MFC Presser at 2 PM on SEN

Sir Why You Little

Recommended Posts

Maybe. But only unprecedented compensation would be regarded as comfort. Seeing as they apparently upped the ante and he gets $2 million in first year (which is more than Ablett apparently).

Pick 1 and 'mid first rounder' would soften the blow. :)

You have my vote.

Age, contract salary, contract length, draft position... All factors point to compensation a lot BETTER than what was received for Ablett.

That's what i reckon...Ablett is on the home straight of his career now...Long Straight i admit!! but GW Bastards could have a Gun Midfielder for over a decade.

We deserve TOP Compensation, & nothing less

Hell yes, and my vote.

Won't hold my breath though.

Hold your breath, because if it's in the rules we should be afforded it!

If we want to start being bold, these are the things we should act on.

If the AFL are going to shaft us we should have a heated protest on AFL HQ steps!!

Well if it's in the rules, hold your breath! Are we going to let them shaft us again? I call for a heated protest on AFL HQ steps if they try to [censored] us!

I don't know if this has been mentioned however I found it interesting that Schwab mentioned that the Dees had signed all other un-contracted players. I'm sure he stated that in the first few minutes of the press conference.

He did.

Might've only meant the required ones, but he clearly said 'in the meantime we've signed all our uncontracted players'

Yes - slip of the tongue. Signing all of the uncontracted players would be monumentally stupid. I also take it to mean a number of players have been given their DCM's.

The $2.0m for year 1 now confirms in my mind what an obscenity has been developed by Demetriou. He should be ashamed.

You would think so... I mean how could a player deserve nearly what Demetriou is on

I hope OX doensn't jib it and asks the hard quetsions and presses Scully.

I'm not sure whether you mean the expansion of the competition, the uncontracted players issue or the compensation formula, but I doubt much of it was actually "developed by Demetriou". I'm certain the expansion was an AFL Commission decision, of which Demetriou is just one vote and didn't the clubs support the proposal for access to uncontracted players? And if I recall correctly a sub-committee of club officials, I think including Cameron Schwab, developed the compensation formula.

What I find particularly interesting, though, is the respective attitudes of MFC and GWS. MFC doesn't want to compromise its relationship with its other players by paying over the odds. GWS has taken the alternative approach and decided that mercenaries will be paid significantly more than homegrown talent. If Scully doesn't deliver, not only will GWS have blown a large amount of cash, it will have other players wondering why their contracts are comparatively skinny. Long term contracts sometimes work (Judd) and sometimes don't (Mercuri) and are a high risk strategy.I know which club I'd rather be managing.

GWS (like the GCS) will get lots of first-year players on base rates. They'll get older, near-retired discards from other clubs on similar bargain levels while they build a team. Forward-paying Scully $2m in his first year will most likely be well within their cap for 2012. Then it'll be $4m for the next five years, which is $800,000 a year and quite manageable under the likely new player deal.

Im looking foward to hearing what Garry has to say tonight on Footy Classified seeing as Tom was one of the people that he rang. Im sure Hutchy and Caro will get into him.

I don't think Garry will hold back tonight, He will be speaking as a Footy Department Rep & an ex Captain of the MFC. We have all been kicked hard today.

Garry will stand up I have Faith.

Get Better....Get Stronger.

I have created a new account just for you Darren. Hopefully the mods will extend me this lattitude.

Don't you get it? When Patrick Smith says the football industry lies 24/7 he means EVERYONE. Not only arch-villains like Tom Scully but our very own CEO who has to get up there in front of the lights to explain it all.

Everyone in the industry has to lie almost all of the time because Andrew Bloody Demetriou has fostered a climate in which ... if one's interests are to be upheld ... they have to.

Schwab and co knew what this result would be a long, long time ago. His knew what his answers during this press conference would be a long, long time ago.

A long, long time ago. Get it?

The bludgeon and the smelling salts clearly weren't enough for you. Wake up man!

Answer me this. Why did GWS up there offer this week to 6 years and a larger amount front loaded?

Answer me this. Why did GWS up there offer this week to 6 years and a larger amount front loaded?

Because they can, Do you think the AFL would have stopped them??

You can't blame Tom for this....But i can blame the AFL....They knew we were going to get shafted, probably 2 years ago, which is why the Fat Controller did not make any Tanking Accusations...We were already going to cop it.

This is why the MFC must make this day a day to remember....This is the "Off field" Line in the Sand.

Never Forget.

We should all be prepared to be disappointed when the AFL announce the "compensation" picks

We WILL get done over

WYL - You need your own bootcamp thread.

Seriously. Create it and type all the emotion you can into it. It would be a great read for a few.

You can even reply to yourself ~!

You could call it - Line In the Sand or Get Better..Get Stronger.

Would be a real hit.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
