On record? Signed off on a lawfully binded contract?

The more I read into it, the less I'm convinced anyone else is bidding. These uber-professional organisations don't have time for petty mind games I would've thought.

I'm now more interested in these secret deals that a few posters have been talking about. Would be great to have a prior agreement to trade our pick 3 to the GWS for the first pick in the mini draft, allowing us to get Viney with our 2nd round.

Can someone, perhaps Jose, Old55 or RP can tell me what the field of ELIGIBLE 17 year olds will be like, and where they would rate in the draft proper. I can be convinced...

Secret deals, what a load of rubbish, we are all talking about what ifs, here is another what if, what if our team continues its current form wins 5-6 more games and we finish 13th/14th then we don't have to wqorry about giving up pick three. Jack Viney will be a Demon next year

Im actually starting to think that neither GWS or GC will seriously bid for him with their prized 1st and 2nd picks. I would think there are more tempting offering for both of these clubs. Id be starting to think that maybe a club other than these two maybe tempted depending upon their needs to possibly try to grab him as some sort of bargain in the 5-10 range but then we could exercise pick 12. Leaving 3 and 4 free to use as desired elsewhere. This might possibly compromise some folks thinking in terms of Boak.

The more i think about it...some sort of deal involving pick 3 seems likely. I dont think we will be any worse of for it, it might just secure most of what we want out of this draft. Keep in mind I doubt we will get everythig we're plannnig on , but then how oftern do you get it.

In a prefect Demon world we would get Jack for 23. I just cant see the gods ( or devils ) aligning to allow such a cushy ride.

With still 10 games to go and a Demons side appearing to play with more cohesion and understanding of the game plan I can see us catching up to both Port and the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs do not play GWS or GC again nor Melb or Port so they are playing only those teams ahead of them on the ladder at the moment. And they only have one genuine "Home" game from now till the end of the season - againist Sydney at Etihad - all other home games against teams which play regularly at Etihad.

As for Port, it doesn't play Gold Coast again and plays these teams that Melb does not play again - Geelong, Essendon, Hawthorn, West Coast.

And isn't Port missing its whole leadership group at the moment? If we beat them in Darwin in three weeks time the No 3 Pick is no certainty.

12 or whatever pick it is will be a compo pick and not use for F & S, if another club bids he falls through to our next draft pick which will be a second round pick.

They may have said this to squeeze a deal out of us. That's exactly what I would do if I was them - tell everyone "we'll bid for Viney" and then do a secret deal with MFC to not bid - that guarantees them a benefit they wouldn't otherwise get.

I hope we take a 'Wines' & a 'Hogan' (U-17 thru GWS), or 'Stringer' ( who I can see as a tall Mid as well as forward), with our 1st & comp picks.

Wines, sounds to me like the "Craig Bradley" type we've been needing for years at this club.

Stringer sounds like a "Koutifides" type, with a bit more strength forward.

--------------------------

Type to show some balls Dees, & call they're bluff.

GCSuns will surely take Whitfield, Stringer or Wines.

Apparently GWS giants needs the ruck. Brodie Grundy, or they will also go for a Wines or Stringer.

IF by chance they GWS/GCS did nominate Viney, then they would have to wear it & we get to draft Wines, Stringer, an O'Rourke @ around 13, and a Matthew Haynes or a Sam Colquhoun with our 2nd Rnder...

# If neither clubs call his name, we get him @ our 2nd Rnd Pick.

I'll give you another 'what if' - what if we win 5-6 more games but PA win 3-4 more games and WB and BL win 2-3 more games?

We will finish 16th...

On what you saw today ?

Good grief man. Even Wines speaks in awe of Viney. And Viney was clearly rusty coming off a 6 week break from a broken jaw. Viney is exactly the inside quality mid we need. Based on their history you'd choose Viney.

I absolutely love Toumpas' class, movement and poise. Being the SA captain he'd add to the quality type of people we're developing. And there's no doubt that Garlett is really special. I don't know where he fits in from a draft perspective, but he looks better than Yarran who went at 6.

I have absolutely no doubt we'll pick Viney and never regret doing so.

It's all guesswork and hot air.

Seems pretty certain we'll pick Viney wherever we have to. Hard to get something for nothing. Second round is not what he's worth, so I'd be happy to have a potentially great player who is just what we need and is super keen to join us.

I'd rather that than another kid who leaves at the first chance when a lot of $ is put in front of them.

To paraphrase Paul Keating, "Never stand between a greedy high draft pick and a big bag of money".

If there is better at 3/4 and there is, we should take them, its plain and simple.

The only situation we dont benefit in, is if we take Viney at 3, so we take him second round.

If not, we let Kev have him and we get Whitfield/Grundy or Thoumpas.

What if 6 weeks from the draft - we see him as a top 3 prospect?

What I want to know is whether it is absolutely iron-clad that if GWS bid for JV first round and we say we'd take someone else first round and JV second round, that it's then compulsory for GWS to take him with their first pick? Is there any wriggle room at all for the AFL to allow GWS to bid for him, then take someone else with their first round and then JV with their second round pick?

Is there any risk at all that Vlad could wave it through retrospectively as another "stroke of genius"? Or is that a bridge too far even for Vlad?

Has it ever happened before that a FS pick has been successfully "outbid" by another club?

Whatever happens, I think Viney will be a Dee with our 2nd round pick.

GWS & GC arnt going to risk bidding there picks. They will try and get something out of us though.

GC and GWS only have 1 first round pick? Correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm pretty sure I am but why would they take him away from us when they could be missing out on a much better player in terms of what the club needs! Baffles me this bidding, its all foxing, plain and simply foxing

I don't trust Sheedy 'jd'. He knows how to hold a grudge . He will want something and may want to do some sort of backroom deal . GC are possibly not a great concern .

This is assuming we finish 16th , of course . That may not happen but it's the most likely scenario .

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
