Howe: Another 3 years!

Shaw: Gee that's bad luck, I'd love to see you in Black and White!!!

And I reckon a few others around the footy world would have the same thoughts (different colours maybe)!

There are plenty of nervous nellies who think:

1. We don't have any good players.

2. We cannot attract good players.

3. We can't keep our good players.

It takes a f___ing mental gymnast to straddle all of these natterings at once.

Any team would love Howe because he has a near unstoppable trait with his marking in the air but also contributes in other ways. It makes him the perfect 3rd tall and foil for someone like Cloke.

Come September you need guys who can run, tackle, and play hard football. But more than that you need guys who can rise above that and do something special when the pressure is on. Howe is a guy who can take a mark when no one else of his size and other attributes can.

If he was all flair he'd be perfect for a trade because we'd get good value and draft some more bread and butter types. But he's not all flair, he works damn hard as well. Still has plenty to improve on but you feel he'll get there.

He didn't respond as others were quick to question him about aspects of the game e.g. "what did Neeld say at 3/4 time".(Can't remember his answer - concentrating driving out go MCG car park ).

As for bringing the matter up: I thought Shaw's comment was interesting "and" I thought Howe handled himself well and was pleased to be part of the team!

I have to say this (with tongue in cheek) He is also a Tasmanian..... There are more like him down here if only Melbourne Recruiting staff would take more time to look... They usually do not command as big a salary initially as most "Mainland" draftees do. We have recruited many successful players from down on the little island below Victoria. Howe is a similar player to Russell Robertson....High marking, good kick for goal etc., but I feel he has the capacity to be better than Robbo as he has the ability to play in many positions and is a very hard worker when he spills a mark,(which is not very often). He has a great future at MFC (injury free) He is also a great reader of the play and I am sure there is better to come from Jeremy...

Tony Shaw reminds me of Forrest Gump.... "simpleton" .. Thank the Lord he was only available on the Collingwood Channel, along with Eddie "everywhere" McGuire. That way we never have to watch or listen to the one-eyed "drop kicks".. That way they also get to waffle on with their Collingwood crap and have no one disagree with them as they are amongst misled individuals tarred with the same brush..Please keep them on their own channel forever !!!

On 3aw before he took his mark from the kick-in they were all talking up his ability to mark from whatever position he is in. Richo said he's the best mark in the game.

Tony Shaw said something to the effect that he would be incredibly damaging if they left him one out in the forward 50. It sounds a bit ridiculous as we already have clark up there (and in future hogan / dawes) but I wonder whether this might be a bit of a plan B forward structure in future. If players such as Ablett / Modra managed to hold down FF, I'm sure Howe could. I don't think anyone can match his aerial / marking ability and if they can, they wouldn't have the speed / tank to go with him on the lead.

Most games you'd want to back in your key big men and howe can contribute all over the ground... but wouldn't be a bad ploy to try if the forward line is not functioning.

Howie on the other hand...in terms of his marking people are starting to put him into the Knights/Ablett/Modra bracket of great aerial artists. And to be honest, I think he's going to be remembered better than the lot. I've truly seen noone like him. That mark over Embley was just outrageous, and his one from the kick-in yesterday was almost regulation from him!

Every time we were bad and Malthouse was commentating for Seven he'd say Howe is one player that he can see becoming a special player for us. The one that can do the impossible when needed to spark the team, but at the same time still be a solid contributor.

Howe is a far better contributor than Robbo already: Robbo was one dimensional and didn't/wouldn't/couldn't chase or offer anything defensively, nor up the field. Sure, exciting and a "good club man" but really a one trick pony.

Howe on the other hand is one of very few who drag long-suffering Dee fans, and I must say some "neutrals" as well to watch MFC games.

He is versatile enough to consider even if just occasionally putting him one on one in a "Pagan's paddock" especially if our forward setup isn't functioning well.

Agree Striker. I'm trying to think of players from the past who took regular hangers, and it's great fun remembering them......those you mentioned of course, but also Trevor Barker, our own Robbo and Shaun Smith, Peter Bosustow, Alex Jesaulenko, Michael Roach, the list extends. But Jeremy Howe is just beyond freaky with his predictability, and thus goes beyond anybody I can remember. He actually makes me laugh. And it weirdly makes me slightly anxious, I guess cos it just doesn't seem right, for a player to keep taking marks of the year, week, after week, after week. It just seems wrong I tells ya.......wrong!

I actually don't mind this point from T Shaw (although he is a [censored])- I say that because I thought Clark was good when we were under the pump playing as the loose man (he's a smart, agile footballer Clark) and I think he played the role well

So in future if Clarke does venture back as the loose - Howe 1 out up forward could work

The good thing about Howe is he is actually kicking goals. He is doing more than just taking screamers. His goal kicking has removed.

It's a huge call, but i honestly think of our current group of players at the end of their careers wherever that may be, howe will be the best player of them. or maybe the player who wins the most matches off his own influence
