The club should be cutting all ties now and not help him out with his legal battles anymore.

Especially if it meant Port "looked after us" in a Boak/Jurrah trade. Jurrah and 2nd round pick for Boak. Pretty bloody good deal for them, especially if we help with the court costs.

You must be, because all I feel is dread that he'll tear it apart at Adelaide or Port next year, while we continue to rot at the bottom of the ladder with our mostly talentless list, and our lack of forwards.

Friggin horray!

I just feel like it's one thing we don't have to spend 6 months worrying about now. I'd all but given up hope of a good outcome anyway - I saw it as a long and drawn out car crash still in the process of happening for our club.

I could handle him leaving the AFL for his cultural family reaosns bu tto turn around and play for another club and we get nothing for him, that just plain sucks on his behalf. After everything we have done.

Our cupboards are so bare.

Liam was one of a few special players we have at Melbourne.

"Sigh"

Like I said, it would be a sad day if he quit footy, but it wouldn't shock me.

But he didn't quit footy, he quit our club.

I mean how much more sh*t can we cop? FFS, we have about 4 good players on our list, one has a serious injury to come back from, and the other just quit and will probably pop up at another club without us getting anything in return.

It's not a question of right or wrong. Nor is it a question of who's in the right and who's in the wrong. It's just sad.

None of us can imagine the emotional ties and consequent difficulties for Liam playing in Melbourne and for Melbourne. I wish him luck for the future wherever it is and whatever it brings and thank him for the all too brief joy he provided when he played with us.

Is he under contract till next year?

If so, then any other afl club will have to trade no matter what. Won't they?

Not under contract.

Why do I get the feeling he may be at Collingwood next year? Just a gut feel.

Great, we can spend the next 6 months getting excited about pick 54 that we get for trading him to Port.

Edit: if he was walking away from footy, I'd say "fair enough". It's been a tough road for him, and he's in for a whole lot more pain. But to walk away from our club, after everything we have done for him, is just too hard to swallow.

Jaded he has contributed nothing since late 2011.

I had crossed him off already so don't get too depressed.

He will get picked up with a late draft pick by one of the SA teams

What have they got to lose

Why deal at all Port can just take him with a late pick for nothing. If he comes good fine is not they are no worse off than any other player taken with a late pick

Petterd would be breathing a sigh of releif. May mean an extra chance for him.

Also isn't Aaron Davey meant to be the indiginous ambassador at the club? How could he have not known about something like this?

how could he let it have gotten to a point where the club has no prior notice to make any type of arrangements...

Am I the only one who feels a sense of relief along with the disappointment?

Me too Nash.

Sad to see him go but this will be one less headache and resource consuming element that this club can do without.

All the best LJ.

Enough BS RR, no more conspiracy theories; next you will be telling me the moon landing wasn't real.

There is no point arguing about this.

You may have written him off, but I haven't.

If he goes to another club and dominates, it will kill me a little more each time he plays.

Just another "could have been" for our club.

Depressing stuff.

lack of oversight by Schwabby?

Would have been nice if the MFC had announced it first, or at least appeared to be aware of it...

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
