Will be having a rare Melbourne CBD (10th wedding anniversary) stay with my beautiful - MFC converted - wife on Saturday. She only follows the men however, but graciously said I can go. It's so tempting, but as always, I put her before all other women - even those wearing red and blue. I look forward to Demonland reports and the replay Sunday night. *I'm sure I'll have several toilet stops between 3.10 and 5.30pm Saturday 😟6 points

Oh man, I'd be sitting her down to watch a replay of last weekend's game. It was so good. A nice swanky lunch somewhere, then a ride over to Carlton for the game and then tappas and cocktails post match into the evening. You'd have to be on a winner. Happy anni and I hope you manage to squeeze a preliminary final in there somehow @palace4 points

Thanks Brownie and you'd think so, wouldn't you. I watched last week's match standing (I couldn't sit) in front of the TV whilst she did domestic duties around me. I constantly beckoned her to see the many special plays during the match (which she did) and I did hear several 'yes dear' comments, which I took as enthusiasm. Bannon's run even got a 'that WAS good'. She reiterated today that she wouldn't have a problem with me going and she is sincere. It remains a temptation, so maybe the door isn't shut. Needless to say, if it was the GF the SNAG in me would be 🚀3 points

Brisbane need to accept some responsibility on this, surely they should’ve been canvassing the grounds for the potential home grand final weeks ago when they were top of the ladder. Is it the competitions responsibility to be micromanaging the teams on their ground availability?3 points

My god, do you know what this means? He has achieved his final form!!!3 points

I'm interstate next weekend, at a wedding pretty well exactly on game time and on a beach and quite intimate, so little opportunity to sneak a look. I will be pinning the scores on my phone, though! As to the grannie, like everyone else I'm hanging out for city, day (though I presume it'll be Saturday), and time of day. We've got a (rare, dammit) gig on Sunday and the very real need for a practice on the Saturday. Per an earlier post, then, an early Saturday evening at Docklands would be very nice, thank you!2 points

PM sent. It's taken me a number of tries to figure it out and, if my reasoning doesn't add up, I'll be LIVID.2 points

Anywhere is better than Cairns Outside of Brisbane, the Lions have most supporters in Melbourne. There mens team beat us down here, and the women have previously won a granny on the road in Adelaide. They can win away from QLD. I don't think playing the granny here disadvantages them that much. And like you said earlier, why didn't the Lions foresee this and have arrangements in place For the prestige and credibility of the comp the granny has to played in Melbourne. Cairns would be a farcical choice2 points

If we don't trade this pick, i think we just get the best possible player at 13, which might be Jefferson. the only reason people are saying this years draft is shallow is because they have only seen these kids play this year, this is the crop of kids that have been mostly affected by covid and barely played over the past 3 years. Doesn't mean there isn't talent there, in fact there could be a lot of hidden talent, which is where the best talent scouts come into play. keep and eye on the kids that get picked around the 25-40 mark. could be some real diamonds in the rough.2 points

It's King Panos now after kicking the winning goal in the SANFL GF for the mighty Red Legs! (also got best on ground in our previous flag)2 points

Red is in the eye of the beholder once again… Just let me know if we are going to spend any time debating it and I will go out to the garage and get my mallet out and destroy my phone and laptop in preparation.2 points

(NO YOU HAVEN'T. 'LUCI'. INDEED, YOU'VE AGAIN SAVED ME FROM 'THAT' EMBARRASSMENT 😁) YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT ABOUT @spirit of norm smith'S POST. I'LL HOLD THE SINGLE LAUREL WREATH FOR HIM FOR XX HOURS TO ALLOW HIM TIME TO PM ME WITH FURTHER 'EVIDENCE', TO 'CONVINCE' ME. IVE ALSO JUST NOTICED, BY THE WAY, LUCI, YOUR QUALIFICATION FOR A BRIAN TEAM. IT'D BE AN AFLW TEAM, THEN, AND LILY MITHEN WOULD JUST HAVE TO BE CAPTAIN, BUT YOU COULD BE VICE! IT SHOULD HAVE PAID ALREADY, MY SALTING OF CLUES THROUGH THE THREAD, PARTICULARLY THE ONE AT THE VERY START. IT SEEMS TO HAVE FALLEN ON DEAF EARS (NOT AS MANY CRYPTIC CROSSWORDERS ON HERE AS I THOUGHT, THEN...) IVE MENTIONED HIM BEFORE, BUT i SHOULD HAVE GIVEN CREDIT TO THE YEAR ONE PLAYER IN PARTICULAR PUT IN. A TRUE MILLENIAL. (APOLOGIES FOR THE CAPS. MIGHT HAVE TO FIX THAT...)2 points

I think the AFL should call Geelong’s bluff on the whole home final thing. At the moment they’re having their cake and eating it too by complaining about not having a home ground advantage but playing at grounds big enough for all their supporters to attend. Call their bluff, give them a home final at HMBA but set strict limits on tickets 40% allocation for Geelong members, 30% for the opposition, 10% for AFL members, 20% general admin. Watch Geelong beg for an MCG home final when their members realise less than half of them can attend. As to Marvel for the GF now that both the Gabba and Metricon are unavailable it’s a no brainer. Not only is it the only suitable venue left for the GF it also has the advantage of a roof to avoid the shambles in Adelaide today with crazy weather. Brisbane have strong support in Melbourne, if they make it, and at least one Grand Finalist has to be from Melbourne (it better be us). Too bad Brisbane, can’t get a decent ground, you miss out. Plus there’s a history of playing GF’s in Melbourne regardless of contestants in the mens game, let’s bring that into the AFLW as well. Go dees! Thrash those Kangas!!! (I’m slightly worried about this one, they should’ve beaten us at the G earlier in the year, we’re in better form but so are they, this won’t be as easy as some in this thread think). Go Dees!2 points

"...would like to see it squared up to CHF and then kicked to a leading forward...." kicking to a leading forward turned the 2021 GF when we were starting to look done, but hasn't been repeated since.2 points

Look maybe it is going to be either of the two, but what I can tell you is I work on the broadcasting and I’ve been booked for the Sunday without being told anything about the Saturday. So if I was a betting man I’d be leaning towards that being the date.2 points

Thanks for saving me the embarrassment of a self bump, 'Luci' 😁 I'll see if Saturday night imbibing releases anyone from their inhibitions and, if not, unleash in the morning!2 points

i have two passions in my football world 1. watching my team win 2. watching young talent develop their game and hone their skills mfc aflw is giving me both at the moment yeah sure i know there is still a long way to go and everything is far from rosy but it's continually on the up2 points

I’m not a fan, but it is magnitudes better than what he has had going for the last 2 seasons.1 point

On a fairness level, the Showdown should be held that round so that no team is disadvantaged playing against ADL or PtA. But instead, I'm sure they'll try to maximise crowds and have ADL and PtA headlining separate 'blockbuster' double headers, so eg GWS v Freo is the curtain raiser to PtA vs Syd. I guess, as long as they rotate this round each season, the advantages will even out (in theory)?1 point

I'm pretty sure Oliver is a Manchester City fan and is likely influenced by their marquee player Erling Haaland who is sporting the blonde pony tail look.1 point

I saw on Thursday coming home from Work a Hawks supporter with a I think it was 26 consecutive years member sticker. Congrats on 25 years consecutive DeeZone bluddy marvellous effort that.1 point

I have loved footy and our beloved Dees for most of my long life, and I can honesty say that, outside of AFL premierships and a few other extremely memorable occasions, nothing has given me more joy than to watch the ‘growth’ of our AFLW players and game plan over the last seven years. it’s been phenomenal. A flag is almost within touching distance. I promise you, tears will be streaming if / when we can bring it home.1 point

Oooookkkkaaaayyyy, so the women are playing in Carlton on a Saturday arvo. Surely we can sell out that place against another team from the city. Would be disappointing if this great team had less supporters than NM. Get there and be a part of something!1 point

Sensible. Footy 101. The exit from the backline holds good promise, one hopes, for several fwdline variations and entries - and these may well be possible across the ground, flank to flank at we progress towards goal. Too many kicks, however, would stuff up the efforts and not have the desired outcome. SG must think about this - and then make instructions and pathways the responsibilities of nominated and supported players, where possible. Sheeeet, we have enough in the talent pool across the forward line now to make this a real 'goer'.1 point

I'm going to assume you meant this, dl4e, but just in case... Well, certainly not there there! I think there's a side door I can use...1 point

This is what bemuses me is why not take this opportunity to say no team gets a home game here. Port and Adelaide play each other on Thursday night to kick off the “monster magic round”, and then the rest of the round plays itself out with zero home ground advantage. Instead as you say two teams will feel hard done by with copping Port or Adelaide. Again, the single thing that the AFL fail at is fairness.1 point

I’ve only seen very little of this year’s draftees, but I don’t think I’d pick him with any selection and I would be shocked (given how Melbourne play footy) if he was on our list of potential draftees. As a big guy he has some good little guy skills …. but that isn’t the role we’d need him to play. We need big guys with good big guy skills, players who compete in the marking contest and compete in the ruck contest. He’s a small player stuck in a big player’s body. I’m sure someone could take a chance on him …. but it wouldn’t be me. Apparently not Adelaide either.1 point
