  1. Just a Short report Demonlanders, Got to Casey at 10.00 Could see most squad members indoors possibly doing weights sessions, however Witches hats were set up indicating training was to be completed. At 11.00 all Defenders from the Ones and the Two's came out and did drills and skills sessions. Of most note about this was that CHRISTIAN SALEM and JAKE LEVER BOTH TRAINED. Had to leave so cannot speculate on rest of the session but given they are usually out by 9-9.30 and train till about 12.30 this could be just a light session. Given its Tuesday I would speculate main training session would be at Gosh's on Thursday before game Saturday! Cheers P.F

  4. Diagnosed with suprascapular neuropathy which ended his sports career, left him with maximum 50 per cent of shoulder movement for the rest of your life and around three years of health coverage. Covid19 made access to health carers problematic. He was not able to work and his situation with care was becoming more and more difficult. Ultimately, contacted by former Dees teammate Kade Kolodjashnij, who had himself been forced into premature retirement because of concussion effects. He put him onto an insurance expert who reviewed his situation and now has more full insurance and access to specialists. He is hopeful of securing better treatment for a better outcome for himself.

  6. I'd be disappointed if we weren't bullish about our chances this year. We should be aiming to win the flag. We are in the midst of our premiership window. If we don't capitalise and win at least one more flag in the next 1-3 years, it should be considered a failure. We have an incredibly strong list, and only catastrophic injuries should prevent us from finishing top 4 and giving ourselves the best chance possible to win it again.

  7. Stats tell the story: - 183 frees for in 130 games at an average of 1.41 per game for north - 25 frees in 32 games at an average of 0.78 per game for us He’d have 3 per game if he played for dogs!

  9. Apparently Morgan Stanly showed excellent promise in the U19s, then did a groin and missed the entire next season. Comes off half back quite nicely. Mandate is to restrict oppo's half forwards The 10M in cash is for 1) the umpies when we play Jeelong/South/Footscray during the finals and 2) ward off Bartlett I hear from an insider that the Club is considering investing in tennis balls - very high rates of return Strategic opportunity = buying all the The Filth's reserved seating at Headquarters for the next 10 years so we don't have to get fumigated upon leaving the ground.

  10. He'll play i reckon. They will want him to build some momentum ahead of a round one selection. My guess is of the young players, JVR , Chandler, McVee, Bowey and Turner will all play. And maybe Verell (to cover maxy?), Laurie AMW and Woey. Hibbo, Jordon and Tomo all to play. Fritsch too if right. If i';m close to the mark with those guesses that's say 8-10 players to come in. They will probably play a mega extended bench (coxz last week was the dress rehearsal) so maybe 6 players who played the first four periods against the saints will have to come out. My guess on those 6 players are: Lever (injured, so no brainer), Maxy (practicing the break they flagged they want to give him during the season?), May, Tracc, Viney and Brown. With limited minutes for Langdon, Oliver and Kozzie.

  12. Grundy definitely man handled Marshall in around the ground stoppages. I thought his grappling was close to being a free kick against on some occasions when he threw Marshall aside. Opposition ruckmen will be exhausted from wrestling with Grundy and Max and having to jump against Max. Late in games we should be able to take advantage of this. It may force teams to play two genuine rucks when otherwise they'd just go with one.

  14. Somewhere to chat about any MelbourneFC related content that come's up on the AFL Daily podcast. Not everyone's cup of tea but I usually find myself having a listen if I'm out and about in the car during the day. You can listen to it straight from the AFL website or on one of many streaming services such as Spotify. From todays episode (27/02/2023) about 14:10 to 17:30, some discussion about how we went with the scratch match against the Saints. Very postive about Lachie Hunter, then if Damian Barrett is to be believed, some bullishness from contacts at other clubs about Melbourne's chances this year and then Nat Edwards is a bit lukewarm about the first glimpses of the Grundy and Gawn partnership. Nothing super new or controversial, but Lachie Hunter's first outing caught certainly caught the eye of many outside of the die-hard supporters who watched the practice game.

  18. In 2021 v the Dogs we rested Oliver and Salem, Brayshaw was on limited minutes in the VFL match and BBB and Viney were injured. In 2022 v Carl we rested May and Hibberd, in addition to Petty, Rivers and Salem being out injured. I think BBB, Gawn, Lever, May, Oliver, Petracca are all good candidates to skip the Tigers game and given we are meaning to be more conservative this year I'd have no issues with all of them missing. But I'd be a little bit surprised if we went with more than that. Out: BBB, Gawn, Lever, May, Oliver, Petracca In: JVR, Schache, D. Turner, Hibberd, JJ, Woewodin FB: McVee Petty Hibberd HB: Bowey Turner Brayshaw C; Hunter Sparrow Langdon HF: ANB T Mc Harmes FF: Chandler JVR Spargo Foll: Grundy Viney Pickett Int: JJ Schache Rivers Woey

  19. Hawk the Demon's motives for raising this issue might be questioned, but the specific questions he has asked are not unreasonable. Nor are they particularly important. Morgan Stanley might have been selected because they provided the best proposal to the club's request for expressions of interest from potential fund managers. The $10 million from Leighoak may have been earmarked for a different purpose. I don't see what the problem is with the investment strategy not being ready by November 2022. It's not like the money would be sitting idle. I'd rather take the time to get it right. All the above might be wrong answers, but unless someone's embezzled the Leighoak proceeds and the club isn't aware of it, I doubt whether any other answer would change people's perceptions about the Board's actions.

  20. The only adjustment I am interested in is having the MRP make consistent decisions, regardless of who the player is or what club they play for.... AKA don't let a big name player off the hook but give Chandler 3 weeks ban for the exact same action.

  22. Interesting that in recent years we take the first practice match more seriously than the second one in terms of selection and on field results. In 2021 we rested half a dozen best 22 players in the second game to the Dogs and last year we didn't bring much intensity and let Carlton waltz all over us in the midfield in that second game of the 2022 pre season. Can't really argue with this preparation given we've got a combined 19-1 record for the first 10 rounds of 2021 and 2022. We need to his the ground running into round 1 as we have the Dogs, Brisbane and Sydney to start the season.

  23. More chat about Lachie Hunter today (28/02/2023) at 11:10 to 13:50. According to Josh Gabelich, Hunter had lost the trust of the Bulldogs playing group and there was some reluctance from the Melbourne "senior leaders" (not sure if that means players, coaches or admin) to get him to the club. The first half of the podcast was about the ticking time bomb Alastair Clarkson and whether Todd Viney will be able to keep him in check. It's going to be an interesting watch this year #getyourpopcorn. https://www.afl.com.au/podcasts/afl-daily https://open.spotify.com/show/3towZDryHPGHbgF2viXRwi

  28. I spoke with someone over the weekend who is well educated in AFL projects such as our challenges. They believed the new facility at AAMI cap park was looking good until fully quoted and Government then baulked due to cost. It was well above plan. same person a huge fan on Caulfield Racecourse for us.

  34. Hunter is too good a player for the Dogs to give up for basically nothing, unless there was more going on behind the scenes. We would be kidding ourselves if we didn't think there is an element of risk involved with him, but given the relatively low price, the reward could be extremely high. Like Stangle, a new environment and a kick up the behind might be just what Hunter needed. I think our leadership both on and off the field is much stronger than the Dogs, and I also think Goodwin would be a better mentor for someone going through it than Bevo. If he can keep himself focused and out of trouble, he would be a better acquisition for us than Grundy IMO. Like Langdon, he will completely change how we play and make us that much harder to shut down.

  37. All excellent points. There is another important element - sexual assault and harassment (and of course family violence) is overwhelmingly men perpetrating it against women. And it occurs in the context of the fundamental drivers of sexual harassment and assault (and family violence) - gender inequality and the belief that a man is entitled to exercise power and control. Is there an issue with the power balance here? Maybe, as Steph is the captain. But it is not harassment if her teammate has no issue with Stpeh's behavior. I note that to hopefully avoid the silly whataboutisms that so often come up in such discussions - 'but, but women use violence and sexually harass too!'. Whataboutisms that completely ignore the fact that gender inequality and the belief that a man is entitled to exercise power and control over women and children drive sexual harassment (and family violence). De Goey sexually harassed/assaulted the woman because he felt entitled to (and please, spare me the whataboutisms that the woman in the photo apparently said she was fine with his behaviour).

  39. Sorry, but I don't see the double standards. Firstly, DeGoey has had multiple incidents of disrespectful/abusive behaviour including a charge of sexual assault. Steph Chiocci hasn't. Secondly, De Goey pulled the top down and exposed the nipple of the woman in the nightclub, to which the video shows her clearly pushing it away. Certainly did not look consentual. Same with the changeroom incidents cited which again show there is not a lot of evidence of things being consentual. In this photo nothing is exposed. Is it consentual? Hard to say, as it's a photo. But anyone arguing the De Goey incident was consentual is kidding themselves.

  44. Further to my outrage the following is the relevant clause under the Act which empowers the Trust to charge fees to a major event. (The Kardinia Park Trust Act 2016: "....KARDINIA PARK STADIUM ACT 2016 - SECT 38 Powers in relation to agreements and arrangements The power conferred on the Trust by an event management declaration to enter into agreements or arrangements with an event organiser may include agreements or arrangements relating to— (a) the organisation or conduct of the Kardinia Park event; or (b) the occupation and use by the event organiser of any part of the area to which the declaration applies; or (c) the fees to be charged by the event organiser for entry into the area to which the declaration applies and the payment of fees by the event organiser to the Trust...." Thus the fees are set with no necessary power by the event organiser (AFL in this case - and would they discriminate against Away members. I don't think so) to vary. I suspect the reply will be that the parking fee is set at $15.00 and cats fans receive a discount. If so, then the discounted amount MUST be paid to the Trust by the club, or its a true dicriminatory process for Away team members by the Trust for which they are not empowered. Their opening headline on their Trust website is:...... . WE PROUDLY RUN THIS STATE ASSET ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF VICTORIA. The people of Victoria is a key Crown land principle in the State. I'll seek a repsonse on behalf of the members and fans of 17 other AFL clubs.
