POST MATCH DISCUSSION

Some amazingly bad skill errors, particularly in disposal. I like Tom Mc, but his kicking is just awful. Appears as if the preseason was all fitness work and no skill development.

Tommy needs some time in the VFL, I'm a big fan but he looks pretty ordinary at the moment and a bit frustrated with himself.

His disposal was dreadful today enough to have me screaming at the TV and my wife leaving the room.

On that note Terlich gets the ball a bit but he gets himself in all sorts of trouble and turns it over more times than not. He has to go with the first option and not try to beat his opponent even time, this is not the SANFL, a good handball is better than a turnover.

not much of a silver lining but we will now get to see if magner can bring his vfl form up to the big leagues

Our effort was good today, our spread when they had the ball was much improved hence why they had to criss cross so often. Our issue is we dont get the ball enough and when we do we turn it over too easily with bad disposal or poor decision making and at no stage did we have a forward target that looked half dangerous.

No question the effort lifted for a little while today, but why is our defence so bad when we've brought in an apparently defensive minded coach?

umm, could it be that the ball goes in frequently and well-directed due to lack of a midfield?

Is this post meant as a positive or a neg BRFE?

If Grimes injury is deemed longterm and Magner gets a well deserved game, Trengrove will be on very shaky ground.

Positives:

- had a crack

- didn't chuck it in

- Viney played on Murphy. Gives him an idea on what to strive for (and Murphy doesn't have the mongrel of Viney)

- Bail only had one opportunity to blaze away at the goals when there were two far better options (rather than 3 crap shots from last week)

- Tapscott tough

- Garland

Negatives

- Grimes injury

- Trengove injury (or whatever it is)

- you cannot continually start McKenzie, Dunn and Jones at the centre bounce and not expect Carlton to get a goal

- McDonald cant kick, McDonald cant kick, McDonald cant kick.

- Strauss is still ordinary one on one, but cant slag off the back line under that kind of onslaught

- could go on

Trengove and Mcdonald both need a stint in the VFL Trengove obviously not right and mcdonald doesn't need his confidence destroyed

More importantly we are trying to build a culture, it's great players are having to force their way in but blokes can't be protected species from going out if they aren't up to it for whatever reason.

I said to my son, Do you want to watch the game? His reply was dad I don't feel like watching Melb lose again. (unfortunately he was right, even I had trouble watching it)

He is 9 years old. This is what the MFC is doing to the next generation of Dees supporters.

Bloody sad if you ask me.

Stop whining! I thought we played much better than any other game this season. What it highlighted to me is that our Ruck has been killing us. Go Spencer!

Yep it is a hard ask to keep my kids interested in melbourne. Hell I find it hard to keep interest. I sign myself and my kids up every year and won't stop no matter what but I gotta be honest I have gone from anger to sadness and now to nothing. I'm very bored of the club at the moment.

A bit of both. Our effort and run is much improved from first rounds. We cant sustain it but we're trying. Our disposal and decision making is appalling which ruins the effort made to get the ball in the first place.

Thanks for your view BRFE but I just cannot see any improvement. That's why we were so behind on tackles - we just couldn't get near them!

If he thinks we're going to win and he STILL doesn't watch, then we've got a problem. Until then, he's only nine.

Yep, summed it up pretty well. We need to get first use of the footy in the middle more often. We will smash any team that we can break even with in clearances. I'm not so worried about a forward target. Stats say we are pretty handy at creating goals from inside 50's, we just need a few more of them. Lot of talk about our back half but any defence is going to get smashed when the ball comes in so quickly and frequently.

Chook, today was the first time he said it. He has watch all previous games which is a credit to him and us.

Not sure what to make of today. First half the intent looked good, we had more inside 50s than Carlton in the entire first half which is a big positive, but we just butchered it so badly. We made some easy things that should have been certain goals look incredibly difficult. Second half was ordinary, but not quite as bad a fade out as we saw earlier in the year, not that that is anything to hang our hats on.

I just done understand how we can still have such a rubbish midfield after all these years collecting high draft picks. As we can all see we still get hammered in the uncontested ball and somehow also in the tackles at the same time.

Another big game for Neeld next week against the Gold Coast.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
