy to see that.

As long as people dont say "Watts linked with Essendon" because he met with Jobe.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
