"Tanking"

Recommended Posts

Billy it is my opinion that if ANY person is charged and goes down for tanking, then the stigma of that will stick for 10-20 years which will effectively kill the club. Forget ever becoming strong.

But if we fight like the Demon Checker Hughes told us we are then we have a chance to get stronger.

Simply mate...it is one in all in for me.

I do not subscribe to the Bahgdad Theory of sucking up to the AFL [censored] when the charges are so shallow.

I agree , we cannot accept any Guilty verdict at all , no-one accepts it , no sacrificial lamb .

we must take it to court . never accept any guilty verdict . no matter what the cost we must fight this all the way

I dont agree it will kill the club to fight , we must fight till we cant anymore , if we accept this we might as well close the doors . sometimes you have to take a stand

and this for me is it , we cant give up anyone to make this go away to appease the AFL.

all not guilty or we take them on in court , simple as that . and push them on it

Of course CC has to agree with any negotiated settlement - he takes one for the club and the board look after him for saving everyone big trouble. NO tanking verdict - just unbecoming statements.

If we are done for tanking, or any individual associated with the club for that matter, then we fight to clear our name.

If CC is done for bringing the game in to disrepute for his imbecilic "joke" about us needing to lose games to "stay the course", then I'm sorry, he can go it alone.

It could end up being a case of CC being responsiblie for the crap we have had to put up with over the past 7 months. I will have no sympathy for him if he faces a life ban.

For me, how far we take this will boil down to who is charged, what the charges are, and what was in that 800-page document.

That's great, a loyal servant of the club makes a joke according to you and you would have no symapthy if he got a life ban. On that basis the Essendon Coaches face death by firing squad.

Like many here I am of the conclusion that, for many reasons, the penalties handed down to us by the AFL will not be overly harsh.

But then if you look at the Bomberblitz board you realise there are many Essendon supporters in serious denial about the trouble they may be in. I can only assume the posters over there are the same passionate supporters as they are here, but perhaps a bit uglier.

I do worry that perhaps I am missing the forest for all the trees

CC goes Fishing with a mate from Warneet very often, thats the desired outcome.

Two things you never trust in life, Politicians and Lawyers, when you complete High School you will understand that.

Gosh, baby boomers who haven't completed high school. Slow learners. Of course if they had gone to uni then they'd be elite leftist w@nkers. Lose lose with you mjt.

So far, the enquiry against the Bombers has not proved to be a Keystone Kops effort.

For those that way inclined, there are some posts on Bigfooty that perhaps suggest where things are, and even, what the hold up is. Speculation, perhaps, but no worse than anything we're not seeing here either. Basically, seems we're playing hard ball on an AFL-proposed compromise.

"Apparently very close to an agreement, possible inclusion if we agree is that the AFL commits to a similar investigation into all other teams suspected of tanking."

"Apparently we're still refusing to make a deal and firmly believe that there isn't enough evidence, keep hearing that we're offering to pay for Bailey's legal representation if it goes to court, which I'm very happy about, many cashed up supporters have come forward to assist with it."

"Melbourne are continuing to turn down the offer, I strongly believe that they will definitely take it to the courts if it goes against them"

with apologies to the Scarlet Pimpernel

They seek us here, they seek us there

Those Inquisitors seek us everywhere

Is Bailey in heaven or is he in hell?

That damned elusive Tanking smell

We meddle with Anderson's Evolution

Tanking games each week

Spoiling every lovely promotion

La, what cheek!

They seek us here, they seek us there

Those Media Hacks seek us everywhere

If you should see them tank, please do give a yell!

That damned elusive Tanking smell

They seek us here, they seek us there

Haddad and Clothier seek us everywhere

Oh, Cuddles, how the Inquisitors do implore you

Simply to stay home in bed

With all your interference

It's a chore to chop your head!

They seek us here, they seek us there

The Inquisitors seek us everywhere!

We give the Inquisitors nothing but frustration

Sink me! We're such a spoilsport

Each and every damned revelation

We cut short

They seek us here, they seek us there

Those pesky Inquisitors seek us everywhere

Is Schwabby in heaven or is he in hell?

That damned elusive Tanking smell

I did the Scarlet Pimpernel in my last year of high school, and aside from this being a great trip down memory lane, that's really cleaver!

Great job!

Guest José Mourinho

I very much doubt we're holding out on the AFL to agree to "investigate all other teams suspected of tanking."

I think we're smarter than that.

It wouldn't take much for them to say no other teams are suspected, or even if any are, have quickly dismissed shallow inquiries.

Nor do I think the AFL will agree to another league wide scandal naming half a dozen teams, indicating some sort of epidemic throughout the league.

It'd only provide more fodder for sycophants like Patrick Smith.

I think we're concerned with our outcome and ours alone.

Carlton getting stung won't make it feel better for us.

Jnr, just interested which pages of the 800-odd that the AFL presented to the MFC have you read?

I'm amazed at how people think that CC is innocent, and that any charges against him should be fought. FMD, joke or no joke, he made comments about ensuring we don't win a certain amount of games, he indicated this on numerous occasions. He is a major reason why we are in this mess, having to put up with a 7-month investigation, yet we want to spend as much money as required to try and clear his name?

I'm sure that will go down well with new/potential sponsors.

Oh you must have read the 800 pages as well and all the references to CC's joke. you have just contradicted yourself

If they had any real evideNce you would have heard about it by now. Fumbling?? NOt playing Watts? really? Is that all you've got??

I have heard all this deal stuff before, and I don't like it.

The ramifications of accepting a deal is enormous.

When you accept a deal people will always assume you are guilty.

The amount of money that would cost us down the track by accepting a guilty verdict would totally destroy our club.

The deal would have to, not involve any hint of guilty.

Just think about the consequences, losing the gaming rights at Bentleigh and Leighoak. Losing sponsorships and supporters.

Unless we are totally exonerated from these charges,we must fight this all the way through the courts.

You'd be pretty dumb to reject anything outright without even knowing what is being discussed. Regardless of the outcome I doubt we'll lose the pokies. I also doubt it will have many long term ramifications. The best thing to do is get this entire situation behind us and get some wins on the board, that will help our long term future far greater than wasting months/years and dollars in the courts will.

If there is a possibility the gaming and drinking licences for our two venues could be at risk, would you fight it?

In reality we will have no choice. Unless Mcloughlin can manufacture a compromise in the next couple of days, get ready for jury selection.

... get ready for jury selection.

And I've always firmly believed that absolutely nothing could make me renounce my love and support for MFC to my dying day. But,... I can see it now, if I'm fortunate to get picked for that jury and asked the question. I will look the judge in the eye and with all the plausibility I can muster, mutter something like "Tige's, your honour!"

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
