Gotta love the quality Journalism here. "Melbourne Demons approach" is the head line, later on it's mentioned by their only source, Kennett, that the approach is from "concerned powerbrokers, not those currently employed by the clubs concerned."

So it could be Gutnik for all they know.

How does that equate to a MFC approach?

Unless the so-called "powerbrokers" are named, it's a stupid article that belongs in the Hun, not the Australian.

Just noticed the author, Denham. Figures.
Somebody at Melbourne must have gotten up this sleazebag's goat because he was on about us again yesterday on radio with the three month old story about Cam Schwab allegedly getting the sack the night before 186 back in July. It's old news that has yet to be verified as true and even if it was, most Melbourne people would now agree that the changes made at the club instead of that outcome have been infinitely better than "venom" Denham was suggesting.

Why he's so obsessed with us, I don't know.

Journalists often talk about issues in the electronic media one day to set up their subsequent article the next day, or later in the week.

What a joke of an article.

Any chance to remind people of our record of not making finals and not winning many games.

Also states Schwab was sacked on the Friday before the Geelong game. Has this ever been confirmed - I doubt it.

One of the most unbalanced articles I have read. And I would say the same thing if the references had have been against Richmond.

What a [censored].

I hope that 2012 is the dawn of a fresh and successful era at our club so we dont have to listen to this crud.

In short, Denham's article could be a lot shorter:

  • A headline
  • A repeat of the headline
  • A contradictory, ahem, confirmation from Kennett which, on one hand, reveals he has had approaches from clubs, and on the other hand, reveals that those approaches were from concerned powerbrokers not currently employed by clubs.
  • Background and old news, some of which is tangentially relevant
  • A separate story about the Hawthorn elections
  • (A note about Red Adair).

WTF -"Kennett refused to confirm or deny the offer from highly placed influential supporters of Melbourne, "

Don't let that get in the way of a good beat-up......dead-set drop-kick dick-head.

My question is why and whose bright idea was it to approach Jeff. Of course Jeff wouldnt do it. He isnt a melbourne person. Its like Frank Costa being president of another club or Eddie. Jeff was on SEN this morning talking about it. But if I was Jeff Id reject it to.

At the time of Baileys sacking it was well reported in the news that Cameron was going to get the sack, instead he got another year and Dean got sacked.

KB told Greg to get off melbourne supporters backs and leave the club alone.

All we can do is next year is to get into the finals and shut people up.

Harden the F up all of you!

I will and do defend this club to the hilt but you have to understand how insecure you come across taking such offense at what a nothing jouno, for a nothing paper says about us.

Water off this ducks back. I don't care about outside perception. I care about what we do on and off the field. All else including other hack's opinions in inconsequential to me!

Really bizarre idea whoever decided to approach him. I get the feeling that being a club president is something you have to be passionate about, much like coaching, and it consumes you 24/7 (which is why many would be concerned about Jimmy still being a the helm), so of course Kennett wouldn't be a be right for us.

I hope, and it doesn't sound like, any current Melbourne board members were the ones asking him, not who we need.

EDIT:

And on Denham, he does seem to have some kind of beef with Melbourne and TBH i think until we win 4 premierships in a row and come away with a $20 million profit, he will still talk down our club. Even then he'll probably say we got it through tanking! Have stopped listening to Hungry For Sport between 9-10am because of him and Patrick-don't-let-the-truth-get-in-the-way-Smith.

If there is a grain of truth in it, it was probably Jeffry having a few too many sherbets at the Army & Navy Club discussing the end of his term as president with Hawthorn with some inebriated disaffected Dees supporter of some dubious celebrity who said offhandedly to Jeff that he aught to come down to MFC and clean up the place. More of a throw away line than anything of import.

But hey, if you can sensationalise it why bother with reporting accuracy. This is the Australian after all.

The first thing - the only really important thing - to understand here is the workings of a mind like Kennett's.

He wants always to be at the centre of events and he will distort reality to suit his purpose.

It's clear from Denham's article that this approach Kennett speaks of was not by anyone with official standing.

So what's happened then? It could be something as loose as an old Demon supporting mate of Jeff's saying: "you know we really could use someone like you at Melbourne".

In Jeff's head this becomes an approach to head the club. He tells Denham, who everyone here seems not to know once worked at a paper that matters (The Age), and Denham turns it to his own devices.

The story, like Seinfeld, is a tale about nothing.

Incidentally, Denham's best contacts are with WA clubs. He is no authority on us.

Congratulations.

Thank you.

And if you are being sarcastic you should get a little more confidence about you. It's very liberating being solely focused on how you do what you do :P

I understand the desire not to react to crap, but I am eager to know what tossbag at the club or around the periphery decided that it was a good idea to:

1. Talk to Kennett.

2. Offer him anything...anything at all, let alone the Presidency.

Got to be honest, I haven't read the article.

But that's hardly a shock lol.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
