Kennett future MelbourneFC President?

So the only alternative to McLardy is Kennett?

I can't believe people are supporting this. Jesus Christ. We really are over a barrel.

What's your grand plan P-Man - sit on our hands and keep copping thumpings with a board that continually makes poor deciosns? I mean they can't even make a decision on Neeld for God's sake. Either sack him (my prefferred option) or back him in. Kennett won't fluff around. He knows what it takes to build a successful club - has the runs on the board. We should count ourselves lucky that he's even prepared to put his hand up for the job!!!

Who else is there? Unless there are some Melbourne people who wish to stand up and take on the job then he is a better option than the incumbents. You can guarantee we won't be irrelevant with him as President.

EDIT: Not to mention he has the runs on the board with Hawthorn and knows how a successful club operates.

Great - a president who is on the record saying we should merge with North Melbourne.

Sounds promising.

I think he meant it in jest. For the most part Kennett has said that Melbourne needs to be up and running for the benefit of the league, and that it's an MCG tenant and it should be performing well. He has commented more like a disappointed parent than naything.

It's all over the news, he's been approached, WYL will have a nervous break down.

No i won't we need a man like Jeff to front the place.

I hope it happens.

"Melbourne is a strong brand. It will survive but it needs a winning culture, it needs some passion and it needs good governance - it doesn't have any of that.

He is right! and he is the right bloke to bring in passion! No beating around the bush just bring him on asap!

Posted

And how did "we" vote the last time a merger was proposed?

The club pulled the wool over its own supporters eyes - that's how. Proxy Vote in favour of board decison anyone?????????? Biggest deception since Judas sent Jesus to the cross.....

I'm absolutely all for it. He's quoted as saying he wants to and I reckon it would be fantastic. The current longest serving Sydney President was once the President of West Coast. I don't care who he barracks for now, whether you love him, or loathe him he has a history of success in the face of difficult circumstances.

It would be brilliant for this club.

Thats a good point.

He would merge us on a whim. I would not continue my membership.

Agree.....TRUCK OFF JEFF! We do not want people like you or people who support MFC merging! Jam it in your pipe and stay in retirement!

Don Mclardy is doing his absolute best...RESULTS ARE NEEDED ON THE FIELD!!!!!!

If that self centred, autocratic, self promoting, know it all, footballing nuffy, is ever co-opted to our club I am outta here forever.

I also know that many others that I have spoken to think similarly.

Can the club afford a buffoon like him to decrease our current membership numbers?

I am sure he has some supporters re this rumour but to them I say................go and be a Hawks member.

Just remember Hawthorn could not rid themselves of him quickly enough !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be quite honest, our club has meandered into average and accepted average for to long

this current situation will hopefully create a murderous atmosphere which should bring out the best and help our club become strong again. i dont know if JGK is the answer but i do know we need a strong vibrant and take no prisoners type of leader to walk in and start the ball rolling.

with swift and decisive decisions, weve seen how carlton hit rock bottom and out of thier shame comes g.williams s kernahan. pratt.

they go and get the best recruiter. footy manager . club manager, and now supposedly coach

WE NEED THAT TYPE OF PERSON to take control and make sure every appointment is right

hopefully september will be our starting point for the future of all fans

I'm not against it as I think he would be more level headed at a club he does not follow.

I reckon this is part of the group Schwartz has been saying is coming together

Being a member with constitutional rights to vote on such a proposal would allow you to voice your concerns in a manner that the club could see , "not continuing your membership" shows a derelict approach, by which you advocate the exact reason that you didn't "continue your membership"

Absolute negligence of the highest order.

I would prefer Jeff outlined his policies, plans and strategy before endorsing any spill. However, I give him credit for highlighting the current board and their failures, as opposed to the well worn cliché of blaming the head coach.

Good on you genius.

He already has stated he wants the whole board to stand down. Good strategy.

So your distaste of one individual is greater than your love of the club.

Sad really.

Would depend who else is on his ticket? Argus & Wells would be good addiotions to the board also if he was bringing them in.

Also for me it would be dependent on his plans. re: relocation/merging???

Edit: Plans.

You know the club is on it's knees when people start grasping at straws like Jeff Kennett as a way forward.

Not likely to further fracture the club at all... (eye roll)

So he will run as president solely on getting this board to stand down? You sir, are a complete muppet.

I disagree. When Kennett took over in 2005, while the team wasn't doing well on the field, the financial and membership base that has made them so strong had already been established by Ian Dicker. If Kennett were the man to lead the board after 1996, the Hawks would have imploded. They, like us now, had a lot of bruised egos and disenchanted club figures floating about and they needed a conciliatory figure. Kennett would have poured a jerry can on that bonfire. He was good in 'steady as she goes' times at Hawthorn as his knucklehead statements about the coach could slide. But for him to walk into a club like Melbourne would be flirting with disaster.

Beat me to the Punch Col. Ian Dicker was the man who resurrected Hawthorn. All the hard yards were done prior to Jeff arriving including negotiating a truce and eventual peace between warring factions within the club, something Jeff could never have achieved.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
