Doesn’t apply to those who the AFL believe will be in Brownlow contention. I’d suggest Nick Daicos would also be given the same treatment if he were to knock someone high. But that would also mean he’d have to actually go to a contest..8 points

It really didn’t take long for Gleeson and Christiansen to reveal themselves as a corrupt joke. Greene, Butters, Cameron, under the standard applied to Kozzie should ALL have gotten at least a week. There was potential for serious injury in all three, all three involved head high contact, should be at least one week each, probably more, but they don’t play for Melbourne, case closed.6 points

Need to get him out of the ruck.. he is a good 2nd ruck, but you ain’t putting Winx in the Grand Annual Steeplechase.6 points

this is the sort of wholesome content I needed after a bad few days after the loss last week. ROO! 🦘🦘6 points

Great result. He's struggling a bit this year but he's a great young talent and has versatility and grunt. A key pillar for our forward stocks and structure for the coming years. Always good to lock away another WA kid.6 points

Jack L is a gun, would thrive in our environment. Good speed, can jump, kicks it a mile and has a load of natural talent. Got more grunt that JW, IMV. Would be an outstanding get.6 points

I suppose the bright side is that with Murphy retiring, we should have a better chance of getting a favourable outcome with the cap issue now that Collingwood are likely seeking the same outcome. im sad for him but not for Collingwood. Its very fitting for them to also lose a critical cog in their team.6 points

Bailey Laurie AFL statistics: Disposals: 2023 4,4,14,9,5 2024 8 the bloke has been a sub a lot, I get that, but no matter how you look at it, he is an underwhelming AFL prospect. He consistently plays well at VFL level, but cannot make the step-up to AFL standard. In the Sydney game, his poor disposals cost us dearly. You cannot get away with mistakes at AFL level that might be covered at VFL level. Turnovers are crucified at the top level. He had 5 possessions in the QF against Collingwood. We basically played a man short, pardon the pun, in that match. He can continue to build his form at VFL level. He is not required in the seniors at this stage. Great that he is laying tackles…but I am yet to see the same against AFL bodies. His tackle stats at AFL level: 2023 1,0,1,2,2 2024 1 I’m sorry, it’s a hard no from me. Much prefer the experience of Hunter, or to blood young Pup Brown6 points

I once knocked a bloke out cold on the footy field. Luckily, he regained consciousness after I gently whispered my community work into his ear, along with my achievements and good character. Probably saved his life come to think of it.5 points

Just turned 21. He has shown more than most in of his age. Now all we need to do is continue to change the way we play to ensure he continues to develop.5 points

This kid's got more loyalty than our former number 6. LFG! You'll win a Coleman medal with us!5 points

Butters is not a dirty player and I admire his attack on the ball, but players and supporters need to realise the game has shifted. How the AFL can condone that type of attack on the ball, which was a whisker from ending in a bad concussion to Banfield is a joke.5 points

U are kidding, plenty on here are Totally slagging him of! He has just turned 20. Really good young bloke who can and will learn. Get a grip!5 points

The hit rate on category B rookies is very low, but the hit rate on the dregs of under 18/VFL/country league players is also low. Recruiters aren’t trying to draft VFL players, they’re drafting potential AFL players. There are heaps of guys who can play VFL but have a ceiling that is almost worthless at AFL level, so drafting any of them is a waste of time and resources. Recruiters can be pretty certain what they’ll get with those players, with the range of potential outcomes being very narrow. At least drafting a 206cm kid who hasn’t played much before exposed you to a very wide range of outcomes, some of which might include being a valuable AFL player. Whilst the average category B rookie will be much worse than a state league player, the likelihood that they’ll be a valuable AFL player is probably significantly higher. Jason Taylor isn’t a VFL recruiter, he’s an AFL recruiter.5 points

Was found guilty of medium impact, that is a suspension, unless you are a good bloke, who in Cameron’s case work's with Indigenous youth. Robbo, Whately on 360 stunned, journos Jay Clark, Glen McFarlane and Ralphy on Midweek Tackle, also stunned and appeared actually angry. We have one rule for some and another for others. Can’t wait to hear Kingy. Laura Kanes’ words of “all players are treated equally” are now quite hollow. IMO the sooner the Tribunal Chairman and Christian are gone and the whole system is overhauled, the better. Consistency simply does not exist in the AFL judiciary.4 points

An absolute farce. I'll always love the sport of Australian Football but I've fallen out of love with the league, just a corrupt organisation.4 points

Now how about we get a proper forward line coach to teach the kid how to use his body and positioning to help him to become a better forward.4 points

According to the neutrals on afl reddit, Kozi tried to murder him and should've got 4-6 weeks. So i don't think both players can play on the same team without bloodshed /sarcasm4 points

I saw him on the tram after St.Kilda had beaten his Pies. He looked thoroughly miserable. This is of course completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, but hopefully it puts a sparkle in your day.4 points

I think Stephen May has been our best overall recruit from another team. Rarely if ever get's beaten and doesn't get the accolades he deserves mostly because he's a defender. That level of performance for that long as a forward and he'd be a megastar of the competition. On pure talent a previous excellent recruit for the Dees was Peter Vardy. Unfortunately his career was cut short due to injury. A great player to watch4 points

Corruption plain and simple, sub-conciously or not they have different outcomes for different people depending who they are. Any one who looks at what's going on can see that. Just not sure what anyone can do about it. It's really not on and very very unfair. That's all anyone wants, pure fairness across the board. Is that just too much to ask?4 points

In the early 1980s Ron Barassi and Barry Richardson announced to the football world that the Dees were to prospect the Emerald isle for potential players. This proposal was met with a combination of amusement, skepticism and scorn by the wider VFL (as it then was) community. That attitude changed markedly when we in our early batch we produced 2 All Australian recruits and had possibly a 3rd in Paul Earley if he hadn't been consumed by homesickness and returned home. The recruiting move was a radical success. Fast forward to 2024, and ironic as it seems many clubs have Irish players, (in some cases like Brisbane and Geelong more than one), and we as the founders of the scheme have no-one at all. In fact it is more than 20 years since our last Irish hopefuls Kevin Devine and Nick Walsh tried out. I acknowledge that the AFL made things difficult for us, which is of itself not unusual, after the Wight-Stynes recruiting coup, by requiring us to use draft picks to recruit this untried talent. But now we can use Category B selections so this is no longer a valid excuse. What happened? Where did it go wrong? Why aren't we even in the market for these players? Don't we have a past network of contacts to assist in the process? Irish players are not even mentioned in men's recruiting discussions at all although in fairness the women's team has been creditably proactive. We just seem to just have this fascination with basketballers who are tall but not much else as our category B rookie targets. Can you throw light on why we are no longer interested in rebooting the Irish experiment?3 points

Need to do a Collingwood with Howe to him. Bring him in as a forward, watch him battle to get a kick, find an opening down back, move him and watch him flourish as the rebounding 3rd tall we need.3 points

he reminds me so much of jack watts natural skills but needs to work a lot harder on and off ball3 points

Lot of talk about Lukosius now being available, as discussed by Sam Edmund on SEN this morning with Walter and Ben King seemingly Hardwick’s preferred KPF duo. He also added that Lukosius is getting fed up with being moved around the park as much as he has been and would like to settle as a KPF. Adelaide boy but apparently not wedded to returning home. He hasn’t lived up to his potential thus far, and has a bit of the Jack Watts’ about him in being beautifully skilled but perhaps not relishing the physical side of the game. But I reckon we could do a lot worse than getting him in to play that roaming role while JVR (and hopefully Petty) develop as more your stay at home types, especially if he’s available for a pick later than 20 or so. Thoughts?3 points

If we're throwing around a war chest to get a top liner in, I'd much rather the salary cap space go towards McCluggage.3 points

I think Howes is safe, though see your point, but agree the other two are at risk. I think Billings probably lucky with Salo going out because his selection creates some versatility, for example if say Langdon did play back then billmgs could take his wing sport (or in the mix with Windor and Hunter). Woey looked all at sea at HB, so i cant see him being picked as defender. But he could also play wing. To be honest i'd add Petty. He has been average at best since coming in to the side, and was woeful against the Lions (his player rating was -0.6!). I wonder if that was part of the thinking in trialing turner as a forward. I suspect Turner will come in for the tigers game. He is versatile and athletic enough to play on medium down back, and he could also take Tmac's role if needed, allowing Tmac to go forward. Or he could replace Petty in the forward line (unlikely, but Petts would want to get going).3 points

The Giants almost came to a standstill last week with a few injuries and only 1 on the bench. So I checked the AFL tracker stats to see if they struggled and the workrate for the Saints was insane. They had the 5th highest amount of high intensity running ever (49km). And the Saints have a 5 day turnaround this week so it will be very interesting how they come up against the dogs on Thursday night.3 points

This is just an ongoing blatant disgrace by the MRO now, I wish more of the sports media would have the guts to call it out like King.3 points

Kozzie doing the same action gets 3-4 without any question. Hunter as mentioned got suspended for the same thing.3 points

i just saw the other incident that had Crouch rubbed out for a week. I couldn't believe that the excuse was that one player had went with his hands (butters) down to collect the ball whilst the other (crouch) didn't until milliseconds after the impact was made. We talk about technique and the ability to cause significant injury and you have Butters going at speed launching himself into that contest. I think its another way that players will now 'disguise' intent to make contact. Similar to Maynards 'smother'. The AFL just need to make it black and white. If contact with head is made, you are in trouble. You cannot glean intent of a player, so we should stop expecting umpires and MRO to do such a thing. Assess the action and impact and give a penalty fitting the outcome.3 points

Further proof that the AFL protects high profile players and Brownlow hopefuls If this same action was done by a nobody, say I dunno Hunter, it would result in suspension. And has.3 points
