Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tigers massive winners & Crows massive loosers if that were to occur.

They would know they'd have to cough up a first rounder, so i think regardless that's the price they'd expect to have to pay to get Motlop

Why would they do it young Millera will be a better player long term because he possesses an appetite for hard work. On top of that Betts and Cameron are their current small forwards.  The Crows are aware they need midfield depth and they would also be aware Motlop is not the player they need

Not sure, but they were all over him last year despite knowing they were likely bringing in Milera so i can only imagine that opinion won't have changed.

After being told several times to improve his professionalism last year he turned up to pre season training this year overweight and unfit,

his form this year has been well below the expectations of a player on his money and of his talent and i've also heard and i am sure others will confirm that he's not well liked within the group. He's not the sort of influence we want anywhere near our talented young group, i think recruiting him could be an awful decision.

I'd like him.

For the right deal.

What's the right deal RB?

Motlop & Kersten for a 2017 2nd round pick and other pick swapping shenanigans like our 3rd for their 4th?

Which then frees us up to trade Dawes, Dunn and Steak Knives to Brisbane for Pearce Hanley?  or Dawes to WCE (instead of Petrie)

I'd take him if he didn't cost much. A change of environment and coaching staff might get him back on track. If he could regain his 2015 form he'd become a march winner and be exact type of outside class and goal kicking power we need. If Geelong shop him off cheap we should grab him. Not for a first rounder though.

His best is brilliant but he was a liability against Sydney and almost cost Geelong the game against Hawthorn.

As they won by two points. His first shot on the boundary was the matchwinner, his second unnecessary shot was the liability that almost cost them the game. If he didn't take the risk of  shooting for the 7 point win or missing for a 2point lead with hawk kick in, then he gambles on a throw-in on two occasions with the lead at 1 point. I think everyone knew the Hawks would have the last shot on goal, and so that one behind he kicked was vital.

One of the non-negotiable of the last few years for our recruiters has been competitiveness. I doubt Motlop fits the bill

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the Cats don't have many indigenous afl players. Our club does, we also have a leader in Neville Jetta. We may have the right club environment for him to fit in and work hard amongst his peers. We did for Jeff Garlett.

All sounds pretty believable.

Similar reports were made about Jeff Garlett;but he came a lot cheaper than Motlop would. .

I do worry that if Geelong isn't the right environment for him, how is ours going to be better?  One thing that you can't query with the Cats is their leadership and culture.

As others have noted, his type is exactly what we need...but gee he can go missing.  He had an ordinary finals series but I remember his 2011 finals series was superb and he had a damn good year last year.  I'm pretty sure the Cats signed him  to a good deal last year so he would not only cost a first rounder but a fair chunk of salary, although we must have loads of cap space for the next couple of years.

They've had Varcoe, Stokes and Christensen whilst Motlop has been there.

I think it's a bad generalisation to suggest a senior Indigenous player can turn around others. No doubt it could help but every player is still different and I don't think just because of their race you can group them together.

Garlett needed a fresh start and had a great 2015 but he was shocking this year.

Motlop was certainly overweight in preseason but his first 6 weeks or so of this year were fantastic. His decision making and effort just seemed to spiral off as the season went on.

Whilst Motlop at his best would bring a lot of speed and skill to our team I don't think he's a priority. He isn't a hard running wingman nor is he a forward pressure player. He's kind of an inbetween forward/midfielder and I like the options we have there with rotating mids like the Dogs do.

It's well spoken about by all indigenous players that there is a comraderie and brotherhood with each other. That's not discounting the comraderie they have with non-indigenous players, it's just recognising that they all speak of a special bond with one another. As it stands, Geelong only have a younger player in Nakia Cockatoo. I'm not attributing any turn around solely to indigenous leaders, but it's part of the group dynamic that can help foster a strong culture and Neville Jetta is a community leader and disciplined and consistent afl player who can mentor others in regards to defensive pressure and work ethic.

Did we not just give Garlett a three year contract.

Hard to see room for both Motlop and Garlett.

If we could get him at the right price, we'd have plenty of room for both. Half forward is one of our most troublesome positions IMO. The evidence is the yoyoing of Kennedy, Harmes and evem Gartlett in and out of the senior side. Kent is also not a consistent footballer, but seems to be a favourite of the FD and did kick his PB this year.

I'm a yes on Motlop, but have no idea what we'd trade to get him.

Their culture has been well spoken about over the years, and they've got some wonderful players and experienced heads. But where were all of the players under the top 6 on the weekend, why didn't they show up? You do have to question the leadership of their club if their mid-lower tier of players go missing so often though. Just as we do with the Dees. Do they really have an excellent culture if they're really a 10th placed team without one player? Selwood might lead by example, but he sure does a lot of sooking and complaining to the umpires when things don't go his way. They're not the team they were 5 years ago and have plenty of players who aren't living up to standards consistently.

After their weekend performance, I wouldn't be surprised if they become a mid table side for the next few years, and we accelerate past them.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
