This would have to be up there with the best wins in 10 yrs or more. In the face of adversity, with a team of no names, we smacked the smugness off all those cocky Bomber fans and their million dollar coaching staff. How sweet it is!! Very proud!

I guess this thread, if nothing else, debunks the myth about Dees supporters always being up at the snow instead of attending games. It's obvious we are all globetrotting... Kenya, Thailand, UK, France, Virgin Islands...

haha..a fellow Canberran. Welcome.

And I'm a semi-Canberran... out-posted in Sydney, so I have to make regular trips to Canberra for my work.

For all my fellow dees os or interstate, was a great atmosphere at the game. Dees supporters were loud, proud and (at the end) kinda arrogant. I loved it. Very young but very talented side. We will have some more yo yo performances, no doubt. But there is a bit of steel with these young guys to match the talent. And our supporters have a bit of spring in their step. If we can keep improving, keep mving forward, who knows where this group will ultimately take us. But for now, yessssssssss u beauty.

Never like it when the winning team waves off the other supporters but gee I loved it tonight when the Bummers were all leaving early and the Dee fans were waving as one.

I hate the Bummers so much. Woo hoo.

Oh and Sean Wellman - you picked the wrong side ha ha ha

The fact that it was those smug pricks just makes it that much sweeter. That club is just smarmy from the coach to the admin to their fans. Take that, Britneys.

Agree.

Victory never tasted so sweet. Knocking off these pricks is more satisfying than beating Collingwood. Well to me it is anyway.

I'm hoarse from screaming at the game. HELL YES

I sounded like Caroline Wilson after the game, trust me.

I´ll add to the international flavour of this thread. Woke up in Bucaramanga, Colombia to tune into ABC online and find the dees crusing to victory in the last quarter. Been reading all the articles and and threads on here since. Hope we can maintain this kind of effort for the rest of the year.

my throat is sooo sore from yelling at the game. I was behind the goals in the essendon cheer section...I was one of the only dees! Those idiots behind me constantly chanting rehearsed bits like soccer fans through out the whole game. stuck it right up 'em though!!! GREAT STUFF DEE's!!!

I watched it at an Aussie pub in Clapham, London.... predominantly smug Essendon crowd who were just delightfully shell-shocked at the result.

LOVE BEATING THE BOMBERS!... more than any other team.

Jordie Mckenzie's intensity noticeably stood out...

I think Howe might be my new favourite player...

...and I personally raised the roof when Beamer kicked that long goal in the last minute....

Cracking win.... chew on that one bombers! I still count 8 out of our best 22 players not there.... who cares about next week... I'm reading every damn article I can find about this win and savouring every word!

It was immensely satisfying to wipe that smug smile off Hird's face.

The joy of Bailey and the team on the siren was palpable and even brought a tear or two to my eyes.

Ahh the joy of victory.. makes the pain of last week seem but a memory however I wonder had we not had all that criticism last week would we have got up for that performance? One would hope so but you just never know which Melbourne will turn up..

please call us soft every week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your right! But this wasn't driven by the players. It was driven by the supporters who were Incensed out of our Apathy! It's not the coach, or coaches down through the Generations that makes us lose.

It's our kindness, and Nice meaning well to do attitude that softens our players. see comfort zone.

Anger X Fear = Effort & Intensity!

Watched it and taped it up here in Canberra.

Went last week to that awful thing - came down on the wrong weekend...

But I'll be down for QB of course.

Can I just say - never saw Hird do/say anything when the cameras panned to him...

Does he have Thompson, Wellman, and co. in a different box actually coaching the team or something?

Bad luck - the Carlton game was pretty ordinary. Hopefully you're not a jinx :P

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
