Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am a little concerned about the times being run.  I have no idea what the industry standard is these days, but several years ago the media experts were saying that an AFL midfielder needed to do the 3km in around the 9.30  mark.  From the sound of it we only have a few players who can crack 10 minutes.  Assuming that the goalposts haven't moved this is a bad sign and shows we're still going to struggle against sides that can run.

i've always thought that a player running sub-10 minute 3km TT's is doing very well.

According to this: http://www.topendsports.com/sport/afl/testing-draft-results-best.htm

Only 10 guys have run sub 9:50 3km at the draft camps and that's when they are skinny 18 year olds often with 10+kg to put on to hit peak footballing condition.

Our inside midfielders probably aren't top of the league but they can run. Jones - yes. Viney - just on willpower alone. Tyson - improving and yet to do back to back preseasons. Vince, Lewis - solid veterans. Brayshaw - seemed to run in low 10 minutes and improving big time this year. Petracca and Oliver are going to take some time, which is why we've got a guy like ANB I guess.

Our backline has plenty of guys who can run - McDonald's, White, Wagner, Hunt. Salem improving.

Probably the most important position in terms of 3km running is for the outside mids. Bugg won it. Looks like Stretch didn't compete after being in rehab, the 4kg of muscle might have temporarily slowed him down but he's a very good runner. Melksham is another who can play wing or half back and is solid. Harmes the same. Adding other players who can run the lines outside should be a priority for the draft.

I'll go with bulky, there's no fat there he is in great condition.

Very pleased with ANB, there has been talk about his tank and this will go some way towards disproving this.

'disproving' he hasn't got a goodwon; or, improving his weak tank?

Was anyone there at all? I know a lot of the information has come from the club website, but just interested to hear who the stragglers were. normally there's a ruck or big forward who's not suited to the longer stuff but puts in then brings up their breaky at the end of the run?

Not sure where they finished or what order R&Br, but smashed avocado & caffeine were seen littered all along the track.

Sub 10min for an AFL footballer (who has to carry plenty of muscle) is elite.....  at any club.  Also, last year the majority of guys shaved a lot of time off by the end of pre-season as you'd expect.

Was it actually 3km or a time trial around Princes Park, which is 3.2km?

Good question. I recall this is where we have done trials in the past and you couldn't compare with other club 3k runs because of the slightly longer distance.

No-one sprints 3km in a real match. It's a stop start game. So in one sense the times are meaningless.

But the times are a personal barometer for their fitness levels and this is much more important.

I don't know why everyone finds the 3km time trials so important???

There is 4 months to go until we play in the fair dinkum stuff.   I reckon I could get fairly fit in four months.......Well maybe not but I don't have the age....the personal training....the indivdual training.....5 days a week training....ect   ect    ect

I'd be guessing they finish 200 mtr's shorter than where they started so it is exactly 3km's.

There is never any excuse for an MFC footballer to commence the season in top shape and fully fit allowing for injuries

I just cannot understand previous seasons when fitness was an ongoing issue and people readily accepted it.

Bizzare!!!!

Not 'elite' fit you couldn't. These guys are already crazy fit, but need to get the 4 mths of preseason in to get that extra fitness to improve

It's purely for performance management. Setting a baseline so Misson and his team can tailor individual programs.

We don't need to know your lap time. What we need to know is whether you ran a personal best.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
