Makes me wonder. If TS decided to make the right decision (arguable), what might the future have held for any of these guys ? Perhaps they were always going to be required players.

The other thing is, if the club has narrowed the new coaching position down to a specific coach, yet unannounced, has there been some input into renewals or even possible trades ?

If they're so intent on being aggressive in the trade period as they have communicated, it will be interesting to see them walk the walk and who they offer as trade to get someone in.

For those that listened carefully to the Presser today re Scully either Schwab or McLardy said "we've signed all our other players".

For those that like to read things into things and particularly that there is something rotten at the club the fact that Scully had to be offered so much to leave and everyone else is signed rather puts those theories to bed I would have thought.

Completely agree.

Sylvia and Martin could've chased bigger $$ / bigger roles / a better environment anywhere, but they chose to sign on.

I like the way we've handled all of this.

Land me a big coach Dees, c'mon!

I am surprised we singed Morton prior to the trade period. We cant trade him now which is (in my opinion) a bad result (subject to him getting an offer which was interesting).

Aside from Warnock, who can we trade?

We need to do something this trade period.......don't we??

Morton has had a bad year, his value would be way lower than what he could potentially become. A new coach could get out of him what we've seen in glimpses. Good move.

You can still trade a contracted player, they just have to agree to terms at the other club too.

I'd say Bate and Dunn are most definitely on the table.

Good decision to re-sign Cale.

He is quick, covers the ground, knows where the ball is going, but needs to learn the contact aspects.

That last is down to coaching, personal confidence and confidence in the game plan.

Most young players come into the competition a little tentative. They can kick, mark, run, etc, but need to be taught footy is a big boy's game and that they need to know how to approach a contest. Cale, in my opinion, has been poorly coached in how to win tough footy. Had he been at, say, Collingwood Malthouse would have worked on his pressure skills and he would already be aware of how to attack a contest.

Also, when players have confidence in the game plan, they automatically do the right thing. They know that if they are going to cop heat, they can give it to a person in a better position. Strikes me that Calelacks confidence approaching the ball, because he doesn't know what he has to do once he gets it.

Badly needs a new and better coach whose emphasis is on footy as a contact sport.

Great news about Martin. I'm surprised by Morton. But I guess we should thank him because he said he would wait until the end of the season and he did and re-signed. I thought he may want a fresh start somewhere else. But a new coach just may be good for him. I will hold my judgement until round 1.

... he just needs to get through the pre-season unscathed. Which could be a challenge in itself, Cale has a habit of picking those unexpected "My finger broke when it got caught in a training vest" type injuries ...

Nothing to do with the specific players re contracted. But why would we re-sign players before we have a coach. Wouldn't it be better letting the new coach work out who stays and goes??

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
