  5. I attended training and said to trac "trac I hope that you get better soon." He replied thank you. Chin, Petty, Salem, and Lever were doing rehab on boundary. Steven May was training, but wearing a hat. The training was an easy session with a lot of kicking soccer balls, goal kicking from angles under control of Mark Williams, and kick to kick. I assume this to help with recovery from in the heat on Saturday. It is easy for me to get to training as I live in Richmond, and can walk there.

  7. This is such an important point. One of the (many) things that really frustrates me about how footy is covered by the media is the thread of blatant hyprocicy that runs through it. Take the way clarry's situation has been covered Media people love to bang on how great footy clubs are in terms of 'wrapping their arms around' players who are experiencing personal issues. But then all season they get stuck into clarry and the club because it's great for clicks. And give the club very little, if any, kudos for how they have wrapped their arms around claz and support him through what is probably the most difficult period of his young life. And, similarly don't give claz kudos for his commitment and the work he is doing. It's particularly galling when it's ex players who are being hypocritical given every one of them would understand how challenging the whole thing us. Even more galling is the completely disingenuous coverage about all things players struggling with mental health issues. Actually, disingenuous is being kind. The media is a huge part of the problem and rarely a meaningful part of the solution.

  16. What a great get for our club. On and off the field. These are the characters that make a club great. Loved what he brought on the field. Really straightened us up and sometimes forced the oppo to play an extra tall and go outside their usual 'preferred' line up down back. He also drew plenty of frees just through worrying his opponent as he would attenpt to mark the ball at its highest point on the lead and did so quite often. There were the little one percenters. A hand in here. A fingertip there. An outlet relief mark down the line to help out Maxy on occasions. Sometimes he'd even drift right down to the last line for the odd intercept save the day mark. His accuracy was also up there, which meant if you could get it into his hands he would goal more often than not. Who'll ever forget his mark from behind and goal as apart of the bang bang bang bang passages late in the third. The Dennis Lillee run up! Thanks a million Benny boy and enjoy the after life.

  20. I suspect WCW you have provided us with the most significant thread/contribution from you for the year with the focus on and breaking the Trac story and accompanying content. We're all sleeping better tonight. Now a lead story online in the AGE but with interestingly no leaking of meeting content, just that it occurred. Much appreciated.

  21. The two longest consecutively serving coaches in the AFL, Chris Scott and John Longmire, have two and one flag to their names respectively. Clarko and Hardwick have three apiece but they’re nowhere near it this year. Flags are a ridiculously tough metric to measure a coach on. Literally every single coach there’s ever been has been a dud if that’s the metric. We’ve only had one year under Goodwin where we’ve been uncompetitive, which was 2019. We’ve had four seasons (2018, 21, 22 and 23) where we’ve had a flag shot. He is 7 from 8 on competitiveness, 4 from 8 on flag shots, and 1 from 4 on flag conversions. That is comparable with the best in the business.

  23. Benny was unbelievable during that '21 finals series. He'll be a much loved figure in retirement. Hopefully we find a role for him off field so we can keep him around the club.

  27. On radio this morning Morris played two grabs from interviews Viney gave last week. The first was given on Thursday but wasn’t aired until last night. He was strong about loving the club and said “I love the Melbourne footy club…no plans to not be a one club player”. The second was the post-match with Lynch where he says “nah” straight away and then the “we’ll see how the year plays out”. Morris argued this shows a change in Viney’s thoughts. I disagree. I think it strengthens the argument that the “nah” was his true answer and the rest is contract negotiation talk. Two days earlier, which was well after the North target story broke, he sat down and said he has no plan to leave. I might be wrong but I’m not at all concerned.

  42. But but but we have negative one ruckman on our list beyond Gawn, so how is giving Gawn another 2 years bad for our list health? We are not exactly brimming with ruck talent. Does anyone seriously think that Gawn wouldn't be able to contribute, even as a backup, in 2 seasons? Look at some of the absolute NQRs that have rucked in a premiership after the age of 30. If Gawn drops his output by 50% in 2 years time, he will still be better than half the rucks in the competition. Besides, it's ridiculous to suggest we signed him as a PR move, he didn't decide last night to take George on a bike ride, then call Tim Lamb and say "George finally learnt the words to the song, let me sign a 2 year extension".
