Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Got me thinking after the trapper thread on how much i miss this bloke! his bone jarring tackles most noteably the bulldog special were one of this trademarks along with his courage and fearless attitude! He was not scared of anyone! i remember he got suspended for belting Brendan Fevola one time and laying a crunching tackle that winded Glenn Archer.

i really do see alot of traits in young neville jetta and would seriously hope they trail him as a small back pocket in the way wheels played!

My favourite Whelan moment was defiently the hird bump!! in todays game he probably got 6 weeks but boy he made sure he hurt them!

Heres to the great man! whats everyones favourite Wrecker moment??

Ummh, absolutely Wheels.

One of my favourites.

And Neita when he was throwing his bulk around.

Lets hope we get a few of them. More than just 1, 2, or 3.

Thanks for this great thread DD36. About six weeks ago was at the MCG for a Club function and Wheels was there. Spoke to him briefly and he is the most unassuming lovely man. Said that our family still watch his Hird bump on You Tube and he grinned from ear to ear and said, "Couldn't have picked a better bloke to do it to." Made my day. When I told son he said, "I miss Wheels."

do you reckon Hird thinks about that bump when he loses to the Dee's two years in a row??? Probably doesn't but I'd like to think so.

Wheels should have got a free for "Face in the back".

Trapper slotted it anyway.

I remember a game lateish in Wrecker's career where he pretty much spear tackled a full steam Buddy Franklin in the middle of the G.

Probably my fave Whelan moment, aside from the Hird one anyway. I'll try and find a vid somewhere.

i remember this. buddy tried to go around him to get onto his left foot - wheels read it like a book and smashed him with a proper rugby tackle. was about 2008. sweetest tackle technique youll ever see.

Words cannot describe how much I agree with the sentiment of this thread. Hits on Crawford and Welsh also come to mind.

So, so reliable. If only some other, more talented, Dees players of his time could have been so relied upon.

A wonderful player who should have been in our 150 Heroes list.

Yep, me too, serious man love for Matty Whelan. That Hird bump is a particuar favourite - I visit it at least twice a year on Youtube. And I agree that Nev Jetta has this streak in him. I just wish he could stay fit enough to use it more.

Matty Whelan is my favourite player from the Dees ever. Extremely tough but fair, skilled player. Pretty underatted.

Got some great memories including flattening Hird in the '04 final. Easily one of the top 5 tacklers in the league in his heyday, possibly number 1. You could always rely on this guy to insert some PAIN into the opposition at important moments.

i also recall some great high marks. he was also a clever player. clever and tough as nails. caught up with him in the end. he's one guy that left it all on the park.

Ahh how could you not love Wrecker? A back pocket that actually did a shut down job.

Loved his tackles that drove blokes nearly twice his size backwards a few metres.

The hit on Hird had a double impact on me, one because it was so awesome, a momentum changer, and two because Hird recovered and pretty much won them the match, so I had a new found respect for him after that.

Didn't they rebuild the Olympic stand because Whelan accidentally ran into the old one?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
