Scully out

While I agree with your second point as knee injuries can be chronic and could bring down Scully's value, I doubt the knee issue is a result of going too hard on the track.

I'm no doctor but I've been in rehab with the same injury that Tom suffered pre-draft (I think my patella fracture was more severe than his), since Jan 2010. Unfortunately with that type of injury you sometimes have good days when you feel you can go harder, but ultimately your body won't physically allow you to push yourself if the knee is injured. Even if you want to push through the pain, you physically don't have strength or control in the knee to do it.

I hope Tom hasn't gone and developed tendinitis like I have, because that is apparently a 2 year injury, but I've been told it's rare to develop one because of the other.

In summary knees suck and I hope poor Tom can get himself right ASAP but sadly it's not the type of injury you can rush or magically cure.

This is not good news for him (or you). No doubt there will be a lot of discussion about his knee now.

Lets hope its not too serious for his sake. Talk of his future will now be on hold as well.

I have a feeling this will be longer thatn 4 weeks.

It will probably be 6 weeks, as we have the bye in Round 5. Starting to be very greatful of the timing of our first bye.

I'm pretty sure he missed the draft camp as well, because of a similar problem in his knee. Get him right MFC, we can't afford to have TS be riddled with knee problems, if we are to become a serious threat for premierships.

Sceptics might suggest GWS may distance themselves from one with a degenerative knee problem.

Not just the sceptics for cool $1M a year you want someone that there will be little doubt they will be on the park for 22+ games.

If he misses 6 + games this year with a recurrent knee injury its a big risk for any team investing that amount of money.

In my view he wont be in the mix for GWS now until this is resolved fully, the irony is the pressure it puts on to Eddie who was quick to try and destabalise us.

Thomas and Pendlebury have just gone up the GWS must have list.

Any one else feel as though Robbie Campbell has been "6-8 weeks away" for quite some time?

These injury lists can be pretty vague when it comes to determining when a player will return. Jordie probably won't even play in the first half of the year...

Jnr. Mac would be handy around about now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's with all the wrist-slashing? We all know he's going to be a champion, but he isn't yet - and this is a seriously small setback in his development. This doesn't make James McDonald look any handier to me. This is an opportunity for a Gysberts or Tapscott to step up. I for one was wondering how to squeeze games in to these guys - here's chance #1.

This is a minor disappointment at worst, and even then it's one that has silver lining.

Robert Campbell 6-8 weeks away,LOL,to think we got rid of a fit PJ !!!

Someone explain Bailey's logic, neither are guns and never will be but at least PJ is fit some of the time.

PJ is currently out injured with a foot-injury carried over from last year, and hasn't featured in any of the Hawks pre-season matches. Pretty much in the same boat as Campbell in terms of footy played/preparation for the season. Nil-all draw

Our kicking efficiency just went up for 4 weeks.

Oh snap.

We were unaware of this injury. Not too happy about it either.

Those sceptics might also say that if we look after him with this injury, it would make it harder for him to leave.

Don't know if anyone watched Cam Schwab's broadcast on Ustream today, but it doesn't sound all that serious. Said that if he was a senior player with a more mature body, they might have played him through it (or words to that effect).

Player management as much as anything by the sounds of it, not wanting a small problem to turn into a more serious and long-term one.

Dodgy a few weeks ago, gets played and is now out for 4 weeks. Might not be serious but not sure it was managed well enough but who am I to judge.

HT already let the cat out of the bag with reference to GWS and he may be correct there.

So Scully only has 18 games left in red and blue at best?

I seriously doubt we are talking about the same magnitude of injury here, afterall he completed a whole pre season, I can barely climb a set of stairs

I suppose what I was trying to get across is that sometimes these injuries just keep on kicking your arse, especially if the problem is tendon-related (the fracture is healed by now obviously). He could have inflammation of the tendon or "the fat pad" (no idea what the real medical term is), but there are lots of treatment options for someone in Scully's position that us mere mortals don't get as much exposure to (or can't afford).

If the club already ruled him out for four weeks, then my guess is that he will be getting injected with an anti inflammatory drug or with blood or plasma cells, as those treatments require 2 weeks of non-activity afterwards.

In any case, better safe than chronic tendinitis. Seriously!!!

Posted

I mean, yeah, it's a blow, but I don't think he was 100% fit anyway...

Posted

Surely he shouldn't have played those two practice matches after missing due to knee soreness earlier?

20-20 hindsight is a wonderful thing; obviously they thought he was probably ok to play and that he needed a run before the season proper. Maybe he pulled up ok after the first game so he was considered right for the next. You can't help bad luck I suppose. At least all of the doomsayers will be able to get a glimpse of what their future will be like without Scully... the rest of us will get an idea of what depth we have in the department of youth.

Recruiting RC was a total waste of time.

Crap. I knew about Scully, but to see McKenzie's out for 6 weeks with a groin injury is utterly depressing.

I'm not going to let MFCSS take over, but when I see groin, 6 weeks, and the word pubic in close contact, the natural thing is to think about...well, you know. I'm truly hoping it's not that bad.

Scully won't play for us until at least Round 7 I reckon. 1-4 are no chance, bye in 5, trip to Perth in 6 so I would say Casey beckons rounds 5-6.

Posted

4 weeks for a patella injury is nothing. Try 15 months!!!! Ugh.

Poor Tom, I feel for him. Knees are motherf'ing bastards! :(

Yeah, my knees are shithouse as well - the reactions I get when I talk about (three) dislocated patellas are pretty funny.

Hopefully Scully will be back on the 'G before the bye.

Pray tell who we could have got instead. RC has cost us next to nothing, is a chance to play eventually and in the meantime is a valuable resource when it comes to passing on tips and tricks to up and comers like Gawn, Fitzpatrick etc... he is a premiership ruckman and he has been involved in clinics training kids. Not a waste of time at all if you bother to look at the bigger picture.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
