Watts 20 disposals, 4 goals. Looks like he took being dropped in the right way, too good to languish in VFL, should be back in the seniors.

Next week:

IN: Watts & Jurrah (as sub)

OUT: Dunn & whoever doesn't play their role this week

I'd love to see Petterd, Blease and Bennel playing well back in the senior team, but want to see them playing consistently in the bests at Casey. All 3 have potential to be very good AFL players, but their deficiencies are holding them back. Let's hope these 3 develop and come on asap!

Another week (if Casey don't have a bye next week) wont do Watts any harm get some consistency into him and maybe just maybe make him realise after a few weeks out. When I get my chance again I am going to grab it. To early a call on Jurrah

He really needs to earn his promotion to the senior team, moreso than others, in my book.

Why does he need to earn it MORESO THAN OTHERS? The players should all be judged equally. What draft pick or how you came onto our list is irrelevant.

Watts cops so much stick from the media, opposition supporters, and even our own it seems. It's downright ridiculous. He had a poor game last week, other than that he has been one of our best thus far this year. While that isn't saying much, he sure as [censored] didn't deserve to be dropped ahead of others. Today he played on the wing and picked up 20 touches and 4 goals. That's a great return. He should be playing at Melbourne next week and the remainder of the year. No point him sitting in the VFL and performing well. We get nothing out of it. If he isn't back in the team next week, then we can write off Neeld and the new coaching panel as fools. They've done a great job so far :(

Again, well done to Casey on their good win today. Great turn around from that horrible day last year. Shame about some of those injuries!

Interestingly, I thought that whether fair or not, the head was sacrosanct, and would be protected.

Head high contact, if reasonably avoided, results in suspensions.

It's that simple.

Or has the rule changed? Again?

According to the powers that be, if it results in forceful contact to the head it is not fair. That is the justification for Trengove being outed for three weeks. The same principal should apply here. According to the article, Viney had just taken possession of the ball, so he had the option to tackle and chose not to. Everything the AFL has said regarding high contact in the last few years says he has to be reported and suspended.

For his own bloody good.

Because he needs to learn to be harder at the contested footy for his own development, and we need to set the bar higher for Watts than for other players.

You're obviously happy with him continuing to just coast along at that level, when he could be so much more.

Fair enough... the following was tweeted by MelbourneFC:

"On the Jack Viney bump, it appeared Wojo collected him in shoulder/head region. Looked hard but fair at time."

Sorry LT, I should have queried this as well. I agree that it's just wrong to impose different standards on players simply because of ones' own unrealistic expectations. As I've said on a few posts, I don't think we have a more talented (and I'm not even saying 'potentially talented') player than Jack Watts and his continued development is crucial for our future success. On the other hand, I think that in the absence of extreme circumstances, any dropped players have to earn their place back by demonstrating the required levels of consistency that the coaching group demands. Otherwise, it sts a poor example for the rest of the squad and at the end of the dat, the squad is everything.

Will be very interesting if there is some footage of the bump. I still can't fathom how that WC player got off from his hit on Sylvia in Pre-season last year.

Jordan Gysberts and Jack Viney both gone to hospital with suspected broken jaws.

twitter on the MFC website said that Viney also suspected broken jaw as well.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
