Why would we trade the best ruckman on our list for a giant plodder? I'll take Dawes for a third round pick please, or Collingwood can throw in a decent draft pick for us if they want Martin.

Martin is not our best ruckman, he's probably not even third or fourth best being behind Jamar, Clark, Gawn when he's fit, Spencer & even possibly Fitzpatrick in coming years. He's a pretty terrible footballer who can do some athletic things on occasions.

If you take too much notice of many people on here nearly anyone who has been mentioned as a pick up is a spud.Its not as though we are over stacked with power forwards, we have one Clark.The criteria for recruiting someone should be can they improve the side. They don't have to be the next Buddy Franklin

The funny thing is I can't see Collingwood wanting Martin now that Lynch is going there but I guess if they lose Dawes they may want him but I just don't see it.

As much as I joked the other day about Dawes physique he suits Neeld's structure.

I'm somewhat ambivalent as to whether we go for him, or not, but comparing him to Martin is comparing apples and oranges. Martin is a better ruck than forward - and he's no great ruck - and Dawes is a key forward who at 24 is coming into his best years.

Martin's problem is that he'll only ever be an OK ruck and never a decent key forward. Dawes is no world beater, but he has displayed good form on occasions as a key forward. We shouldn't readily dismiss a key forward that has a premiership medallion hanging around his neck who's about to enter his prime.

I expect that Collingwood have picked up Lynch to play the Leigh Brown fwd-ruck role and let Cloke and Dawes resume their successful 2010 roles. I expect Dawes to stay at Collingwood.

Neeld has seen Collingwood's twin-tall forward structure in full motion and I'm sure he wants to replicate it here.

Lynch is out and Tippett will break the bank. Pedersen, Casboult and any others mentioned are depth at best.

It's Dawes or Hogan, I reckon. Wishing for both.

We need a plug and play big forward and Dawes seems to be the only one left. He will play a role and demand a very good opposition defender. No doubt he's looked average this season but so did Cloke for a large majority.
