Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lol we're like the unattractive sex tourist. We have a bundle of cash but still nobody will even look at us. I feel sorry for us :(

As opposed to the attractive sex tourist with no money.

Perhaps its our age or the blazer?

Or perhaps our club embodies Hugh Hefner more, we have a large number of younger bodies at our house but they are largely for show as nothing works like it did in the 50's.

I know, but so many rejections already.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Not only do we not (really) know what's going on, even after it's over we won't really know what went on. Or didn't. Or why.

We did really well last year in the trade/draft period, and there's no reason to assume we won't get the best result we can this year as well.

(And people who think you can only build a successful team by drafting stars, should spend an afternoon watching a rerun of the grand final.)

His manager just said he's not going to anyone except for WCE, Freo or Pies. Flick onto Trade Week radio if u can, should clear up your qualms

And if a trade can't be made with those clubs and the Pies can't fit him in the cap then he has a choice to make. Accept that he can't get to the team he wants and sign with us who will more then likely have the best trade for him or go into the draft. His manager can say what he wants but he isn't a free agent.

I think his point was 'stop worrying about whether we're getting mids through FA/trade week, we have our own'.

I don't necessarily agree, but I see his argument.

I'm glad someone understood!

The Australian reports that we have offered him $500k per year, but he is most likely to go to West coast or Freo

Herald sun reports "melbourne are not an option". Winning culture is a big part

This will be our big issue in attempting to lure bigger fish this trade period.

When we got Clark we were on around 8 wins for the season. Which still was something.

I sadly don't expect us to get anything but other clubs slops.

Pessimistic perhaps.

Realistic perhaps.

I hope I am proven wrong.

"Melbourne has never been a discussion point, Sharrod hasn’t even got in front of Melbourne," Da Costa said.

"Winning culture's got to be a big part of it as well."

That line about winning culture cuts deep. As just posted, last year we won 8 games, got a brand new coaching staff etc. so we were able to sell hope and potential. This time around, we are on the bottom, no light in sight, and could not sell anyone on anything other than money. Noone would want to come to Melbourne, and rightly so. Right now we are a crap football club with no light in sight. Our enemies grow stronger, and we still sit at the bottom of the ladder without improving. We will not get anyone this Free Agency/trade period.

Here's hoping we get lucky in the draft and get some superstars, because we're [censored] otherwise.

No wonder joining a club with a winning culture is an important part of the decision for a front-runner like Wellingham. Would be absolutely invisible in a poor side IMO.

Why is this manager talking like Wellingham is a free agent. "He will decide before he flies out"

What is this crap, its up to Collingwood to decide and trade season doesn't start until next week. Talk about the arrogance of some managers.

Almost as rich as Caddy trying to dictate terms.

If a player doesn't want to join us because we don't win enough, and it isn't going to be smooth sailing- then in my eyes that automatically rules them out of contention for a spot on the list. On account of them not having the kind of ethos we are looking for to rebuild our culture.. how ironic!

That's me off the Wellingham bandwagon.

not everyones a melbourne supporter guys. if it was 1996 and you had a choice of being traded to Fitzroy or Carlton , who would you have chosen?! Cmon guys, cant blame the bloke. Anyone whos played a bit of footy knows its no fun chasing jumpers all day. The guy wants success and the highs of winning. of course some blokes will enjoy a challenge of joining an up and coming club , contributing to the success of the place but lets be serious, from an NON Melbourne supporters point of view, the Dees are miles away.

Not quite the same.

Unlike Fitzroy back then, we're not about to merge with an interstate club, we haven't not been able to pay our players and our facilities are a little better then Fitzroy's were. A better comparison may have been Carlton and St Kilda in 1995.

I do agree with the main point you're making though. We're not overly attractive at the moment an there for will struggle to land big fish unless they chase $$$$ or possibly if they were a massive Dees fan growing up? We're going to have to target players outside of other clubs best 22 and grow stars from within IMO.

yes fair point, its important to have an unbiased opinion of the club when trying to analyse the decisions made by the player market this month.

There's no doubt that our culture is evolving and right now we can't argue from a position of strength, but for a manager to so flagrantly and publicly disrespect our club like that makes me livid. And if I was Harrington, et al, I'd be putting Da Costa's name firmly in my memory bank for a future occasion.

Says more about the player than it does about the MFC. Says to me that Sharrod wants to continue riding on the coat tails of better players who are delivering winning performances rather than rise to the challenge of being one of those player himself.

If a prospect does not believe that they can impact and improve the performance of the club they play for, then they are hardly worth the big bickies.

So if Sharrod believes delivering success at MFC is beyond him, then good on Sharrod for admitting it. Next.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
