The chickens of what has clearly been inadequate list management have come home to roost. The running theme in our poor performances this year has been our uncompetitiveness in the midfield. We weren't to know what was going to happen with Gus, but as soon as that happened, we had insufficient depth to cover. It only got worse once it became clear that Oliver was nowhere near what we need him to be. The sooner we accept that our midfield is the core of all of our problems, the better. We can add to this a fitness program that has failed us, too. Being completely outworked by a side off a 5-day break at this time of year, when we're supposed to be running over the ground, is all the proof we need. Whatever we're doing isn't working. So much of what made us good for three years has evaporated this year. For three and a bit years I had confidence that, even when down in general play, we could turn games around. I had confidence that we could hold up behind the ball. I had confidence that we'd see consistent effort most quarters and most weeks. Sadly, I've lost a lot of that confidence. The future doesn't have to be as bleak as this season though. We now have a chance this off-season to address the problems that are staring us in the face. If we can get the off-season right, there's plenty to work with for 2025. But we're not good enough to get it wrong. And the chance for redemption in 2025 shouldn't be offered to everyone. Too many mistakes in list management and line coaching mean that some are going to have to depart and fresh faces/voices will be needed.12 points

We're a big chance as Footscray are banned from training at their usual venue.11 points

Well, the last 3 games I have attended where the final last year against Carlton, Brisbane this year at the Gabba and last week at the freezing MCG. All losses by less than a kick! Will be home tonight in Brisbane watching on Kayo so we are a much better chance. 🤞11 points

The fault here lies squarely at the feet of Tim Lamb. His inability to recruit a single senior player to add to this team is a travesty. Worse, those he has added are genuinely negatives from a competitiveness and physicality POV. To maintain a competitive list you need both trading and drafting to be on point. We built our flag with draft + Langdon, Lever, Hibberd, Melksham, May. We haven't added a single solid piece since. I said at the start of the year that we were a Trac injury away from missing finals - I was right. I'm not sure what we expected tbh when our midfield depth consists of Laurie, Woewoedin, Tholstrup. They're just kids - but it's just not at the level. We knew Oliver would be poor. I don't think any of us thought Viney would be this poor. Deloitte might have broken him... We simply had to add some senior, good players to this team after the flag. Richmond went and got Tom Lynch. We got Grundy...10 points

Critiques of Tholstrup are ridiculous. He's a first year player having a crack. It will come with a bit more experience and a calmer head.9 points

Rivers has really stepped up. His efforts need to be acknowledged because he had to carry Oliver and Viney as well.9 points

Petty needs to go play on JUH if May is done. We have Disco to sub on as a forward.8 points

Gut the whole coaching department and overhaul the game plan. Continue to get games into Howes, AMW, Tholstrup, Woey and then Jefferson next week.7 points

We're playing kids, but how can you be confident that most of them will make it? McVee and Van Rooyen will be fine. Windsor can clearly play. That's it. I have real concerns about Tholstrup, Howes, Moniz-Wakefield and Turner. Bowey has regressed. Laurie is a bust. Woewodin and Brown are triers, but not sure they can step up. Kentfield was a bizarre swing and miss.7 points

It’s these sort of games that teach players and supporters that you need strong resilience to be a Melbourne supporter or player. We have made mistakes and hsve problems. But. I for one think their attitude had been fantastic Not giving up that I could see. Never make disco a sub again. He deserves his place. Play the kids. Any of them Go Dee’s7 points

Congratulations to Scott Pendlebury who becomes the first player in AFL history to play 400 games without ever stepping foot on Kardinia Park. He also holds the games record on the MCG. He’s played 62.5% of his games at the G. 252 out of 400. And the fixture is fair and equitable, and there’s nothing to see here.7 points

Why are we buying into this media narrative. Melbourne are not a top 5 supported side. Yet our crowd figures are pretty high considering We average 42k per game We played a team that would've had 1k fans max at the ground Dees fans turn up in a season very few players have. Barrett, Morris McLure and co can suck a fat one but laughable Dees fans want to play this game as well. My excuse, a 5 month old to watch at home and a mortgage with astronomical interest rates. Yet I still pay my membership, I'm under no obligation to go watch a football game in 2 degree temps a week out after having covid. If the AFL and it's media worms care so much about crowd attendance, maybe listen to the fans and stop with the floating fixture, the rising tickets costs and bring back Thursday night football. I would've loved to have attended round 24 against Pies, but the fact we still don't know when it is 3 weeks out from the game means I can no longer commit to it. But I can't wait for the media snakes to ask where are the Dees fans.7 points

Anyone who complains about our current membership numbers are just looking for ways to pot the club. The fact we have exceeded 60k members several years running now is phenomenal.7 points

Demonland is nothing if not predicable. Death, taxes, and “sack Goodwin” posts every time we lose.6 points

It's crazy how inept our trading has been, while our drafting has been mostly excellent.6 points

It's been clear for weeks that our season is shot. Losing Trac was a step too far. I don't blame Goody at all. I know everyone is going to be calling for his head but he has not had enough good players -simple. No Gus, Smith out, Trac gone now, Oliver at 50%, Petty well below par following his foot injury, Brown has gone on too long..... what Goody HAS done is bring in new players, and that sets us up for a real crack next year. Yes, get the surgeries done now.6 points

Daylight between the post and the goal, but no disallow the goal. The arc is the most corrupt display of bias I’ve ever seen.6 points

Disco and Petty back now and Tmac has gone forward. Probably because he was getting too close to punching an umpire in the head.6 points

I'm with @Binmans PA on this. As much as a player like Waterman would be a good addition, IMO he's not "the one name we should be throwing everything we can at". I'd even argue that a lesser forward who can properly relief ruck is more important than Waterman. Improving our midfield and finding a forward/ruck will IMO help solve the problems that Waterman would also solve.6 points

The media in this country, outside of a few notable exceptions, is garbage. Fake news. Once you realise this it becomes much easier to ignore their nonsense6 points

i doubt we will win another game this year. such a pitiful performance, we allow the opposition to run around all by themselves and at times we dont even chase them.5 points

Any injuries, put those players on ice and get the kids in. Load up for 2025.5 points

Our recruiting since 2022 has been putrid. McAdam not even ready for VFL. Hunter is a semi retired player. I hope we don't screw it this year or we'll be in a world of pain for a long time.5 points

I am bewildered by the midfield set up. Gawn taps to the open side where Clarry is standing behind his opponent. Why is Rivers hardly playing midfield? Why aren’t we tagging Bont? Tmac’s frustration is very much felt here.5 points
