  1. You need to loosen up DC. Married ex-politicians who lose their pants whilst on overseas trips are always fair game and in the spirit of this thread. The Truth Newspaper was always good fun as well. Always had the best footy stories and good old Jack Dyer's column. What happened to it?
  2. Greg Denham should have an absolute field day on SEN pontificating on how disgusting it is for an AFL footballer to be a passenger in a vehicle at 6.45 am on a Sunday morning in October and how this heinous crime reflects the poor culture of the Melbourne Football Club which Jeff Kennett would have fixed up in five minutes flat.
  3. How interesting that Clark made the decision in our favour after saying he wanted to end up at Fremantle. Good for us - we have a key position forward who is also good in the ruck. He is a player made for the way the game is played with versatile forward/rucks.
  4. There's nothing wrong with working girls my friend. They have to earn their money like everyone else. The song's about the fact that everyone has a price including people looking for a story like Hutchy at the airport. I thought the way the panel on the Sunday Footy Show particularly Brereton questioned Scully's motives made it look as if they'd been set up to look stupid and he got himself a cheap story at their expense no matter which way you look at it.
  5. It seems to me that if we want Butcher and are in a position to pay what he's worth then we need to: 1. Convince him and his management that his future lies at the MFC, and 2. Come up with a decent trade that would attract Port's interest. Now, we would appear to be well off for ruckmen while Port's Dean Brogan retires after the weekend. On that basis, I believe that one of our ruckmen plus a draft pick might be a reasonable basis for negotiations.
  6. Good luck Aussie. He's probably come back a couple of weeks too late. He'll probably start in the Casey twos and will have little time to get match fitness before the season's over.
  7. My take on this is that the club wouldn't be playing him if he hadn't agreed by now to stay on. Therefore, he is staying, has signed on and will be a Demon for many years to come.
  8. I thought Anthony had some position at the club and also is involved in finance broking.
  9. I don't know much about how conditioning players and teams works but there must be a lesson in this about how Essendon went about things during the pre season. From the get go in the NAB Cup the Bombers looked sharp. They were fast and strong, killed it in the midfield and had the players to finish it all off. They did well to make the Grand Final of that competition Then we looked at their draw and they had a tough start to the season including the two grand finallists) which they negotiated very well. Five games against teams in the 2010 top eight - Bulldogs (big win), Swans in Sydney (narrow loss), St. Kilda (thrashed them), Carlton (honourable draw after losing two players in Q1) and Collingwood (with them till the last 10 minutes). Then came three big wins including that 15 goal first quarter v Suns and wins over WCE and the Lions. They've completely fallen off the pace since then. They look slow, hesitant and lack confidence. Jobe Watson has gone from Brownlow contender to hamstrung and the three big men policy that looked so good early has become a liability. Next week, the play Geelong so the pain is likely to continue. Incidentally, I'm glad that our FD decided not to go with three ruckmen. Maxy's time will come but the three ruckmen policy is a loser.
  10. I think you've missed the point which is that Scully hasn't announced a decision one way or another, the game is not completed and the Ablett "precedent" is not a precedent that the so called "umpire" has made and which must be used in the event that Scully or any other player goes to GWS. We all bemoan the absence of a Plan B in case the team does badly in a game of football. What WJ has outlined is a possible Plan B in case we can't secure our players and which appears to be within existing AFL rules. It's also one that can get the sympathy of the media and the public if put properly. We should be promoting it and not poo hooing the concept.
  11. So it seems to me that every time we have a poor run there's a temptation for someone to open a thread calling for Dean Bailey to be sacked and then, after a while, we reach the stage where the debate rolls on aimlessly for a few days. In the end, the decision on the coach will be made by others and we don't really have much influence on the outcome. It's Monday night now folks. We've got a new game in four day's time. Surely we would be better off leaving last Friday and start discussing the next game instead of throwing up the same tired old complaints about what DB did on Friday night? I vote we close all Sack Bailey threads at midnight and move on!
  12. Is that why Cook was named at full forward?
  13. I reckon we rename each end of the ground "The Jack Trengove End" and create two large banners to be placed there during the game. Whichever way anybody looks they will notice Jack's name.
  14. On Twitter: What he/she said!!! Have a good one Mr. President
  15. Or better still, why not an analysis player by player, club by club to demonstrate why the Jay Clark Phantom is so RS?
  16. You're right. He should get on with his life but the comments attributed to him indicate the opposite and the apology that he comes from a broken home is inadequate. The "get out of jail" comment is a metaphor for using excuses instead of facing up to the fact that he wasn't good enough for the AFL. That should not be a crime, even around here.
  17. Pathetic. Give him a get out of jail free card for errant behaviour because he did it tough as a kid. There are lots of others who have had worse things happen in their lives and who still know how to discern between right and wrong and can own up to their own failings and be honest about admitting to them. Maybe the kid should just grow up?
  18. Does anyone know what went wrong between Jesse White and Sydney? The kid looked like he was going to take the world by storm and then was dropped in the finals. Strange.
  19. No remorse. That's good. More damages if the Bulldogs and their lawyers get onto you.
  20. To even suggest something like this in the absence of any proof is inappropriate and would be highly offensive to the Bulldogs and their players. You should withdraw that remark.
  21. If the story about Miller taking a job at the club are true, you'll still have the opportunity to see plenty of her. Correction ... you'll have the opportunity to see her plenty more times.
  22. Apologies. I thought you might have been able to work it out yourself. In the Lovett case, St. Kilda dumped an unwanted player with baggage whose cost would have hurt the club for the length of his contract. It has been suggested that this is what the Lions are also trying to achieve with Fev. I merely pointed out the differences between the two situations (which you acknowledge) to suggest that Brisbane are going to find it much harder to dump their player, especially if he's found not guilty or if there's no case to answer in the first place.
  23. Had you read my post properly you might have noticed that is exactly the point I'm making (I started off by saying, "[T]here is a difference here"). Lovett's was a case where St. Kilda successfully terminated a player's contract and seems to have therefore removed the player payment burden from it's shoulders. In Fevola's case, that is what the cynics are saying the Lions are eager to achieve. As I pointed out, the circumstances are different and they might well not get away with the plan (if indeed, that's the outcome they wanted to achieve when the news first broke).
