Billy, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your actual position, but you made two statements:

"The main issue (from what I can understand) is that the MFC didn't do appropriate background checks ..."

You used the word "that", implying fact. It's not "that", it's "whether" i.e. "The main issue is whether the MFC did appropriate background checks ...". The different meaning ought to be obvious.

In another statement, you said:

"Melbourne Victory, like the Melbourne Football Club, I would've thought would have done appropriate background checks. Both should be professional enough to ensure this won't happen again in the future."

Again, there's the acceptance that they didn't, when we just don't know. Hence my conclusion that it seemed to be your position.

If you want your position to be interpreted differently, be more careful with the words you use.

Back on the topic of sponsorships. I spoke to a mate at footy training last night, He works at the Dees. He told me Melbourne are trying to get Kaspersky back on board at a discounted rate. He told me it will be announced soon.

We are like that Paula Abdul song- one step forward, two steps back.

So embarrassing!

Opposites Attract - I just googled the lyrics. You could be onto something:

"I take things serious

And you take 'em light"

"Our friends are sayin'

We ain't gonna last

Cuz I move slowly"

"Baby ain't it somethin'

How we lasted this long

You and me

Provin' everyone wrong

Don't think we'll ever

Get our differences patched"

Did he happen to mention how discounted? I know they sponsor Manly but have no idea what amount...

Major sponsor or more minor?

He said as a Major sponsor. He didn't know the size of the discount.

If the club had any clue how to do a proper background check, they wouldn't need to look at a facebook page now would they. Surely this Pollis's character would have come out if we were thorough. But alas, we have let another one deceive us.

We couldn't find it in Scully, now we couldn't find it in Pollis. The question has to be asked, are the people running our club the best candidates? We sure have our problems at the moment don't we. And we aim to become an elite club, LOL.

there is a difference between sitting down with someone who is quirky and left of centre and accepting their money and someone who holds repugnant views. Maybe he did not espouse his repugnant views at the time (damn sure he didnt).

If anyone has read Steve Jobs' book - I wonder if we would steer clear of his money ? He comes across not much different from this dude in his left of centre entrance into the business world and some of his dealings. The difference is that Jobs wasnt a racist or sexist - but he did display whacko tendancies.

If that is the case, and we sign them on for less, then that should just about be CS marching orders. I'm not having a go at trying to obtain sponsors, more so the fact that we would have gone backwards. Wasn't it CS who stated that he wasn't going to undersell the MFC brand? Oh dear!

It seems to me that Cam is now in panic mode and is trying to save his job. It seems too little too late if you choose to believe rumours on SEN that the board is set to give him the arse sometime in the not too distant future.

Perhaps if he had shown as much tenacity and dedication to obtaining sponsors 6 months ago, as opposed to seemingly sitting on his arse designing special guernseys, we wouldn't be in the situation we are now. Maybe we would've been only needing to get only 1 sponsor as opposed to 2.

Steve Jobs also had Hardware behind him that grew...

I have a book about the growth of Macintosh that was published in the late 80's.

When Mac was Big, but not life Changing....Fascinating..Jobs was always Left Field, but he did have vision.

Polis is just a con man...His Business is a paper trail.

A good con man does that, they talk...people get taken...Happened to me about 13 years ago.

A "mate" hooked me into a scheme...and i got burnt..not critical, but it cost me about 5 years to pay off just to get back to zero...

I am very suss on these people since then...Does EW actually have office space we can visit or just a postal address??

Let's try not to be too sensitive here people.

This is a forum full of the most victimised, touchy, paranoid people on Earth - Melbourne supporters.

Let's not treat regular Landers like they are on a School Holidays Flamethrowing Mission.

Got plenty of those at the moment...

How dare you talk about me like that-I'm suing everybody for racism and victimisation.

Get Mifsud on the line !!!

He can break as many sponsorships as he wants, but if this Phoenix activity proves correct that will be the end of EW and Polis himself.

Except the facebook status updates in question dated back as far as 2010, and most pre-dated the EW sponsorship deal...

likewise, it wouldnt be energy watch kind of money, but at least it would be clean.

Why do you say that?

They are another dot.com selection company working in Airfares/Hotel brokering rather than energy

Not saying they aren't clean but just curious how you would know

I dare say CS and the board would inspect everything ten-fold this time around.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
