How did you arrive at that conclusion?

Great to see McKenzie in the 1s this week.

Is Campbell playing in the Casey reserves?

Is that why Cook was named at full forward?

Does where a player is named actually mean anything these days?

The Casey reserves have a bye but will play a practice game against local club Cranbourne as a curtain raiser to the seniors game at Casey Fields.

Kick off at 11am. The Melbourne-listed players featuring in the practice game are Robert Campbell, Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston.

That's a shame; thanks for letting me know.

I have no problem with our arrangement with Casey, if you look at that team it is basically a Melbourne Reserves side with Casey top up players. We have 15 Melbourne players named to play, this will come down to 14, you would expect Jetta to replace Trengove.

Hopefully it is a nice day, it will be a good match, we have 6 players that we drafted last year playing, Gawn from the year before, add in Blease, Strauss, Mckenzie, Jetta, Morton we have all our fit and available players in the seniors. Davis, Campbell are coming back from injury and Johnston is the only guys that aren't playing.

Dastardly clever cryptanalysis skills. How many of us could have seen the 'c' and the 'o' in MacDonald and the 'o' and 'k' in Stockdale and worked out Casey's real plan is to play Cook in the backline.

Of course not but if that's the case how did this poster decide that

  • Cook was going to be played down back, and
  • If he was going to be played down back, it was due to Fevola being in the team.

I think cook spent a fair bit of last weeks game in the back line.

Not sure why but the week before it was obvious that we had too many big guys in the forward line.

That looks to be the case again at Casey.

I think there is a very good chance Cook will spend some time in the back line again.

I'll be going to the Casey to report on the game in KC's absence (he's up in Queensland visiting the folks). I will keep an special eye out for Cook and let you know.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Cook playing in the backline at this stage of his development. Fevola will only play 1 year for casey minus matches missed for injury.(No more than 16 games) Then Cook can have full forward having learnt some important defensive skill's. I've got a feeling we may see Cook in the seniors at some stage during 2011, along with Howe, Evans, Nicholson and Blease. Exciting times. We're 4 -5 years away from our best but I reckon it'll be pretty good.

Picking up Robbie Campbell could be a fantastic get for the Dees due to Jamar and his injuries (although his 2010 year was injury-free!).

Hope Robbie picks up the pace a bit and his footy gets better as the weeks progress! With Gawn still far too raw for AFL level (unless we're in dire straits which we're ALMOST in), a Stef Martin / R. Campbell combo is far better than Martin/Newton, I feel. Plus with Campbell's MASSIVE frame he'd be quite handy fully fit.

All the best to McKenzie too! Hope he has a ripper. Bendigo Bombers will be quite unlike Frankston whereby EVERYONE looked awesome. A real test.

I've heard Cook has been played down in defense a bit. It's a shame as he was recruited as a tall target key-position CHF in years to come for the Dees.

Why's that a bad thing?

It's great for his development.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Cook may well turn out to be a CHB, who can Pinch hit forward. He's a tad slow in leg speed but is Magnificent in spotting up Targets with foot passing, and reading the play. He's a bit slight to be a Power Forward and slow for a mobile one. IMO he'll fill out to be a good prospect as a great CHB.

IMO Tom McDonald reminds me a bit of the older version of David Schwartz.

I think also that Howe can be a tall running back who can be a very good mobile Medium Tall Forward.

I'm happy the way we recruited our talls last year.

Well, I liked this... funniest thing I've seen on this site in a long time.

Cook's been playing in defence lately.

Gotch has said that we've had to move our forwards, like Cook, into other positions to accommodate FEv.

I must add that the VFL reserves fixture is an absolute nightmare to work out.

The Casey Scorpions have already had one bye earlier in the season and have a bye this week and again next week. That's three byes in their first eight rounds.

They played their first and only home game for the season a fortnight ago when they beat Frankston by over 100 points. Their next two games after the byes are away from home so they don't play their second home game for the year until the mid-point of the season in round 11.

The reserves have played five games this year, two of them against the Northern Bullants and, of course, both of them have been away games.

Even in tomorrow's practice game against Cranbourne at Casey Fields there's no home ground advantage because the two clubs share the venue although there has been some controversy locally about that because the powers that be want the Cranbourne team to play on ovals other than the main ground. I don't want to buy into that particular issue but it's good to see the two clubs co-operating in holding this game and I wish that there was more of it in the area.

The two byes in a row would have severely hampered the return of players coming back from injury like Jordie McKenzie, Robert Campbell and youngsters Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston so it's good to have a local club like Cranbourne coming in to lend support.

Over the years of VFL alignments with both Sandringham and Casey, many players began their rehabilitation from injuries in the reserves sides and rather than dump alignments, we will be better off strengthening the local areas and teams in order to improve the standards of our lists and our support base.

I thought he started his career on a wing then went backwards

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
