I know it's not my place to be making suggestions but I'd love to see the funeral held at the MCG on Saturday arvo or Sunday so we can all show our respect to a legend.

Afl website says that his Family has accepted the state governments offer of a state funeral. Date and venue to be sorted out later.

I feel terribly sad for his young kids and they wouldn't get from him what the MFC, and Melbourne community at large got from him through Reach.

As a kid I wore no. 11 as it was worn by my favourite players from Greg Wells, to Steven Icke to Jimmy.

I met Jimmy once on the beach at Rye and he was always one for a chat. Of the many footballers I have spoken to, he is the only one that I thought that I would be a better person if I emulated him just a little.

Yep there will be a big Dees crowd that will come out against Brissie.

It was one of Jim's main wishes for the MFC to hit 40,000 members. I reckon the club should let the dust settle and allow people to mourn, but tell those who are yet to sign up, if you're ever going to do it, now is the time. Honour Jim's legacy by reaching the goal he set for us.

Jim was a true legend and I can only hope that he is rightfully elevated to legend status in the hall of fame this year. There could be no one more deserving.

Rest In Peace Jimmy For a person I only met a few times and probably shared no more than a dozen words with, I am absolutely devastated that you are gone... I feel like I've lost a family member. That said though, I am glad that you are now at peace.

Very rarely do we get the chance to meet people who are so selfless and are able to change the world for the better in their life-time... and we (The MFC) were lucky that one of those rare individuals was one of us.

Not only did you get this club back on track, all whilst fighting your own battle... but you also changed the lives of thousands of people through your Reach Foundation. Physically you may be gone... but your spirit will live on into eternity at our club. NO-ONE will EVER let your memory and all that you did for our club be forgotten. NO-ONE!

If you are looking for reason and positives from such a tragic and sad day, this final act from Jim will hopefully unite us and provide direction in a time when the club seems so lost. After such a positive off season, problems started arising with troubles with jurrah, more big losses, injuries and other issues, Jims passing gives the club vision and a real purpose to start performing. The players, administration, board, staff and supporters owe so much to the great man, hopefully we can gain some belief and power to direct us into the future.

He cannot be replaced and never forgotten.

I'm on my final warning at my workplace for taking too many sick days after recent tragidy stuck my family- so it looks like I will be updating the resume and saying so long to my heartless employer!

We will give them hell in round 1 for Jimmy and it will hopefully set the tone for what will be a tribute season to the great man. If our team can replicate an ounce of Jimmy's determination and endeavour we will be unstoppable.

I consider myself lucky to have followed, met and shared an interest with such a great person.

A truly great human being once took the time to come over and initiate a conversation with me, a new president, left me with a feeling of warmth, and a faith in where this club would go. It was a moment I'll never forget, and now look back on and truly cherish.

I will think of Jimmy whenever I'm challenged, and I'll give my all to that challenge right until the end.

I've always thought if I could be fondly remembered by a few people when I'm gone, then I'd be happy with that.

Jimmy would be over the moon with the universal out pouring of love for him, and his family.

He has left behind a gigantic footprint, a life that will be admired and never forgotten.

Condolences to his family, and everyone who has felt his passing.

plus another 20,000 melbourne supporters

plus at least a few thousand AFL supporters in general to say good bye to arguably the biggest influential person ever to step foot near the AFL.
