This time last year we could have throttled them for stealing Tom Whatsisname but look at this!

Melbourne and GWS cosying up together to do a deal for pick 3/Jesse Hogan:-

Dees circle Hogan

Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni predicted a resolution within the next two days, and Harrington agreed.

I think it's called love.

We're only talking to them because we are interested in one of their friends.

i feel GWS did us a huge favour by taking Mr $cully from our grasp, and to allow us to posssibly grab Hogan with this compensation, BUT.....

get stuffed GWS, there is still no love towards you from me

I think we should play hardball and talk them down to pick 4.

Honestly, I'm a little alarmed at the idea of us giving 3 AND 13 in exchange for a minidraft and pick 20. Do we seriously think there aren't three players in this draft who could even get close to Hogan? Because that is what that trade is saying. Unless we think there's no difference between 13 and 20 in this draft?

Sigh, I just want the anxiety over, collect the solid midfielders available (or the opportunistic slider) and roll on.

I'm not that impressed by Wellingham - he's a good midfielder, not a potential gun.

I don't want to pay too much for Dawes - I'm simply not convinced he's that great.

I don't want to get speculative about 17 year old players.

Basically, I don't see much out there worth messing with our first round picks for.

Maybe I'm just fatigued when it comes to anything that sounds like trying to outsmart ourselves.

I have a good source, Hogan will be a Demon by tomorrow.

We are working on Caddy at 13, if it does not come off then the whole Dawes/Wellingham scenario might gather some momentum.

Trying to off-load Martin and picks for Dawes and picks also.

There are more sources on here than in your average supermarket shelf... careful with that axe Eugene!

Name the source Eugene.

Otherwise it is just another unfounded rumour.

Happy with this - wouldn't even mind Dawes/Wellingham if it came down to it but not for pick 4.

I don't think I can hate someone who has never done anything bad to us... I almost feel sorry for them after the Scully debacle. Almost...

Throttle them for taking that other bloke ? Wanted to buy them a beer !!!

Never have I agreed with so many posters in one article, we are all feeling the love hey?

I'm all for getting Hogan - a gun CHF would be superb, and I know it's that word "potential" but he sounds like a gem to me. As long as we keep pick 4 for another midfield gun like Toumpas or Wines. I hope we're not silly enough to use pick 4 for a Dawes/Wellingham trade. As for Caddy, the guy seems totally overrated to me, and if he doesn't want to come, then let him go to the Cats and see if he can get a game there for the next two years.

It has been fairly widely reported that we want at least one "live" trade in the top 10, i.e., pick 4 (or 3 or whatever is left).

only reservation I have about Hogan is how long it will take for him to do any real damage - 17 year old KPP, gotta be about 5 years off one would think. An 18 year old top draft pick midfielder is generally pretty much ready to go straight away as the last few drafts have shown

Hogan turns 18 in Dec so would be 19 when he hits the ground in 2014, and by all accounts should be cherry ripe by then, after 2 pre-seasons and a year at Casey...

I believe he wants to stay in WA next year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
