https://x.com/FootyIsMyJam/status/1797863535961321648 • Rick Lever was running 1/2 laps. Running, not jogging, went at a good click. Looking like recovery is going well. • JVR & Kynan Brown were doing separate training away from group. Both looked pretty solid, just management I’d say, too early to call on JVR. • Max, BBB, T Mac all on load-management shift ( taking care if older boys). Max was in high spirits, such a good leader. They were joined by Spargo, Hore & Schache • Lukar Kentfield is a ripping looking kid. Had his first hit out. Big body, good size, moves well and good foot skills. Wearing the almighty #44. • Had a good end-to-end ball movement session. Skills much better today, a few of them looked a little confused at times as to where they should be but most drills got one end to the other without missing targets. • “NO MISTAKES” was yelled a few times by Choco Williams. • Plenty of one-on-one chats by senior players with coaches and assistants. All seemed in good spirits. Vines and Goody spent a good 10mins going over a few things at end of training. • Kossy and McAdam were doing goalkicking from boundary line. McAdam won comfortably. And yes, he had multiple shots OVER 35m comfortably. Think it’s just a confidence issue from his soft tissue injuries. • Melksham looks really really sharp. Rest finishing, great footskills, said hello to the dozen fans that turned up. Ripping bloke, will be handy in 5-6 weeks I’d assume. All in all good spirits, no laughing or joking around, just focus and supporting players who nailed the drills etc. Pretty light workout overall, expected for post-match session.16 points

perfect bye content; worth revisiting post king's birthday i reckon in football, just as in life, things are never as bad or as good as they may seem but this is an appalling comment imo agree with the first bit, but to say he's 'destroyed the club'? shocking thing to say12 points

I’m going to keep calling this out when I see it because it’s [censored]. 17-1-4 in the H&A season, we beat every other side except one, we finished on top and we dominated three finals. The revisionism on here from posters like you is embarrassing and pathetic. Focus on the problems we’re facing now but if you want to demean our 2021 flag, honestly, [censored] off.11 points

Prefer it that way tbh. I get that such a huge loss is triggering for the fan base but there is so much hand wringing and hyperbole on DL and social media right now. I'm Hopeful it was an aberration. Think we can still make finals11 points

A young hulking young key forward who likes the physicality side and his nickname is 'The Duck' I think I'm going to love this kid even more..9 points

Popped down to training, but must have got there late. Just saw Witches Hats- some wearing bibs and some without..9 points

Good luck to Hayward and the Swans. The mail from the very reliable poster was that the clubs were keen on his services, not necessarily he would end up there. And no need to be a [censored] smart azz about it.9 points

First time poster, long term reader. I work with a yank who has got me into following the Edmonton Oilers... NHL. They started the season 2-9-1... Which is pretty bad. Yesterday they made the Stanley Cup. The starting 5 points was the fewest ever by a team to make the finals. The Captain (Connor McDavid) said this during the run of bad results: “The mental mistakes that keep costing us over and over again made us chase the game,” said McDavid. “It is just death by a thousand cuts, that is what it feels like. One mistake and it costs us, and another little mistake and it just snowballs. It is tough to chase games.” It was a good roster, but a bad team. They fired their coach (which I'm not advocating) and turned things around. They remind me a lot of the Dees of late. I have faith the fellas will get things moving. Maybe they need to go back to their DNA. I'm posting this more out of interest then anything else. Sport can be funny. Especially considering Mattiais Ekholm and Max seem to be separated at birth. Is that all the squad or just Max, Tmac and BB? Hopefully JVR can come up for this week. He is very important to our structure.8 points

Don’t agree. We dominated 21 from start to finish and smashed each 3 finals. Go tell a pies fan I reckon there’s an * next to their flag last year as the umpires got them past GWS and our goal kicking got them past us - pretty sure they won’t cop that8 points

the thing is, @picket fence, that's not what people are calling you up on - you are denigrating the 2021 premiership by looking at 2024 i don't think we're a chance to win the premiership in 2024 personally, but that has nothing to do with 2021 saying we fluked a premiership? stupid comment7 points

Gary Baker used to run rock wall restaurant at Salamanca Hobart. Not only a great restaurant but Gary and his wife were terrific hosts. No matter how long between visits they remembered you and they loved seeing Dees supporters. So not only was he great player but a top bloke.6 points

He's clearly not ready mate. And to be honest I don't think he'll do well against a high pressure Collingwood outfit. I see him as a liability.6 points

Tommo out, Howes in. Better balance for pies setup. Lingers back to a wing, Kolt to HF, Windsor on other wing. Woey on bench not sub. Kossie more time forward, McAdam either out or on absolute notice. JVR straight in. Disco back, Petty CHF leading up to the wings Nibbler and mcVee run with Daicos My best is they will try to spread us like everyone else has. Gotta win the contest and get back to basics. This is a silly argument. We only won it because our elite players were playing elite football? That’s how every flag is won!6 points

his fitness base to power out of the contest is clearly not there and it won't return during this season he needs a big off-season to return to the best he can be in 20256 points

Full credit to the guys for fronting up last night, it wasn't going to be an easy shift but your efforts are appreciated. Binman thanks for answering what would be the umpteenth question about the 'Training program'. I know your intentions get misunderstood and I know it gives you the [censored]. I've agreed with you a few times that loading is a factor so I don't deny it. I must admit I wrote this question too soon after the game ended. Pro tip: Remember to breathe before posting podcast questions after a big loss. I think many were eagerly awaiting your first sentence on the show this week (no pressure) and I think you got it spot on. We can bang on about old gameplans, new gameplans, personel, coaching but they are all moot points if we can't get to first base with the first fundamental of football, effort. It would be like buying a new surfboard and rocking up one time to the beach with when the surf was garbage and then wanting to go back to the old board. None of us know what the reason was for lack of effort and desire on the day but that was just it. Even a hamster needs to put in effort for the wheel to go round, our hamster was playing dead.5 points

I think behind Essendon in 2000 and Geelong in 2007 we had the largest aggregate winning margin (190 points) across a finals series in the AFL ERA. Collingwood had a whopping 11 combined points last year. There was nothing underserved or fluky about our flag, and any side that only loses 4 games in a home and away season is the real deal. Furthermore, the quarters were normal length in 2021. It doesn't take away the fact the approximately 15,000 MFC members, 10,000 MCC members and 1,500 AFL members were denied the opportunity to attend the experience of a life time, and probably won't any time soon. That's the only wrinkle on the 2021 premiership (outside of Perth people attending) and it has nothing to do with the club or coach.5 points

And they're known as uneducated filth for a reason. Their famous cheer squad leader is a convicted pedophile. Why would any person of sound mind agree with their assertion?I f anything, our premiership in 2021 is worth more, as we dominated everyone all season long without any form of advantage. We were the outright best team both home and away season and finals. It was factually one of the most dominant seasons this century. Pies etc got a home ground advantage over an interstate clubs etc. Anyone discrediting our 2021 flag should be ignored and flogged before the masses for slander.5 points

Daicos is a phenomenal runner, especially in space. Surely Anb is the only one that can keep up and even have the burst to maybe chase him down. As a left field I wouldn't mind seeing McVee tagging him for a brief patch but really that's just my bias to see him more around the ball. A guy can dream.5 points

A side without Pendles, DeGoey, Elliot, Mitchell, Mihochek, Cox is significantly on the back foot. Any other week I would have penciled us in with an easy 6+goal victory. But alas, we are Melbourne, we seem to find incredibly innovative ways to screw things up. I really don’t know what to expect. I can firmly make a case that will see us finish bottom 4 and top 4 from here. Do we persist? I know the game plan change is making us look really bad. Is it the old adage of it’s the darkest hour just before dawn?4 points

Totally. Coming after injuries to Fritsch and Petty, losing Melky was the killer blow.4 points

Surely Bub a person of your wisdom can see that those who believe there is an asterisk against that premiership are those with a need to denigrate other's achievements, some people are just like that. It's a form of jealousy in my opinion. They are the ones that can suck it up.4 points
-
2021 was amazing. Ridiculous to denigrate. Would've been better in Melbourne but it does not diminish the achievement. In 2022 we got to finals banged up and limped our way through the second half of the season. In 2023, we were good enough to win the flag despite being with Melksham & Petty in finals and poor Angus being mauled into retirement. A FD failure with Grundy, poor kicking for goal in both finals and a JV kick with his wrong foot with 60 seconds to go vs Carlton blew it up. You could find millions of other reasons but whe you boil it down I think they're the keys4 points

@WERRIDEE are you ok? concussion?? “Petty: The experiment has failed it's over try and get him some form down back” Yet you then put him in as FULL FORWARD in your best team?? Its time to end the Petty experiment as a forward. Premiership winning defender. Return him to where he was starring alongside May and Lever.4 points

I have this crazy and controversial idea that may not go down well on this forum. Play Ed Langdon on a wing. I know it's absurd but worth a shot I guess.4 points
