20 year old from suburban footy given a huge chance?

I smell a Disney movie!

But I will defer to those at training once again for how he has fared and any comparisons to share.

Luke Williams?!?

Luke Williams was a HBF from the Daniher years that Dees fans loved to deride as the reason we were so awful...well every second year...

I hope Leigh doesn't have a similar fate.

I hope this is the same player I saw at training last week at Casey. He is very powerfully built and the highlight was his marking in the body-on-body marking contests. He seemed to have confidence and aggression in bucket loads. Time will tell but I am hopeful.

Took some great marks against Garland in a practice match training. Looks good and is just a bit older at 21

He is one big unit, it will be interesting to see his body shape changes over the next few months, at the moment he has rugby player legs, two big tree trucks

Sounds very exciting as a prospect - there must be a huge leap from suburban footy to AFL, but then I guess the Howe boy from Dodge's Ferry this season showed that it can be done.

At least he sounds like a mature bodied player.

Good luck.

I will watch and listen with enormous interest.

There seems very little downside in picking him up, like Howe.

Haven't seen much of him. But just reading some comments, particularly from those who have seen him play is enough to take notice and follow him with interest.

All potential at this stage, But he has age on his side, lets hope his similarities to Pods are realised while he is Melbourne listed,

Didn't Pods spend time at a similar age on the Bulldogs and Essendons lists before dominating the VFL and exploding at Geelong....

A bloke rang up SEN to say Jack Redpath, rookied by the Dogs at about 60, was going to "tear the competition apart" and was going to be a "superstar". Obviously not an opinion shared by the recruiting staff at the 18 clubs who passed on him at the myriad previous drafting opportunities?

My point?

The proof of the pudding is on the horns of a dilemma.

Might be a good idea if the footy world waits a while before pronouncing superstardom status on redrafted and rookied players.

That said, I like that we went to big players and clearance players.

Grunt is good.

Highlights are up on DeeTV

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/dee%20tv/tabid/8667/default.aspx#playvideo#playvideo#playvideo

Has good pace on the lead and great pair of hands, but obviously his opposition is far less than he will experience at AFL level. Decent kick on him as well

He will find out just how big the step up is: we will see if he can make that step!

JPod #2 would be nice, however improbable

Howe made a somewhat similar step reasonably well

Still, the opportunity and the huge chalenge is there for him and good luck to him

Regardless of the step up, with those sticky fingers of his, I think he is well on the way. He seems to be quite a solid unit as well, which means he should be able to stand his ground in a contest.

Howe actually was recruited from the Hobart Football Club in the statewide comp down here in Tassie. Same club as Aaron Hall who just got picked up in the PSD by the Gold Coast. Hobart pulled him from Dodges Ferry I believe.... (might have lived down that way too, not sure)

That's true. But even recruiting from Hobart is a fair step down from the VFL. I'd say there wouldn't be much between the best defenders that Howe was up against and the best that Williams was up against.

The EFL isnt a bad league, a lot of ex and retired afl players play their.

Division 1 EFL is right up there as one of the best suburban leagues in Victoria. A massive step up though, hopefully he can do it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
