Gysberts

Recommended Posts

Had a wonderful first game.

Great at winning the ball and very clean with his disposal.

Going to be a gem!

Early days, but the Brock trade is already looking like a master-stroke.

I think Dustin Martin will get it this week. Given that the Tige's won and he apparantly played ok. Dont think he has had it yet.

I recjon you will be right. They love to give it to a winning team and the Toigs wont get many more opportunities.

The great thing about Gysberts game was that he was so composed in traffic against the best midfield in the game.

Tough initiation, that's for sure. Held up well under the circumstances. Very pleasing debut.

And Ten were right, at the opening bounce Gysberts lined up next to Ablett. The matchup didn't last long though of course.

Top effort from the Young Gysberts today. Well Done.

Showed courage & did not look at all over awed. Jack Watts could learn a little from our Pick 11.

Did the OX proud wearing the number 5 Today. Lets hope he is a 200+ game Player

I hope Carlton watched the Game....Brock for the Gysbert.......Yes i think so. B)

yep, a shining light, looks like a smart footballer, got to the right places.

Correct me if i am wrong, but Martin copped a guilty charge at the tribunal which makes him ineligable to win the RS, can he still get nominated though.. hope so for his sake and the tigers sake..

he can definately get nominated, but can not win the award, another tiger who might be nominated this week is Ben Nason

I thought Gysberts made a very impressive debut in very tough circumstances

There is no rellavance between pick 11 and Brock McLean

Brock isnt at the club anymore so why persist in something that doesnt mean anything to the MFC

Gysberts needs to back up his performance to get a rising star nomination IMO

Has the formation of a GREAT midfield begun ?

Tapscott is next up and i can't wait

Its awesome reading our young players we have up coming to represent Melbourne in the future. And lol at people mentioning "Viney" and "Tapscott", has everyone forgotten about Sam Blease? I've seen some footage of him playing and looked incredible. The spread of players we have to look to is amazing. Our midfield and back line are pretty much set in stone, can't wait to see our forward line develop as a core with Watts, Jurrah, Aussie, Bennell, Tapscott roaming up there.

Hrm.

He stood next to him as the ball was bounced, by the time the ruckmen got a hand to it he was 5 metres away from him. He wasn't told to got with Ablett at all IMO.

Great debut though, exciting stuff. He'll love the G with the boys.

Thought so too. Some of his work in close and his evasiveness a couple of times just solidified for me his likeness to Pendlebury.

Apparently, S.Wellman has likened him to a Joel Corey. (After the bounce)

Gys was fantastic. One of his handballs at one stage today reminded me of Scully. Lightening and I think it went to Sylvia who set up one of our scoring shots.

Can't wait to see him line up next week against Carlton. Who the hell goes out? I know who I'd take out, but I doubt it'll happen.

This is the value of the Club recruiting the "best available" and picking 4 midifielders with picks 1,2,11,18.

There were many who said we should have taken a KPF for needs when there was no KPF there as best available. Some even touted Talia!!

Some really good decisions made by MFC over the past 2 years and its bearing fruit.

On the contrary! Every relevance in the world. We got pick 11 (Gysberts) because McLean departed the MFC, and pick 11 was the payment.

Relevant. And, great work by the MFC...!

My thoughts exactly RR. Do any of the "draft experts" out there still want Talia or Black instead of Gysberts???? I couldn't be bothered trawling through the threads in response to the draft but I'll bet there a few posts in there hurling abuse at Prendergast who are now singing the praises of Jordan.

This is really interesting. Just two examples (remember these were written before the draft:

Jack Fitzpatrick (Western Jets, VIC)

Height: 201cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 26/06/91

Recruited from: Wyndhamvale

Agile and quick for his size, Fitzpatrick can also play down back and in attack. He has been regarded as a potential first-rounder through to early third round.

Draft range: 10-35

Max Gawn (Sandringham Dragons, VIC)

Height: 206cm, Weight: 97kg, DOB: 28/12/91

Recruited from: Ormond

Sustained a knee injury before this year's under-18 championships, but still looms as a top-50 selection. Gawn could be taken as early as the second-round.

Draft range: 20-60

Luke Tapscott (North Adelaide, SA)

Height: 180cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 28/06/91

Recruited from: Orroroo

Regarded by many as the best kick in this year's draft pool. A powerful midfielder/forward in the mould of Daniel Rich, he looks set to be a first-rounder.

Draft range: 6-18

Clearly we got the pick of the bunch. The Club should get the highest possible praise for this. A superb job. No wonder people are excited!

I must admit- you have been consistent with the above. However do you agree we need talls now in either established talls or young talls.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
