Let me state my position again before I post, CC is a mate of mine. That said let me state the following:

Chris bore the brunt of the tanking punishment and we all know he is not the only one who had to be involved. He did so without recrimination. He has lost a year's salary as a result. He has a family to support.

He has been removed from the football side.

He is now in the marketing/membership/fundraising side. He is good at his role. He also does a lot of the community work and he is good at that as well. He is great with people and getting them involved with the MFC.

He is a former player who cares a lot about this club. He wants to see this club successful again and has suffered like few others as a result of the last few years.

I would be more likely to donate again if asked by Chris, someone who knows me and how I feel about the MFC, than some new kid I have never met before and who will leave as soon as he is offered a new job.

You want to build culture, you don't burn the CC's of this world. You use them to the best of their ability as part of the rebuild of this fractured club.

I agree, CC is a typical sales / PR type of person, and I feel he is now in an area that suits him.

Personally i am suprised at this 2 year deal. I would have preferred the Hollywood Boulevard gone completely.

That said i know how good CC has been at FH Dinners and other fund raising.

And by god we are going to need that in the next 3 years so i reckon CC will be busy.

I hope he isn't on good coin to be honest. Happy for him to be at the club, but hope the new deal doesn't overcompensate him for a years loss of earnings.

It's all these extra costs i get concerned about. Was Schwab paid out handsomely ?

By the way, did we ever resolve why Schwab got that personal loan using the clubs funds a few years ago ?

I don't have a problem with this at all. He took a massive hit for the club, and it is doing the right thing and looking after him in turn. He's not going to be involved in the FD, so no concerns with any influence on the team. It's a good outcome.

From the few times ive had a chat with Chris, i found him to be a quality Melbourne person. Happy with the new deal

He is universally very highly regarded, inside and outside the club. David Parkin was ropable when CC was scapegoated by the AFL, but entirely unsurprised when he decided to cop it for the club. I'd be surprised if anybody 'within' football ( not the media) had a bad word say about him.

If we had've tanked, we could blame our poor performance on the dismal culture that tanking left behind.

But, luckily we didn't tank I guess and our culture is great, Neeld is god and welcome back Cuddles.

I only read Redleg's post and angrydee's response and I couldn't agree more. I feel sorry for anyone who wants to give CC the flick. Genuine Club people are hard to come by. It is widely acknowledged now that CC was the fall guy (why wasn't it acknowledged at the time?). We need as many CC's as we can get.

Let me clarify, what Connolly said in the meetings in the "vault" were the only evidence the AFL had to charge Melbourne with. If Connolly never said those words no charges would have been laid (as flimsy as they were).

totally with you Redleg, good people can make mistakes, but that doesn't make them bad...

this club has made mistakes about how its gone about the things it has, that other clubs managed to traverse easily... maybe due to out naivety..

the biggest mistakes the club has made over the last few decades, hasn't been the people its employed, inc Balme & Danners. Its put the people in the wrong roles.
