The AFL are not naive and oblivious to teams with no chance of top 8 deciding to play kids and get established players in for early surgery. Been happening for a long time and will continue to happen. Looking at this behaviour from a certain point of view some would call it "tanking", others "list management", others "prudent preparation for the draft of next year...

They don't like the stigma of the term "Tanking" or the ethos of teams playing for anything other than an immediate win.

Brock will be told that his shouting of the dreaded "T" word on TV was not appreciated by the AFL.

Brock is a [censored] for not realising this.

This 'list management' scenario is wholly different from a coach being given a directive from the brass to take measures to reduce the team's chances of winning in order to secure draft picks.

Such a directive is explicit in its intent and cannot be viewed as anything other than cheating, or tanking to use common parlance.

If McLean doesn't back away or at least soften his allegations the AFL will have no choice but to re-interview Bailey with a please explain.

And who knows what may happen then?

It's a long shot but until the AFL shuts the lid on this once and for all no-one can be certain about what might happen.

To quote yogi bear (Berra)"It's déjà vu all over again".

Bailey opened this can when he was sacked, and the AFL ...

...did nothing.

you gotta love the irony though (if only brocky knew what that was)

leaving because of dee's tanking and going to a club known widely as 'carltank'

of course the journos don't ask the hard questions......yet

let it stew for a while......then they can have tomorrows beatup story....then the next day..etc. that's how it works

mike sheahan really is a little slimey muck-raker who can't be bothered to really research a story

I hope the dees make him persona non grata at the club

I feel sorry for McLean in some way...Sheahan threw out a massive piece of bait and he swallowed it whole.

Dumbest fish in the bay.

So you don't think it was set up from the start. Why would Brock be a guest on the show, he is only a bit part player. Sure he kicked a goal on the weekend but who is really interested in that. He's had a couple of good games lately but again who is interested in that. He's not Judd, Ablett or one of the key players in the game. What did he have to offer?

No, it's more likely they were offered an interview and told if they asked the right questions they would get a scoop. Almost all the questions were aimed at Melbourne very little about Carlton. Not a conspiracy theory here just the reality of the media and ratings and of a show in a crowded market place being relevant particularly when their main competition is off air during the Olympics.

For what purpose as far as Brock goes? who knows but a pretty fair chance that's how it went down.

The AFL won't make an issue of it........

Posted elsewhere, but don't you be so sure of that. I see a conspiracy being set up to strip us of our comp picks and make us pay over the top for Viney if we want him, all to promote the failed GW$ and CG$.

Yes...I am still taking the tablets, but I think the pharmacist is in yet another conspiracy to make people think I am paranoid.

But it was Healy who fired the first shot and why I thought it was so contrived. He fired off with "are you talking about tanking, Brock"?

Gerard Healy is as weak as [censored] too. Can't believe he once played for the Dee's.

doesn't excuse sheahan for not asking brock the hard questions and being a professional journo

this is not the only time recently that sheahan has gratuitously pi55ed on the club he professes to support

i think he has an agenda with cs and/or cc and couldn't give a toss for the club

as for G. Healy, he's already persona non grata and not a journo anyway

If Brock didn't think he had a future under the old regime, there's no way known he'd have a future under the new regime (Neeld).

His card ought be marked 'persona non grata " from here on in as far as the MFC goes.

Doofus is as Doofus does !!

Curious in a fashion that so much vitriol regarding a common tactic is coming from two connected with Sydney. Whats the beef ?

Careful Sheahan, the karma faieries are lining you up.

But unlike Brock, he left for more money, ^_^

I really hope someone points out to him the ludicrousness of leaving Melbourne because tanking conflicted with his principles as "a player and a person", only to move to Carlton. I'm genuinely interested to see what his response would be.

Am I being stupid or can I foresee the AFL taking away our compo picks for scumbag ! ??

What a joke!!! Is there going to be an inquiry, every time an X player has a crack at us...... Tanking is a great excuse for being [censored]!

I doubt that anyone from the club asked Dog McLean, to not try an play his best (didn't have too)..... This is all speculation....

We did not tank, we were/are that bad...

Still opportunistic, muckraking journalism at a 'soft' target - I reckon they deliberately manipulated and confused McLean.

Yep - I do believe it was set up from the start, but not to the extent McLean expected.

On AW now - talking sanctions but saying they are impractical because Cwood, Eagles, Blues also implicated.

Sheahan suggesting amnesty

Gosh, if playing players out of position is tanking, looks like Neeld was tanking when (in desperation probably) he's been trying a third of our regular back line up forward. Will coaches of weaker clubs think twice before trying something radical in case someone cries 'tanking'.
