In describing Mitch Clark I like some of the non medical terms they use ( foot issues).

I am concerned one of the scans may have showed a hot spot as another comment alluded to some load concerns.

A hot spot can be the fore runner of a stress fracture or at the least a stress reaction which needs rest .

Obviously this is trying to put medical terminology to coach waffle ( foot issues ) duh!

We had quite a few forward entries - if anything Gawn might have not been getting to the right places.

I wonder if Neeld will use him more tactacly this week - tell him to stay just outside the goals square and maybe have a crumber (Davey/Blease) and Howe around him so when we bomb it to the hots spot Gawn or Howe will mark and if they don't Davey will crumb. I don't see Gawn as much of a leading forward - he may as well use his height advantage and I don't want him kicking from anyfurther than 20m out!

I think Spencer would be one tall to many and he would be at the expence of a midfielder - we need run and carry

I think this is why I expect Watts forward (3rd tall), & may have saved his spot.

Byrnes and Davey have handled themselves well so far this year. It's Rodan and Blease we have to worry about, but there's a chance that the legspeed they bring us might really be helpful this round. Who knows.

IMO we need Blease in for the carlton game, & the following weeks, so this week will tune him up for those following games.

I like Davey as a sub. Has a touch of class and fresh can hurt sides later in matches when perhaps they are tiring. Perhaps not so flash (pardon the pun) as cover for an early injury.

I like using both Davey, & Rodan as Subs: who starts?

I think I'd start with Rodan, as he can influence the inside contests a bit. Davey's run & pace will be useful later in the game as it opens up.

My take is Clarks foot is tired after the initial Injury, & surgery. He's a big guy & the injury/surgery & training will take its toll on a foot which will have lost some of its resilience from the whole trauma. Just as a serious knee injury does, the foot imo will take its time getting back to its best.

This then would put strain on surrounding areas of this foot, in compensating.

I think this is why they have called it a sprained foot. likely tendon type.

Yeah, that was brilliant. But it was only one act for only one goal. Much of the rest of his game on the weekend was dominated by giving away free kicks. The reality is though that when you're a forward, you're either kicking goals or you're wasting your team's good work.

Usually Mitch kicks goals and makes the best of our bad work. Last week he missed goals and messed up a lot of our good work, and that's part of the reason why we played so great in the last quarter.

Sorry to be argumentative, but I'd disagree with this. It's pressure acts, providing a contest and importantly structure. I'll agree, he gave away two or three free kicks, but his leadership is unquestionable. I felt he struggled in the contested marking situation, but he was rarely outmarked and the ball usually fell to the deck.

How often did we really kick it to Gawn last week? All the times that I remember resulted in goals, so the fact that he's still in this week is great. Still, I hope they bring in Spencer to ruck and allow Gawn to spend most of his time at full-forward this week.

Well, we were talking about the final quarter and upon re-watching that the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if roughly 50% of our attacking thrusts in the final quarter were directed at Gawn. Naturally, we didn't need to go there all the time, because our midfielders were kicking goals themselves, but if that midfield pressure is heightened, we'll need a tall target who can take contested marks. I'm glad Gawn proved he can take contested marks (as he should, 209cm isn't he?), which should give Gawn and the guys kicking it into him this week, confidence that he can get the job done.

I wish they'd bring Spencer in to ruck along with Gawn too, but the FD seem to like Jamar. Can't see it happening unfortunately.

Davey is an interesting one. If we win the clearances and can get quality inside 50's Davey will play a good game as a crumbing forward and we will all be happy. If we get smashed in the middle and chip around the boundary from the backline then Davey is useless. If we start well and Davey is the sub it could hurt us. If Davey starts on the ground and we can't get a clearance having Davey down forward instead of Rodan (if he is the sub) getting inside clearances could hurt us. All in all I think it is Jack Watts fault.
