  1. If anyone is feeling a little down, go the Big Footy Hawthorn page reviewing the game. They are a mite unhappy. And if that doesnt cheer you up, todays was Hawthorns lowest score against Melbourne since 1960.

  2. Goodwin 1, Critics 0. The numerous posters who moaned about team selection were confounded. Hore proved the ideal substitute in the circumstances and Petty's versatility shored up the defence after the exits of May and Lever. And Goody's defensive blanket set-up in the first quarter forced the Hawks to go sideways more often than a crab. It's true the opposition weren't great, but for once we had a game plan that worked perfectly.

  3. We did what we had to when required, in the face of a scruffy opposition and hot and cold umpiring. Trac, however, was consistently a class above. A win is a win is a win and a strong finish is what good teams do. PS I think the Fox commentators may have given Hawthorn the 4 points !

  4. Slap yourself twice for saying that beating Hawthorn by over 50 points is nothing to get satisfied about. Need I remind you that it wasn’t long ago that they were smashing us and we were the dreadful side? Never take success for granted.

  5. ANB had a ripper game. Our kicking overall looks to have improved!

  6. One of the more complete games you'll see from Christian Petracca. 29 touches 7 clearances, a goal, 11 score involvements. And that effort tracking back to spoil! The game was done and dusted be he wasn't!

  7. Anyone. I’m not fussy. 😅 Maybe that Frittata boy will go back to back. Sat with his mum for the entire match and the relief was palpable. She was so proud ❤️💙

  8. Yeah, a poor effort by May not to get back on the field and instead take the easy way by ambulance. #culture.

  9. He has reached a new level A few years back many thought he was fringe. He barely played 2016 and missed a big chunk of 2020 (partly due to being a sacrificial lamb to AFL on sling tackle) and I think was then a year behind Tracc on development into their best Now he's got 150 under the belt he's just continuing to improve, uses his work rate and now his disposal is elite 24 at 75% with 23 PA Loving it ❤️ 💙

  10. What a smashing What team can lose their two best defenders and not even blink Petracca has moved up a level somehow. BOG by a mile

  11. I have it on extremely good authority that “Bayles is still hurting” following last week’s performance. Not physically hurting (put down the defibrillator 😁), but he sets himself the highest of standards and is gutted when he doesn’t deliver. Believe me, no one is more disappointed than he is. He’s champing at the bit to get out there and atone for last week. This morning I told my extremely good authority person he’ll kick six, but we’d be happy with four. 😊 DEES BY 23 ❤️💙

  12. Go redlegs. Professional win with some terrific individual efforts and highlights. Goody looks a genius with his selections. Hore replaces may. And Petty goes back to cover Lever. Despite losing our two best key defenders for a half, on a perfect day for footy the oppo can't break 50 points.

  15. How much I love beating Hawthorn at the MCG!! So many years we sat and watched them tear us apart. The joy in seeing Hawks fans leaving early is as good a feeling as winning.

  16. Serious question - can you run around with the nickname Wizard when you’ve played two senior games and kicked 1.7? A tad premature 😁

  17. Can we just marvel a little at Christian Petracca? 25 touches, 12 contested, a goal and 8 score involvements. Gun.

  27. Training: Captain's run at Gosch's The AFL rehabbed are having a strength and conditioning session. Sestan plenty of running, Melky working hard and is now leading with intensity against a defender (non-contact), and receiving from Sestan. Bowey running laps. Turner going harder and has started change of direction drills. Hunter has also increased his intensity, now doing structured kick to kick with Turner. Casey players are out. Low ball get drills to start them off, (Sestan, Turner and Melky have joined the squad), then some handballs with short run throughs. Now skills in a square, finishing with a kick on goal. They have gone into a big square of four corners with bigger kicks and run throughs. Not many numbers match the VFL team sheet, and it seems to be last seasons squad. White has a support on his left knee and is sitting out most drills. AMW is not training. Number 50 is a big unit playing as a forward. Structured sims. First from back to front, then reversed. Tomlinson setting the rules and pushing standards. Jefferson and Adams, in the back pocket. Verrall and Farris-White rucking. Tholstrup and K.Brown forward, with Tholstrup being pushed up into the stoppages. Coach (Whitford) now pulls them together and demonstrates what he wants. He walks them through various scenarios at different areas on the field as they mime the actions. White attends these pantomimes, so could be playing. They end with goal kicking. 63 has the skills, rarely misses. The rehabbed stay out on the paddock for extra drills and sprints down the field.

  28. Some MFC supporters started getting frustrated at our kick-mark play in the fourth. I thought it was smart - we were down one on the bench and hadn't been able to give Brown or TMac any rest. Keeping the play a bit slower for a period made sense to me.

  30. one of the best defensive displays i've seen us execute the way we held up their ball movement and punished them on turnover second quarter was ugly, compounded by may's injury, but we were dominant otherwise professional win

  31. I thought JVR was terrific. I really think he's out best second ruck option. Competes in the air and on the ground. And time in the ruck gives him an outlet to get into the game if it's not working for him Inside F50.

  32. How bad is our medical team that they would send a player with a suspected ACL to do run throughs and strap him up hoping he can get back on, in round 3 🙄

  34. I think our ball movement has taken a massive step forward. Using different angles to get those handballs to running players and trying to get through the middle more. Looking good!

  35. Hawks chip, chip, chip and we still had 20+ more tackles. Trac’s work rate was off the charts. Go you Demons !!!

  38. Bailey has been FANTASTIC his whole career. His consistency and impact can be taken for granted at times. The position he plays with his physique is unique in AFL. His career stats (minus his 1 year at half back) compare favourably with Charlie Curnow for example. Even las week, his goal assist handball (with his right hand) to Trac was sensational. He doesn't have to kick 6 to have impact. Love the bloke!

  39. Take it easy, they through everything they had at us for those 2 quarters and we easily held them at arms length, we wore them out and toasted them in the last.

  41. Did they send him to do run throughs last time? There is a very specific ACL test they do. It’s either negative, positive or inconclusive like it was with Gawn last year. An inconclusive test would be treated as an ACL.

  46. Sadly I will be an armchair supporter today. A major point of interest will be the handling of Petty and BBB. Unless lubrication ports have been installed in BBB' s knees ( the bees knees) we know he won't get through an entire season. We all hope Petty is fully recovered , but, we've all seen those type of injuries become recurring problems. And then there is Tmac ! Maybe today will provide some insights into how these three are going to be managed. Today's result? The Hawks aren't mugs but if we are serious a comfortable 35 point win is on the cards!

  47. Fritschy won't have 2 poor games in a row. He'll kick 3 or 4. Petty to find his way into the game and hopefully kick a couple. We need this man fit if we're going to get our hands on the holy grail this year. fingers and toes crossed no lingering problems. Clarry will get the Maginnis tag by the sounds of it. Interesting to see how he deals with that Hawks always pose problems and make it difficult but if we're switched on i can't see them beating us. This game is played at the same family friendly timeslot each season, so my kids have seen us beat the Hawks regularly. It's helping foster a healthy disdain in them for the Hawks. An important life lesson i reckon. See you all at the G. Dees by 35 points
