I hate the way the VFL has been merged with the Reserves. Tomorrow I get to watch the Demons Reserves (aka Casey) play a torpedo punt* from my home. But I'll feel like a goddamn traitor when my Coburg drinking buddies see me in red and blue. Any other week I support the Lions. Coburg Lions are really struggling this year. It's hard to compete against AFL clubs and professional athletes. All Demon fans going to Coburg, please eat as many snags and chips as you can, and drink the Coburg Lager. Help keep the Lions viable. * I'm probably talking 5 x Malcolm Blight torps if I'm honest15 points

He did some good things. He could realistically have had 4 goals and then you rave about his game. His goal kicking was atrocious, which is ironic as it’s been quite good at AFL level. He got frustrated at times, but when you look at Jefferson you see a natural forward who just understands how to play that role. Grundy isn’t that. But can he help bring the ball to ground and compete up forward? I think he can. But a natural forward he ain’t.12 points

Agree. Matthew Jefferson on recent showings has something of the 'Basketball Jones' about him. Terrific judgement aerially, an elite kicking action, growing confidence physically, plus some 'magic' when the ball hits the deck. Postscript; Liked Deakyn Smith's game too, has a nice mix of silky skills, physicality and is getting his hands on the ball more frequently this season.11 points

And just remember the [censored] Eagles supporters used to give us back then, I think it’s fantastic10 points

Here we go again. More rubbish speculation on some unknown dees player who supposedly has zero time for the Demon army. Seriously, who cares. Has nothing to do with this thread. Back on topic, here are a few dot points on what I'm looking forward to this weekend against the Crows • Max going solo again. If he has another game like he did against the Lions then the discussion ramps up again regarding the debate on Grundy's worth in the team • Another week for Brown and JVR to build some cohesion up forward. We really need this forward line humming before finals. • Petracca up forward and the midfield taking care of business without him. • Mcvee match up on Rankine. • Kozzie to hopefully show that he's back in form.10 points

You need to consider we have had many weeks with no Salem or Hibberd injured/managed and no Oliver meaning Brayshaw into the pivot meaning he has generally had a spot in the back 7 most weeks. McVee and Rivers sustained impact and Bowey’s recent return to form means something has to give if they want Hibbo into the run for finals. Bowey is too good to be at VFL so considering his skill set may fill the gap left by Spargos current and Chandlers recent form it seems a alternative we should consider over omission even if not tried before now.9 points

I don't think enough has been said about Woey keeping his spot with other players available. Well done lad, keep it going.9 points

Some great stuff on bomberblitz. Loved this one..... We’ve turned plenty of corners, but we exist in a closed maze.9 points

What I would pay to see Geelong turn into West Coast and become a rabble. Thats how much I hate the [censored].8 points

Thought I could see some development happening for the AFL listed. Jefferson finding good positions, Adams looking stronger, Verrall getting some involvement, Deakin.S playing well, Sestan, though not much involvement is looking fit, running out the game and looks like he has improved his skin folds. Spargo and Dunstan played well. Harmes, I wish he wouldn't play himself or others into trouble. Dursma can take a mark. Edwards looks composed, moves well, gets involved. Grundy nearly, though for a big paid, player should be dominating at VFL level. Started taking his marks in the 4th.8 points

What a pity for the Cats. My heart breaks for them. Time for the Dees to finally consolidate a position in the Top 4.7 points

31% of Curnow’s 61 goals has come against the Eagles. Makes you wonder about the equality of this year’s Coleman medal.7 points

Absolutely. He will keep improving with experience. Is very composed with his disposal and that is something a few in our side lack. We have found another soldier.7 points

Port play an attacking style. If they’d steadied more often they would have won comfortably. They got sucked in to Collingwood’s mania. We don’t do that. I’m confident we can beat both these teams when it matters.6 points

I was sceptical of Jefferson early..no impact..he is showing consistent improvement and I think has a few extra badly needed kgs. Well done.6 points

Jefferson is special. Adams also looks the goods at the other end. Seston not doing much.6 points

Very good contested mark already and an accurate kick. Another pre season and more muscle and he will be JVR’s key forward partner.5 points

If Freo lose tonight, they could very well go on to only win one more game. Which is against West Coast. Their remaining games are: Geelong in Geelong -10+ goal loss Brisbane at Optus- 10+ goal loss if they can’t even beat Swans at home Eagles at Optus- A 10 goal win. Eagles are a steaming pile of [censored] Port at Optus- A 10+ goal loss Hawks at the G- a probable loss5 points

I'm glad we didn't. What help is that sort of game for development and/or plsyers pushing their case for senior selection5 points

What makes it a Mickey Mouse season? It was a full season, we won it without a single home final, and won it convincingly. I do not agree with that notion at all!5 points

Wow, Geelong really delivering on Scott's 'Brilliant' 'new' 'strategy' of 'getting inside the heads of opponents' by 'announcing themselves as contenders'. Maybe I should move that particular breath of sarcasm to the Damien Barrett thread, but wow, Geelong must have had yet another bout of the whole team being sick the night before.5 points

Excellent work by Grundy. Crashes a pack at CHF and roves his own work, then a quick dish off ending up with the Shack directly in front. That's his bag. If he can break packs and follow up quickly it's the best of both worlds for him.5 points

Coming out of the side are Bailey Laurie and Joel Smith - you would assume one of them will be the sub for Melbourne tomorrow. Zane Duursma wearing # 465 points

On my way to game, and realise from The Red Fox that it’s the ground we were at for the weekend after Norm was sacked - the only time Melbourne played at North’s then home ground. Ominously it was round 13, and we were well beaten in front of 8,312 hardy fans. We did at least salvage a League record out of the rubble of that round, and one unlikely to be beaten: temporary coach Checker Hughes was the oldest person then to have coached an AFL team, and remains so at 71 years, 148 days. Dunno whether that qualifies for the “embarrassing records” thread or not, but it is what it is.5 points

cancel the useless eastern rail loop and you save billions. it's already headed for massive over runs reform of work cover charges could save billions too but i fear we were conned and we'll get naught from the state gummint stuck with casey/aami for at least another decade5 points

He doesn't play those positions, he hasn't trained for it and doesn't know the system properly. Yes he is a brilliant by foot but thats no good if he isn't putting on pressure and in the right spots. Brayshaw is a midfielder and i think thats where he wil be even at full strength, its exactly what we did last year this time. Why would he be omitted? Rivers is playing more up the ground in the Wing rotation Brayshaw is in the middle.5 points
